Ii – Insects
What a buzzing week it has been. The Crew loved exploring the fascinating world of insects and bees, and we learned some very interesting facts about bugs and their life cycles.
FunFit Sport with Coach Trevor had the Crew practicing their running skills, and I must say some of our little ones are incredibly fast. Their energy and determination were wonderful to see.
During cooking we had an eye-opening discussion about how different tribes and countries cook with insects such as worms, crickets and even spiders. The children were both fascinated and surprised by how many people around the world include insects in their diets.
Art this week was a real highlight. The Crew completed two pieces so delightful that we will be keeping them for our upcoming art expo. The first was a bug jar where the children coloured in their jars and filled them with different insects. The second was an egg carton caterpillar, which they painted and decorated with legs, eyes and other creative touches. Both projects came out beautifully.
In maths we focused on shapes and number work. The Crew completed a hexagon worksheet as well as a simple addition worksheet. For the addition sums we worked together as a class, counting objects and writing down the answers. This group activity helps prepare them for the more independent work they will encounter next year.
Yoga this week was a sensory adventure. Using their “super-hearing powers,” the children closed their eyes and tried to recognize different sounds played through the speaker. They listened carefully to coins dropping, paper being scrunched, scribbling, bubbles popping, pens clicking, locks opening and water running. We finished the session with the yoga bell and calming breathwork.
We also continued with our Jolly Phonics practice, number recognition, and revision of key skills. As assessments approach, please continue practicing numbers up to 10, colours, shapes and the alphabet at home. This extra support makes a big difference in your child’s confidence.
Well done Crew on another wonderful week of learning and exploring. Have a fantastic weekend.
