This week the Playful Pups learnt all about cooking and food. We sat in a circle and spoke about what our favourite things are to eat. There were many answers of apples, bananas and chicken. Clearly we have some healthy Playful Pups in this classroom … hehe!

We spoke about what we use to cook and make food, and how we usually have to use a very hot oven and stove which we must never touch! We made our own sandwiches to have with our scrambled eggs, they all enjoyed buttering their bread very much. We also made our own healthy food plate with fruits, veg, chicken and eggs. We all helped make some delicious jelly which we put in the fridge and waited for it to set so that we could enjoy it after lunch.

Any other free time for activities we had, we spent making some of our Christmas art as our theme next week is Christmas! We are so excited about that and the Pups are talking about it already. Please don’t forget your child’s Christmas box so that we can put all their art and goodies inside it.

I can’t believe next week is the last week of school! I am not ready to say goodbye to these sweet little faces!

Enjoy the pictures from the week, there are some cuties. Have a wonderful weekend.

Who helps out in the kitchen!

I asked the Pups who helps mommy cook dinner?

Emily answered very proudly: “me!” … and then they all joined in!

Hh – Hot

Last week was a quieter week. With lots of absentees and children feeling a little under the weather, we took it easy and just followed the Pups’ lead. In the Playful Pup class, you have to be able to go with the flow and listen to what the children are needing, and sometimes that is many more cuddles and individual attention, lots of free play and giving them the chance to talk to me about what they are feeling. They are all starting to talk beautifully and their vocabulary has grown tremendously. These Pups are now able to talk about how they are feeling and I’m so proud of them as I really try to encourage that here in my classroom.

During ring time we chatted all about holidays and travelling and what they get up to when on holiday. They seemed to get very excited when I mentioned the word holiday! Somehow our conversations lead to our next theme – Christmas. The excitement of Christmas coming is palpable. Such a magical time for them!

We then had Fun Fit sports with Coach Brad who challenged our balance and jumping skills. We also had yoga and even finished with a dance party! The Pups had so much fun.

We went on holiday!

We went on a safari (nature walk) and tried to spot all the birds and animals we could see … we even used our binoculars which we made.

We took a trip to the beach front (sand pit) to collect and look for sea shells.

There are two things children should get from there parents:

Roots

and

Wings!

This week was definitely one of my favourite weeks! Mommy/Daddy and Me Yoga and the Shopping experience. Two events that the Playful Pups really enjoy. Although saying goodbye to them is hard after yoga, they recover quickly, settle down and realise that there is still more to the school day. I loved seeing you interact with your babies and I know your littles really had fun with you! Yoga is a constant in their week and they have grown to really love it and love spending their time with Teacher Nicole who has the best way with them. I’m glad you got to have a little insight into what that looks like!

We started our week with rainy weather forcing us to stay inside and get creative. These Pups love their outside time so much things can get hairy if we stay inside for too long, but they continue to surprise me with their growth and keenness to try something new.

Reports are coming up so this is a perfect opportunity for me to closely observe them and ask them some questions. Spending a few minutes with each of them, one on one, gives them the space to come out of their shells, especially verbally, which is just the best hearing what these little ones have to say and come up with.

We made and coloured in our little wallets for ‘shop shop’ and spoke all about shopping and going to the shops and what they want to buy and what mommy and daddy buy at the shops.

We took a very exciting trip in Principal Anita’s bus up to the preschool EcoShop. They took their bags with their EcoBucks in tow and were so thrilled to go and play on the big playground. I’m so impressed by how all of them hold their own at the preschool and are so confident to be there. We went shopping in pairs. Each Pup got to choose a trolley or basket, the trolley always won! Some were overwhelmed with all the options and didn’t know what to choose, others went in guns blazing and wanted to take it all! As you would all know, trying to explain to a two-year-old that you can only take five items is well, interesting! I’m sure you all can relate when you go shopping – hehe!

They came up to the cashier and unpacked all their goods, gave me their EcoBucks and then went on happily with their packet of chosen goods. Such fun!

The Real Meaning of Christmas!

Please don’t forget that our 12 Days of Christmas initi

ative starts on Monday. Keep an eye out for the daily reminder messages of what to bring. We never really realize how fortunate we are until we see the needs of others. This initiative is an amazing way to help those who need it the most!

Nearly there people….

It is that time of year again, the crazy time where everything just gets busier and chaotic although festive. Let’s stay safe, healthy and push to the end of the year (can’t believe we are nearly there!) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Only 3 short weeks of school left! Don’t forget to look out for the Holiday Club Registration Form coming your way soon!

Holiday Club will run from the 8th till the 17th of December.

Yay! Finally, the blog is back up! I know how many of you love to read it and see what your munchkins have gotten up to during the week. I personally have missed writing this blog as it is always nice to reflect back on the week that we have had and recall all the sweet moments had with these littles. Although sometimes chaotic (hehe!) when working with this age group, there are plenty of smiles and laughs to be had during the day. The things they say and do are just too cute, clever and funny. They are constantly surprising me with what they know!

We have recently had two new little faces join our group for the rest of the year, Sienna and Nehal. The seasoned Playful Pups have been very welcoming!

I find at this time of year they start to challenge everything a little more, that being us teachers, you moms and dads, each other, their own personal limits when playing etc. With the talk of impending change and going to “big school” it is almost like they can sense a shift happening. This can lead to a behaviour change as they are experiencing very big feelings. Change for this age group isn’t easy, yet they adapt so easily as well J

I am looking forward to seeing these little sunshines finish off the year blossoming and growing!

This week we learnt about all the things under the sea. Their favourite thing (can you guess?) is of course the shark! However, we learnt about some new sea creatures too such as star fish, blowfish, sea urchins and our other favourite, the jelly fish!

We made our very own jelly fish out of paper plates and coffee filters. They coloured in their jelly fish coffee filters with washable kokis which we sprayed with water to give a water colour effect.

Sharon brought a beautiful shell collection for them to look at which they loved too!

At yoga we did some breathing exercises with an expanding toy to demonstrate our lungs, they loved this!

Getting So Big!

Things I have noticed since returning for the third term:  Firstly they are suddenly seeming so grown up! Their vocabulary is expanding almost daily and they are showing less interest in the more “baby” aspects of our day. They are outgrowing their environment and I can just see they are so ready for their next adventure at the Main Preschool Campus!

Let’s go to the Seaside!

Only 4 short weeks of school left! Don;t forget to look out for the Holiday Club Registration Form coming your way soon!

Holiday Club will run from the 8th till the 17th of December.

What a wonderful week it has been! The Pups have all been in good spirits and seem like they have had a sudden growth spurt. They all seem as if they have grown so much all of a sudden, not just physically but mentally too! It is so great seeing this age group develop and reach milestones, they really are amazing little people.

This week has been so much warmer which is such a pleasure! You can see that the children are happier outside, and more excited to explore when the temperatures are just that much warmer.

This week we have had loads of fun exploring the theme of outer space. When we chat about all the things about space during ring time you can see their little minds trying to process and understand what I say. After all, outer space and the vastness of our galaxy is even difficult for us adults to comprehend! Travis did say though, that “I want to go there!”. So Nathalie,  you may have a future astronaut on your hands 😉

The art we did this week was so much fun! We used off cuts of wood that were behind the house, painted them black and decorated our own sensory space scene by sticking everything down with ‘podge’. The results are beautiful and we will keep it for our Art Expo. This art activity really challenged their fine motor skills as they used their pincer grip to pick up all the little goodies to add to their art piece. We also painted and even did water painting on the bricks out in the warm sun this week!

Another highlight of this week was the return of yoga! We haven’t had yoga for many weeks due to Teacher Nicole being away. The Pups were so excited to see her back and couldn’t wait to find their mats and get into a downward dog pose .. hehe!

During FunFit sports they focused on hand eye coordination as well as colour learning. The Pups are getting so good at colours. We urge you to test them at home and see how clever they are!

We can’t believe that this is the last official week of the 2nd term! We look forward to starting off our third term with warm weather and healthy happy children!

Have an awesome long weekend.

Love, Teachers.

Moral conscious: Working together

Yippee, the blog is back up and running! And what a fun couple of weeks we have had learning all about dinosaurs. It was also so wonderful to see our class a bit fuller this past week. We missed the sweet faces who were away!

The children have absolutely loved this theme. They have all been so excited and keen to learn all about dinosaurs. Last week we had many discussions all about dinosaurs, what they are, what they eat, how big they are and how they once lived very, very long ago. We have had many ring times where we all stomp and roar around the classroom like a T-Rex. We went on an adventure to find dinosaur eggs and collected as many as we could, we also went looking for fossils. Real little paleontologists … hehe!

It has been wonderful to see their imaginations and excitement while being little discoverers. This week we have focused on the inquiry based approach where we let the children lead and use their imagination to problem solve and create play scenarios in their own minds. We set out a ‘dinorama’ and let them play and uncover fossils and scoop and dump sand. They loved this!

Throughout the week we worked on our art pieces. We made salt dough ‘fossils’, this was a fun activity where the children used their fine motor skills to roll and play with the dough and then make an imprint of the dinosaur toy in the dough. Seeing their faces when the imprint was made was priceless. We made green dinosaurs out of cardboard, paper plates and toilet rolls and decorated them with glitter and used corks to create texture. Such fun!

One of the real hits were our ‘dinosaur feet’. After they were made we all put them on and stomped around like dinosaurs. The room was filled with laughter and ‘roars’!

We look forward to next week as the weather warms up a bit after a very cold few weeks and to hopefully see more of our friends return to school. Have a wonderful weekend!

Lots of love

Teachers.
