Ss – Safety

We’ve had a fun-filled week with this theme and did a lot of role-play… STOP … DROP and ROLL! We utilised the playground to do a fire safety activity where the children would STOP, DROP and ROLL to put out the fire on their clothing.

Outside play is always a lot of fun, where the children get to explore and work on gross motor skills. We incorporated inside and outside play with road safety. We did many role-play activities following the rules of the road, zebra crossing, stopping when you see a stop sign or red light, yield with yellow light and green light to go! Teacher Thandeka was our robot and each child had a turn following the lights of the robot, while the pedestrians used the zebra crossing to look left and right before crossing the road.

For our first artwork, our Happy Hoppers had to exercise their listening and visual skills by following instructions; we did a progressive art marble rolling exercise, which symbolised fire and an “invite to create” a Fire Engine!

Our second artwork was creating a stop sign, our Hoppers had to use their fine motor skills and join dots with a red crayon making a hexagon shape which also made a stop sign, this art piece included our shape, colour, and number of the week.

We did a lot of puzzle-building this week, mom’s and dad’s please encourage your little ones to build more puzzles at home. Puzzles are great for cognitive skills, problem-solving skills, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.

The Hoppers’ concentration skills were put to the test at FunFit Sports. Coach Dave asked the children to make a circle and then attempted to roll a ball through a Hopper’s legs at any given time. The Hoppers had to try and quickly stop the ball! They all did such a great job!

For cooking this week, our Hoppers made traffic light biscuits, the biscuits were dipped in chocolate and the children put yellow, green, and red smarties on them to look like a traffic light. So much fun putting these together and at the end, we had a “sneaky” smartie J

It has been a great week.

Travel and Holidays

The Happy Hoppers used their imagination to go in a Holiday with an aeroplane. We re-enacted how to book our tickets, pack our bags, drive to the airport, and check in with our tickets. Lastly, we had a fun fly around with our arms stretched out wide! It truly was so much fun watching the children emerge themselves into the activity.

Cooking and Food

This week was all about cooking and boy did we have fun! For our first activity we focused on our fine motor skills by threading fresh fruit onto skewers. Our fruit kebabs were enjoyed by all the Happy Hoppers. Next, we had our taste buds dancing by creating our very own Calzones. We used wraps as the base, and the kids could choose their own toppings to put on. There was only one word for them: Yum!
