This week our theme was South Africa. This is always an interesting week to learn about, we like asking the Crew what special mountain is in Cape Town. The best part of this week has been the theme discussions! Who is the man on our money? And what province do we live in? Who is our president? Many of them think it is still Nelson Mandela heehee! We asked them what our big five animals are, many Crew could answer at least three, well done! It has been really great having these conversations with the Crew!

We explained that our country is South Africa, our province id Gauteng, our city is Johannesburg and our suburb is Benoni. We also spoke about our national bird, which we are so grateful to see almost every day at the pan. Our national flower and our national tree. We spoke about being a rainbow nation with all the different people that live in South Africa and that our flag is the most colourful flag in the world with six colours. We also learnt that our three capitals are Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein. We also tried to sing the national anthem, this is always cute 🙂

The Crew practiced writing their names, many have come so far with this. Well done Crew! We made a beautiful collaborative art piece of the South African flag. We made it out of torn paper and bits of recycled materials. We have put it next to our rainbow to represent the ‘rainbow nation.’ We are all feeling a little less patriotic at the moment, load shedding and all, but it is nice to remember the beautiful things about the place we live in.

We have had an incredibly busy week doing concert practice. It only comes around once a year so we surrender to the busyness of it all and enjoy the process 🙂 We hope you love the concert; the kids have put in a lot of hard work. See you on Saturday!

Autumn, Birds, Migration and Easter

It has been amazing to see how much progress the Crew is making. They are now able to follow simple instructions and make their artwork their own, which fills our teacher hearts with so much pride! Their faces lit up with joy when we created our tinfoil and water Easter egg art in the art studio—what a magical experience! These moments are so special, and I’m sure you as parents are just as proud of their achievements.

My House

My House

During our ring time sessions this week, we explored various types of homes—not just for humans, but also the clever abodes that animals and insects create or find. We even went through each room in a house, giving the Crew a clue to guess the room, which tied in perfectly with our activity where they built their own little houses with different rooms. We chatted about a range of homes, from tree houses and apartments to huts, caravans, teepees, and igloos. The Crew impressed us with how much they already knew about the materials needed to build a house—such a clever Crew we have!
