Welcome back to the second half of the second term. We hope you all had a restful, happy break and are ready for everything the rest of the term has in store. 

Do you have green skin? Do you shed the skin you’re in? Can you change colour, too? Turn from green to red to blue. Do you live among the trees, blending in with sticks and leaves? Then you are a chameleon!  

It was a super busy week and the Crew did so well. For art, we decided it would be a great idea for the children to make their own reptile booklets. We showed them various pictures of reptiles, and they were instructed to draw an outline in black before colouring in their own versions. The results were beautiful, and we’ll be keeping them for our upcoming Art Expo. 

We also created an “L for Lollipop” art piece this week which we know you’ll love. Another hands-on activity took place in the sandpit where the children were asked to copy a picture using only their fingers in the sand, which gave them a fantastic fine motor challenge. 

To revise our numbers, we used playdough in a multi-step activity. The children formed numbers out of playdough, traced the number name and digit, added a playdough dot on their chosen number from a group, and finally matched the correct number of playdough balls into a table of blocks. It was a fun and effective way to reinforce number concepts. 

During ring-time, we spoke about all the characteristics that make a reptile a reptile. We learned that reptiles are cold-blooded, which means they need the sun to help keep them warm. They lay eggs, have scaly skin, and many can shed their skin as they grow. The Crew were fascinated to learn that some reptiles can even be kept as pets, though they need lots of care and attention to stay healthy. 

We also watched a few videos about reptiles to help bring the learning to life. The visuals and facts really helped cement the concepts discussed earlier in the week. 

To continue reinforcing our letter learning, we’ve been singing along to Jolly Phonics and focusing on both identifying the letter names and the sounds they make. The Crew are making such great progress with this foundational skill. 

Concert practice is progressing very well. The Crew are enthusiastic and determined, and many already know all the words to their songs. We’ve started practicing on stage to get comfortable with our choreography, and the excitement is definitely building. We can’t wait to showcase what we’ve been working on. 

Yoga was a highlight again this week. Our session included patting the body from toes to head to stimulate the lymphatic system. We danced and stretched to the song “The Jungle Yoga Freeze” and used fun animal poses like lion, tiger, cat, dog, snake, eagle, and crocodile. We ended off our session with balloon breath and some peaceful quiet time. 

Letter Challenge resumes this week with the letters O and P. Please continue practicing at home. Learning letters is so important in helping your child build confidence in both writing and reading.
