Nn – Night

Space is always such an exciting and interesting theme, and there is just so much to explore and expand on. The Crew already had a good understanding of space, and it was lovely to dive deeper into the details together. Our ring times were extra-long this week because there was so much to talk about, and the Crew were full of questions and excitement.

We learnt that the Sun is actually a star and that all the stars we see twinkling in the night sky are really distant suns. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are known as the rocky planets because they have a solid surface, while Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are gas giants, made mostly of gas and liquid. Saturn’s famous rings are made up of rocks, dust and ice. Venus is the hottest planet due to the thick layer of gas surrounding it, trapping in the heat like a blanket. We also learnt that our galaxy is called the Milky Way.

Concert practice is going full steam ahead. Each day the Crew are up on stage, giving it their all and making sure they know their moves and their words. We are incredibly proud of them. We’ve been encouraging them to just have fun, shine bright and enjoy the moment. We can’t wait for you to see how much they’ve grown in confidence.

This week for art, we made colourful rocket ships which turned out beautifully. These are being kept for our Art Expo and we’re sure you’re going to love them. We also coloured in some space-themed sheets and did a rocket sequencing activity where we ordered rockets from biggest to smallest.

To practice number recognition, we played a comet-themed matching activity, which the Crew really enjoyed. We also focused on name tracing and name writing to strengthen those fine motor skills. It’s been such a joy to watch how confidently the Crew are starting to write their names independently.

In celebration of Mandela Day on Friday, we spoke about who Nelson Mandela was and why he is so important to South Africa. The Crew made beautiful Ndebele Huts inspired by traditional patterns and colours. It was a lovely way to honour the day and talk about kindness, leadership and unity.

During music, we learnt the Planets of the Solar System song which helped us remember the order of the planets.

This week’s FunFit Sport session with Coach Trevor was all about soccer. The children practiced dribbling the ball, weaving between cones, and aiming for the goal. The encouragement they gave one another was heartwarming and so sweet to witness.

Yoga with the Curious Crew was a gentle and grounding session. We focused on spinal twists to help with flexibility and mobility. Our yoga sequence this week followed our “Space Rocket Yoga” song. We ended with five rounds of butterfly, pufferfish and candle breathing to help center ourselves.

Overall, it’s been a truly wonderful week. The Crew are thriving, and the excitement is building as we count down to concert day. Just one week to go!

Next week’s theme: Dinosaurs

May your weekend be out of this world!

We were lucky enough to have three days of incredible pet demos, and what an experience it was! The children saw everything from hedgehogs to chameleons to the furriest, fluffiest dogs. There were lots of “oohs” and “aahs” and very curious little faces.
