What an exciting week we had!

We started the week talking about the different shops and what we can buy at the shops. We then went around, and each Hopper told us where Mommy or Daddy liked to shop. We got all different answers… Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Spar, Checkers, the toy shop and even a dress-up shop…Haha!

For our art, we coloured in some money, made coins out of bottle lids and coloured in our names for our very fancy wallets and purses we made with our very own shopping list inside. For the shopping list, the hoppers cut out shop items from newspapers. They did a fantastic job!

Cooking this week was theory-based; we told our hoppers we wanted to bake a cake, and they had to tell us what ingredients to buy at the shop. They all knew the essential ingredients to bake a cake; most wanted vanilla cake, and a few wanted chocolate…yummy!

This is one of our Hoppers’ favourite themes. They could not wait for Thursday to go “shopping”.  This was a great opportunity to show our children the value of money. We had a very busy day, and they thoroughly enjoyed their shopping. When there are so many cool things to “buy”, it can become difficult for a young child to choose. Our Hoppers were told that their “eco money” could only buy 5 items. They therefore had to choose carefully and had to compromise on other items that they may have also wanted. The Hoppers had a successful shopping experience.

We did a lot of shop role-play to prepare ourselves for our shopping experience and Curious Crew’s Market Day on Friday. We learned about different shop names, what we can buy from them, groceries, furniture, and toys. A shop where you can buy meat and poultry is called a butchery, and the person behind the counter is called a Butcher.

For Yoga this week, we did a yoga story called “Going on a Dragon Hunt”. It works as a listening, sequencing, and memory game. We listened to the instructions and then demonstrated all the various poses, actions and breathing in the story. At the end, I asked the kids questions to see what they remembered. Our poses included a tree, boat, bridge, cow, frog, mouse, and lion.

Fun fit sport, coach Trevor did more fun and exciting gross motor assessments with the hoppers, and they are doing well with their gross motor skills.

It has been a great week. We are excited about our Monday outing to the Bird and Monkey Park! J

Our theme for the next week will be: Cooking and food

Have a safe and lovely weekend.

Travel and Holidays

The Happy Hoppers used their imagination to go in a Holiday with an aeroplane. We re-enacted how to book our tickets, pack our bags, drive to the airport, and check in with our tickets. Lastly, we had a fun fly around with our arms stretched out wide! It truly was so much fun watching the children emerge themselves into the activity.

Cooking and Food

This week was all about cooking and boy did we have fun! For our first activity we focused on our fine motor skills by threading fresh fruit onto skewers. Our fruit kebabs were enjoyed by all the Happy Hoppers. Next, we had our taste buds dancing by creating our very own Calzones. We used wraps as the base, and the kids could choose their own toppings to put on. There was only one word for them: Yum!
