Reptile Fun for Toddlers: Scales, Tails, and Smiles! 🦎

Theme Discussion this week the Happy Hoppers discussed REPTILES.

Reptiles might seem a little scary at first, but for toddlers, they can be a world of wonder! From turtles to geckos, these scaly creatures are fascinating, colourful, and full of surprises. Let’s dive into the fun world of reptiles—made just right for tiny learners!

 What Is a Reptile?

A reptile is a cold-blooded animal with dry, scaly skin. Most reptiles lay eggs and love to soak up the sun to stay warm. Some of the most common reptiles are:

Turtles 🐢

Lizards 🦎

Snakes 🐍

Crocodiles and Alligators 🐊

Reptile Fun Facts for Little Ones

Turtles carry their homes! Their shells protect them like a built-in backpack.

Lizards can lose their tails if they get scared—and grow them back!

Snakes don’t have legs—but they can slither super fast!

Crocodiles have big smiles full of sharp teeth, but they’re not for cuddles!

The Hoppers enjoyed a reptile dance they had to pretend to slither like a snake or crawl like a turtle.

For our art this week the Hoppers did a little project that consisted of roller painting a cardboard green. They then coloured in a picture of a tortoise. They cut it out with lots of help from Teacher C. They had to fold it to make a 2D tortoise. They then placed it onto the cardboard and pasted some dry grass around their tortoise. This looks super cute and I’m very Happy with my precious little Happy Hoppers. This was a great activity to improve their fine motor skills.

Teacher C also took the Hoppers on a beautiful nature walk and we sat under the big tree at Uncle Ryan’s house and read a story about Reptiles.  They had so much fun walking around throwing some leaves in the air and truly just enjoying our beautiful school.

As you probably know we are in full swing with concert practise and we are looking forward to our big day.

Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper

We spoke about the different kinds of trees and went on a nature walk, where the children observed leaves and explored the environment around them. They also placed paper against the bark of trees and drew over it to notice the patterns and textures. The children enjoyed feeling the different textures and collecting leaves, branches and bark.

My Pets

This week we learned about another special topic. All about My Pets. The children started off  this week to a very exciting pet demo where the children had the opportunity to bring their very own pet from home and show their classmates. During ring time we discussed the importance of looking after and caring for our pets.
