What busy week learning all about frogs and ponds.

The Happy Hoppers enjoyed listening to sounds of ponds at night and trying to identify the creatures. They even learned that the African bullfrog is an endangered species. How lucky are we to go to school right next to one of South Africa’s bullfrog conservation wetlands? Our “big word” this week was Amphibian, and our Hoppers are doing quite well with this word. We also went through the life cycle of the frog! What an amazing transformation these creatures go through.

Have you ever seen a pond? A pond is a small body of water where many animals live. One of the most exciting animals you can find there is the frog!

Frogs are amazing creatures. They start their life as tiny eggs in the water. Then, they hatch into little wiggly tadpoles. Tadpoles don’t look like frogs yet—they have tails and swim like fish. As they grow, they slowly change: they grow legs, their tails get shorter, and finally, they become hopping frogs!

Frogs love ponds because they need water to keep their skin wet and cool. They sit on lily pads, leap into the water, and croak with their loud “ribbit” sounds. If you listen closely near a pond, you might hear a frog singing to its friends.

Ponds are also home to many other creatures, like dragonflies, ducks, fish, and turtles. Frogs help keep the pond clean by eating bugs, which makes them very important helpers.

Next time you see a pond, look carefully—you might spot a frog jumping or a tadpole swimming. Frogs remind us how wonderful nature is, and how tiny animals can grow and change in amazing ways!

We concentrated on our Hoppers cutting skills this week as well as placement of drawings. It’s amazing how much they have grown since the beginning of the year. Well done Hoppers. We have started assessments this week, and we are so excited to see all the progress they have made.

For art we made a paper plate frog which looks very cool but we will keep it to show off at our art show.

The Happy Hoppers had a wonderful time visiting the pond next door to our school. We saw the pond and some fish and even a beautiful doh that climbs into the pond. We went on the merry go round and had so much fun.

Health and Hygiene

This week we became health and hygiene heroes 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ We learnt how to take a bath, why brushing our teeth and hair is so important, and how to use the toilet hygienically. The children loved our pretend tooth-brushing activity where we brushed away sneaky germs and plaque, and we sang “This is the way we brush our teeth” with big smiles and wiggly bodies!
