Playful Pups Go Shopping! 🛒

This week, our Playful Pups have been busy chatting all about shops and shopping! From grocery stores to toy aisles, they had plenty to say about where they love to go and what they love to buy. Unsurprisingly, when asked what the best part of shopping is, the unanimous answer was—sweeties! 🍬 (We can’t say we blame them!)

A big thank-you to all our wonderful Pup parents for sending in your five novelty items. With your help, we transformed our function room into a bustling little shop on Friday, fully stocked and ready for business! Our excited shoppers each grabbed a trolley, browsed the “aisles,” and carefully selected their five favourite treasures. Once their baskets were full, it was off to the checkout to pay with their very own Ecobucks! 💰

This activity is always a highlight of the year—there’s something so delightful about watching tiny trolleys being pushed with great seriousness and hearing the chatter at the till (“Can I pay now, please?)  Through all the fun, our Pups learned about taking turns, making choices, counting, and of course, how rewarding it feels to “shop” for themselves.

It’s safe to say we’ve got a few future shopkeepers (and expert bargain hunters) in the making! 🛍

Cooking and Food Week with the Playful Pups

This week in the Playful Pups class was all about Cooking and Food, a topic that had everyone’s tummies rumbling from Monday morning!

We started off by chatting about all the delicious foods our Pups love most, and it came as no surprise that pizza, cookies, and sweets were the clear winners. (We did have a few enthusiastic mentions of broccoli … but we suspect those might have been for teacher approval!)

Throughout the week, we explored different foods — where they come from, what makes them healthy, and how they help us grow strong and energetic. The highlight came when we ventured into our school kitchen for a hands-on experience. Armed with safety knives and big smiles, our little chefs chopped up fresh fruit and helped make a healthy smoothie,  which was enjoyed right down to the last drop!

Of course, no week would be complete without a bit of creative fun. For art, our Pups painted and decorated their very own donuts — colourful, sparkly, and wonderfully imaginative. Thankfully, no real sugar rush was involved!

This week also saw Coach Trevor put our Pups through their FunFit assessment, a fun-filled session of movement, balance, and giggles. The results of these will appear in their end-of-year reports, but we can safely say our Pups gave it their all!

To top it all off, we were treated to two yoga sessions with the ever-patient Teacher Nicole. Thursday’s early morning Mommy and Daddy yoga was a special highlight — it was such a joy to see parents and Pups stretching, balancing, and laughing together. What a wonderful way to start the day!

It’s been a week full of fun, food, and a few fruity smoothies — the perfect recipe for happy learning in the Playful Pups class!

What do you think folks ... does pineapple belong on pizza??

🌊 Under the Ocean Adventures with the Playful Pups!

The past two weeks have been quite the whirlwind under the waves! Our Playful Pups have been exploring the mysterious depths of the ocean, discovering fascinating creatures, marvelling at colourful coral reefs, and learning a few          “fin-tastic” facts along the way. From stealthy sharks to clever octopuses, dazzling clownfish (yes, Finding Nemo made an appearance!), and lobsters with their impressive claws — our little ocean explorers have been completely hooked! 🦈🐙🐠

Between watching educational ocean clips and chatting about the wonders of sea life, the children’s imaginations have truly dived deep. Some are now quite convinced they could spot a jellyfish or two if they looked hard enough in the school’s water play tub!

Of course, our Under the Ocean adventures were happening alongside some very big happenings above sea level! These past two weeks have also been all about Art Expo fever adding final touches, painting, gluing, and glittering our way through Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole. The evening was a tremendous success — the creativity, colour, and effort displayed by every class was nothing short of spectacular. Hats off to our incredible teachers, assistants, and little artists who helped bring the magic to life! 🎨🐇💫

And as if that wasn’t enough excitement, we’ve also been busy with end-of-year assessments, preparing for our reports. It’s been a real mixed bag of activity, part ocean adventure, part art show, part paperwork!

We’re all looking forward to a calmer tide next week as we return to our normal rhythm, complete with our much-loved Monday Yoga with Teacher Nicole and FunFit Sports sessions. And of course, we’re gearing up for a very special event on the horizon, our mom’s and dad’s Yoga morning!

From ocean depths to rabbit holes, we’ve certainly been busy, but as always, the Playful Pups have handled it all with big smiles, curious minds, and a whole lot of heart. 💙🌊

Playful Pups in a World of Fantasy and Fun! 🧚‍♂️✨🐾

This week, our Playful Pups stepped right into the magical world of Fantasy! With imaginations running wild and creativity at its peak, our classroom was filled with fairy dust, giggles, and just a little bit of glue and glitter (okay… maybe a lot of glitter!).

We began our week as always with our much-loved Monday morning yoga session with Teacher Nicole. The Pups absolutely adore their time with her, bending, stretching, and balancing their way into the week ahead. It’s amazing how calm little yogis can be… until someone mentions “let’s be wiggly worms!” and then all serenity is joyfully forgotten!

With our annual Art Expo fast approaching on October 24th, our creative engines are in full swing. Paintbrushes have been busy, little hands have been snipping, gluing, and adding those final sparkling touches to our masterpieces. This week, we proudly completed our whimsical Fantasy Wonderland Hedgehogs, each one as unique as the artist who made it! We also sprinkled in a bit of early Christmas magic, beginning on some festive artworks that will soon deck our classroom walls for parents to admire.

Our chats this week were all about imagination, we twirled like fairies, stomped like dragons, and even enjoyed an early morning treat of “mini magical donuts” (which some might call Oatees, but don’t tell the Pups that!). We buzzed like bees, waddled like penguins, growled like lions, and snapped like crocodiles, our classroom was practically a fantasy zoo!

Each day reminded us that childhood is the most magical story of all, one filled with make-believe, laughter, and endless wonder.

As we count down to our Art Expo, we can’t wait to share our enchanted creations with you all. Until then, keep the magic alive at home — perhaps over a few “mini magical donuts” of your own! 🍩💫

Have a MAGICAL weekend!

Mm – Mud

This week our Playful Pups hopped, splashed, and wriggled their way into the wonderful watery world of Frogs, Ponds, Rivers, and Dams. If you heard a few extra ribbits at home, don’t worry – it was probably just the echo of our classroom chorus.

Monday saw us back in the swing of Yoga, where our little yogis began the session with stretches and warm-ups to shake out the weekend wiggles. Inspired by our song of the week, “5 Little Speckled Frogs,” the children eagerly practiced their poses: Frog (of course!), Mountain Table, Snake, Downward Dog, and Tree. Let’s just say the room was equal parts mini gym, pond-side scene, and comedy show. We ended off with calming breathwork and quiet time – perhaps dreaming of lily pads and croaky frog friends.

During morning Ring Time this week, the children learned all about frogs – their watery habitats, their clever long sticky tongues, and their fascinating life cycle from wiggly tadpoles to bouncy frogs. The Pups were wide-eyed as we looked through pictures of frogs in all their colours – from bright green and yellow to some rather exotic shades. Each Ring Time ended, naturally, with our enthusiastic rendition of “5 Little Speckled Frogs” (which by now may be stuck in a few parents’ heads too – apologies!).

The highlight of our week was our very special visit to Uncle George’s Pond. The children were captivated watching the Koi fish swirl and splash as they were being fed. The show, however, was nearly stolen by Uncle George’s playful Boxer dog, who decided that frolicking in the water with the fish was far too good an opportunity to pass up! While we sadly didn’t spot any frogs or tadpoles, the Pups were far from disappointed.

Adding to the excitement, those brave enough climbed aboard the merry-go-round in the garden – squeals of delight rang out as it spun round and round, while the more cautious Pups clapped and cheered their friends on. After all the excitement, we took a slow walk back to school through the “secret gate” (which, of course, made us feel like real explorers!) and arrived back in time for a well-earned lunch.

It’s safe to say our week was filled with frog facts, fun adventures, a little bit of magic, and a whole lot of laughter.

Thank you, parents, for sharing in these moments with us. We love seeing your children’s curiosity and excitement shine through each week. Wishing you all a happy, restful weekend – and perhaps a few frog songs along the way!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ii – Insects

This week the Playful Pups were buzzing with excitement as we explored the world of insects and bees!

Normally, our week kicks off with some calming Monday morning yoga, but this time our mats had to be rolled away to make room for the annual school photos. Monday was all about our class photo — 19 little Pups, a handful of teachers and assistants, and one very patient photographer. Getting everyone to look at the camera, stop fidgeting, and attempt something close to a smile was no small feat. After much wiggling, giggling, and a few “please look this way!” moments, we finally managed to capture the shot. Now we wait eagerly for the results, fingers crossed it looks as perfect as we imagine!

In keeping with our Insects & Bees theme, we took a little walk-in search of some creepy crawlies. Armed with enthusiasm (and a good dose of bravery), the Pups dug around for earthworms. We only managed to find one lonely little worm, but what a superstar it was — admired, poked, and even gently held by the bravest hands. Who knew one worm could cause so much excitement?

Back in the classroom, our creativity bloomed with dot-painted butterflies in bright, beautiful colours. These masterpieces will be proudly displayed at our upcoming Art Expo in October, an event that always promises to be a highlight of the school year.

Wednesday was extra special as we celebrated Heritage Day here in South Africa. To keep the spirit alive, on Friday the Pups will be dressing up in their heritage outfits, and we can’t wait to see the wonderful variety of colours, patterns, and traditions on display.

Thursday brought more camera action with our individual portraits. Getting one toddler to smile on cue is tricky enough — multiply that by 19 and you’ll understand why feathers, tambourines, and some rather silly teacher antics had to come out. Sometimes the smiles flowed easily, other times they required tickles and plenty of clowning around. But we did it! Now we just must wait a couple of weeks to see those little grins immortalised in print.

It’s been a week filled with worms, wings, wide smiles (eventually!), and a whole lot of heritage pride. The Playful Pups are truly buzzing with joy, and we can’t wait for next week’s adventures.

We wanna know folks ... what is your favourite insect?

Pp – Pride

This week in the Playful Pups class we set out on a mini world adventure — no passports needed, just big imaginations and plenty of giggles!

We started our week off with some early morning yoga with Teacher Nicole. There’s nothing quite like watching toddlers attempt a “downward dog” — it’s part exercise, part comedy show, and 100% adorable. Yoga helps little bodies stretch, balance, and breathe, but more importantly, it gives us a few blissful minutes of calm before the day takes off at full speed!

Since our theme was Countries and Cultures, we proudly began at home, right here in South Africa. All week long, we’ve been waving our rainbow-coloured flag, talking about its bright colours, and even noticing its rectangle shape (our shape of the week). The children now know that our flag isn’t just cheerful to look at, it’s also a perfect way to sneak in a mini geometry lesson!

At every opportunity, we’ve also been playing our national anthem, Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika. A few of our Playful Pups now recognize the tune and even attempt to sing along — proof that little voices really do make the sweetest choir.

Of course, no South African week would be complete without some food fun. On Monday, we tucked into boerewors rolls for lunch, because nothing says “local is lekker” quite like boerewors on a bun. We chatted about how much South Africans love to braai, and I’m pretty sure the Pups all agreed that food tastes better when you eat it with friends.

We also kept busy with fine motor fun, using child-friendly tweezers to pick up and sort pom-poms. Who knew something so small could require such big concentration? The Playful Pups rose to the challenge, one pom-pom at a time.

Our FunFit sports sessions with Coach Trevor are always a highlight. This week we focused on the trapeze swing — encouraging the children to swing on their own and then drop gently into the sandpit below. Brave little gymnasts in the making!

We also enjoyed a lively music session with Teacher Ashleigh, which got our toes tapping and our hands clapping. And to crown it all, the highlight of the week had to be our colourful Hat Parade! This year’s theme,  Down the Rabbit Hole, brought Wonderland to life with a rainbow of creative hats. The children wore their creations with pride, and the photos (shared on our class group) are a true feast for the eyes.

It’s been a jam-packed week of learning, laughter, and lots of exploring. We can’t wait to see where our cultural adventures take us.

Tt – Trees

What a week it has been in our Playful Pups class! We are officially back in full swing after starting our 3rd term last week, and this week was our first proper full week of school. And what a busy one it has been!

Our theme for the week was Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper — though to be completely honest, between settling in our five brand-new little Pups and smoothing over a few wobbly drop-offs, we didn’t quite manage to turn into a team of mini-botanists just yet. But let’s call it a “soft start” to the theme (kind of like stretching before a run)  after all, every strong oak tree starts as a tiny acorn, right? 🌳

The real highlight has been watching our class grow, quite literally, with the addition of our new friends. Just like planting new seedlings in a garden, we’ve been carefully nurturing and helping our newest little learners settle into their new surroundings. We’ve had a few morning tears (from children, not teachers… mostly 😉), but they have been short-lived and quickly replaced with smiles, cuddles, and happy playtime.

I have to say, I am incredibly proud of our newbies! They’ve adjusted so beautifully, bravely stepping into a brand-new routine, meeting new friends, and learning that school is a safe, happy place to be. And to our “old faithful’s” — the children who’ve been with us since the beginning of the year, thank you for being so welcoming and setting such a wonderful example. The Playful Pups really are a pack, and it’s been heartwarming to see friendships budding all over again. 🌱

So, while we didn’t exactly master the ins and outs of trees and paper this week, we’ve been busy laying down roots of a different kind: friendship, trust, and confidence. And those are the strongest foundations for any kind of growth.

Next week we’ll dig a little deeper into our theme (and maybe finally talk about why paper doesn’t grow on trees!). But for now, here’s to our brand-new, bigger, happier Playful Pups family.

Enjoy all the photo’s that go with this week’s blog, from classroom playtime, and FunFit sports with Coach Trevor and our newest offering with Teacher Ashleigh doing fine motor skills and  Happy Harmonies ( introduction to music) and some fun Colour matching Pom Pom fine motor skills which they all thoroughly enoyed.

Dinosaur Adventures! 🦕🦖

What a roar-some week we’ve had with our dino-loving Pups! This week’s theme was all about dinosaurs, and the little explorers absolutely stomped into it with excitement.

🦖 Ring Time Roars
During ring time, we talked about what colours dinosaurs might have been—and oh, the ideas the Pups had! From rainbow dinos to glittery green T-Rexes, their imaginations were in full swing. We also made our best dinosaur noises—lots of giggles and ROOOAARRS filled the room!

🎨 Dino Art Fun
For our art activity, the Pups created their very own dinosaurs using paper plates! Each little artist painted their dino green (with a splash of creative flair, of course), and they turned out absolutely dino-mite! 🐾

🧘♀️ Dinosaur Yoga Time
In yoga, we had so much fun stomping, marching, and of course… roaring like dinosaurs! The children loved exploring poses like Warrior 3, Plank, Snake, Tree, and more. We also practiced calming yoga breaths—Butterfly, Baby Dinosaur, Snake, and our favourite: Hot Chocolate breath (complete with pretend marshmallow sniffing ☕️). It was a perfect mix of movement and mindfulness.

🎤 Concert Practice
We’ve also been working hard on our concert, and wow—our little stars are shining so bright! Full steam ahead, and they’re doing AMAZING!

🏖️ Outdoor Dino Discoveries
Week 2 brought even more fun! The pups headed outside for a dino dig in the sand—just like real paleontologists! They loved discovering hidden “fossils” and dino treasures. They also had special time with Teacher Sharon and enjoyed lots of joyful free play with their friends.

It’s been a fun-filled, stompy, creative, and super smiley week with our little dinosaurs! Can’t wait for more adventures next week! 💚🦕✨

This Week’s Space-Themed Adventures 🚀🌌

What an exciting week we’ve had exploring the wonders of outer space! Our theme this week was all about the solar system, and we had so much fun learning about the different planets—their unique features and the colors that make each one special. From the fiery red of Mars to the cool blues of Neptune, the children were fascinated by how diverse our cosmic neighbors are.

For our art project, we got extra creative and made our very own telescopes using recycled toilet rolls. After painting them a deep space black, we added sparkly stickers of stars and planets, turning them into magical space viewers ready for stargazing adventures!

We also worked very hard on preparing for our upcoming concert. The children have been practicing their songs and routines with so much energy and dedication. We’re all incredibly excited and can’t wait to perform for you soon—it’s going to be a show to remember!

We took advantage of the lovely weather and enjoyed an outdoor activity, focusing on balance and coordination. The children had a blast walking across the balancing beams, building not only physical strength but also confidence and focus.

Yoga Time with Playful Pups 🐶🧘♂️

This week during Playful Pups Yoga Time, our focus was on spinal twists. These gentle but effective stretches help to increase spinal mobility and flexibility by encouraging the rotation of the spine. The children really enjoyed discovering how twisting and turning their bodies can make them feel stronger and more limber.

We also introduced a brand new yoga sequence set to our fun and energizing song, “Space Rocket Yoga”. This imaginative flow took us on a journey through space, stretching and posing like astronauts preparing for launch!

To wind down our session, we finished with five rounds of calming breathwork exercises—the butterfly breath, pufferfish breath, and candle breath. These mindful breathing techniques are a favorite among the children and help them relax, focus, and feel grounded after a full day of activity.

This week’s theme was “Fire and Ice” – and the Pups absolutely loved it! 🔥❄️

During ring time, we had so much fun learning about how fire is HOT HOT HOT and ice is COLD COLD COLD! The children were so engaged, and we loved hearing all their clever ideas.

For art, we got creative and made our very own fire paintings! We used paint and placed a piece of plastic over it so the Pups could feel the squishy, slippery texture underneath. It was a fantastic sensory experience – messy, fun, and full of learning!

Our gross motor activity this week took us outdoors to the balancing beams. The Pups showed off their amazing confidence and coordination—walking, balancing, and smiling all the way! It’s so wonderful to see how brave and steady they’ve become.

This week, Teacher Net also finished up all the children’s reports. We are so proud of each and every one of our little stars. 🌟 Watching how much they’ve grown since the beginning of the year—becoming more independent, confident, and curious—has truly warmed our hearts.

Here’s to more fun, learning, and growing together! ❤️
