Hello lovely parents,

These past two week were an introduction to a new theme – FANTASY AND FAIRYTALES.

What is a Fairytale? A fairytale is often a story which includes magic and has a happy ending.

The children and teachers really enjoyed this theme – it really did bring back some fond childhood memories for us teachers and it was so much fun teaching our class some traditional tales and rhymes – although quite a few of our children already knew so many traditional stories. Some of their favorites include, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears as well as Old Mother Hubbard. And a new one they have never heard of before, Old King Cole. The Crew quite enjoyed learning this new traditional nursery Rhyme.

Because this is a new theme, we decided to really concentrate on story re-telling and acting out. We spoke about different characters found in stories and used some new vocabulary to describe them, we decided that some good words to describe a Princess were; beautiful, caring, kind, pretty whereas some good describing words for a witch were; cruel, cunning, sly, clever, wicked. It was really great to see the children try so hard to think up ways to describe characters and then ask the meaning of some of the less familiar adjectives. Great job Crew!

We have had a very practical week, no worksheets!

We have played memory games using the unifix blocks. I would build a 4 block tower and the Crew had to copy me then I made it harder for them and would build it call out the colour and then hid the blocks and the Crew would have to remember what colour I had used. They did very well in this! What made my teacher heart even more proud was the next day we had the unifix blocks out and the Crew were playing the memory game with each other! How amazing, this just makes me so unbelievably happy!

We are preparing the Crew to work more independently. White boards with markers were put out with letters and numbers. The Crew took turns tracing over a letter board and then a number board. We were super impressed how independently they worked with full number of what to do and take turns doing this activity.

Art expo week has been filled with excited children and teachers! For fantacy we made these colourful and creative masks which we proudly displayed at the art expo and they really stood out on the black background.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Art expo evening! We really hope you got to see, everything still displayed this morning, if you didn’t get to see it on Thursday. Not even loadshedding could dampen the magic of our art expo evening. It was truly spectacular, one of the greatest!

Mid-term break came at the perfect time and was the perfect break to now get us through this last stretch of the year!

We are going straight into assessments if you could only keep your child at home if it is completely necessary, so that we can conduct the most accurate assessments and write the most beautiful reports!

Our next theme is one of our favourites…Under the Sea

It has been amazing to see how much progress the Crew is making. They are now able to follow simple instructions and make their artwork their own, which fills our teacher hearts with so much pride! Their faces lit up with joy when we created our tinfoil and water Easter egg art in the art studio—what a magical experience! These moments are so special, and I’m sure you as parents are just as proud of their achievements.

My House

My House

During our ring time sessions this week, we explored various types of homes—not just for humans, but also the clever abodes that animals and insects create or find. We even went through each room in a house, giving the Crew a clue to guess the room, which tied in perfectly with our activity where they built their own little houses with different rooms. We chatted about a range of homes, from tree houses and apartments to huts, caravans, teepees, and igloos. The Crew impressed us with how much they already knew about the materials needed to build a house—such a clever Crew we have!
