This is always one of our favourite themes! There’s something so special about seeing the Crew’s adorable drawings of their families and hearing the sweet stories that go along with them.
One of the key lessons we focused on this week was that every family is different and unique. We had a fun discussion about what makes someone a granny or grandpa, and the class confidently answered, “When you get old!” To help illustrate the different family relationships, we drew a family tree on the board and showed how families branch out to include uncles, aunties, and cousins.
Arts & Creativity:
🎨 For our first artwork, the Crew created beautiful stick frames and drew portraits of their families. They turned out BEAUTIFULLY! (Sorry, parents—these masterpieces are being saved for our annual art expo!)
🖼️ For our second artwork, each child looked into a mirror and drew a self-portrait. These turned out too adorable not to save for the expo as well!
Exploring Colour:
This week’s colour was PURPLE! The Crew paired up and mixed red and blue together, watching in amazement as their new colour appeared. Their little faces lighting up never gets old—it’s always such a magical moment!
Music & Movement:
This week, we explored different musical instruments and their unique sounds. We also introduced the Crew to different musical genres like rock, classical, and jazz. To help them feel the music, we did a fun activity where each child received a blank sheet of paper. As I played a song, they had to draw lines to represent how the music made them feel. It was so interesting to see the variety of responses! Rock ‘n’ Roll seemed to be the class favourite!
Fun Fit Sports:
The Crew had a blast practicing their throwing and catching skills! They took turns tossing small plastic balls through a hula hoop held by a friend and then swapped roles. Teamwork and hand-eye coordination in action!
Fine Motor Fun:
To strengthen those tiny muscles, the Crew used earbuds dipped in paint to trace numbers 1–10 before trying to write them on their own. Their little concentrating faces were just too cute! We also did a name tracing and writing activity using pastels—yes, it was a messy one, but totally worth the joy on their faces!
Math Concepts:
This week, we introduced the ideas of shorter than, taller than, and equal to. The Crew had so much fun measuring each other and then drawing their friends who were taller or shorter than them in their workbooks. Hands-on learning at its best!
Yoga Time!
This week’s yoga session was all about partner poses, focusing on teamwork, balance, and core strength. The Crew also practiced their Sun Salutation, a flowing sequence of six poses. What a wonderful way to build both strength and mindfulness! – Love, Teacher Nicole.
I am so incredibly proud of how much the Crew is learning and growing! Keep up the amazing work, little ones!
