V v – Vegetables

This week has brought chilly weather, but that has not stopped our Bugs from enjoying their days to the MAX! We had a jam packed week learning all about The Farm: Fruit and Vegetables! This is a theme close to our hearts at EcoKids as it is everything we stand for and believe in. Healthy kids and healthy food.

Our Bugs had so much fun discussing the different fruits and veggies and we were very surprised at how many different fruits and veggies our Bugs actually know, including the less common ones like Kiwi, Cherries, Cauliflower and Spring Onion. When we asked our Bugs if they enjoyed fruits, we had a very collective YES!!! When we asked if our Bugs enjoyed vegetables… well, not so much! Haha!

We also got to discuss what the differences between fruits and vegetables are. Fruits grow on trees or vines, and veggies grow on or in the ground. As well as that fruits are better to eat raw and veggies are better to eat cooked, although technically you can eat them any way you choose.

For cooking class with Chef Nombuso, we got to make the cutest little caterpillars using a strawberry for thee head, cucumber slices for the body carrot sticks for the legs and green beans for the grass. The Bugs had so much fun assembling their little caterpillars!

For Art this week, the Bugs looked at pictures of different veggies, and coloured in pictures in the same colours that they saw. We then cut out these veggies, sang our “let’s make some soup” song, and stuck the veggies inside our soup bowl.
We also made another art piece this w eek, but have decided to keep it for art expo! Yay!

This week also happened to be our first week of show and tell for the Bugs! Well done to Arlo and Theju on your amazing confidence during your show and tell “presentations”. We loved seeing the awesome goodies you brought with you!

Have a lovely weekend, keep warm and we will see you all next week!

Cooking and Food

This week our theme was cooking, and the Bugs had an absolute blast! We spoke about the importance of washing our hands before preparing food and discussed how to stay safe in the kitchen. The Bugs were very excited to share that they often help Mommy and Daddy when cooking at home, and it was wonderful to see how much they already knew about kitchen safety and cleanliness.

Under The Sea

We mainly focused on educational activities such as cutting, drawing, shapes, colours, and counting. The Bugs also worked hard on following instructions and showed great improvement in their concentration and fine motor skills. In between our lessons, we made sure to enjoy some free play, giving the Bugs time to explore, build friendships, and express themselves creatively.
