Recap

It has been an amazing two weeks of prepping for our annual Art Expo. The Squad was so excited to display their creations and helped us set up for the beautiful evening. Along with this, the kiddies also worked on their Phonics and Mathematics. Here is a breakdown of what we got up to.

Writing and Phonics: The Squad have been shown all their sight words to date, and this will be recapped for the remainder of the year.  We have been focusing on our CVC words and tackled our ‘o’ family words, finally, we wrote sentences using these words. During ring time we went over our letters and the sounds that correspond with them and went through the concept of syllables which they comprehended quite nicely. Well done, Squad!

Maths: We have been counting to and from 30 these past two weeks, along with this they have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. This is important with assessments coming up in the next few weeks. The Squad completed an addition worksheet where they cut out the correct number and pasted it in the corresponding spot. The next worksheet was based on shapes whereby the kiddies traced the shape and then were required to try to draw them independently. We will continue to work through our shapes.

Life Skills: This is a wonderful skill to tackle at a young age – appreciation. We broadened this topic to be appreciative of food, families, teachers, and friends. We also practiced our manners such as letting the girls go first and saying please and thank you. We are proud of how far these kiddies have come this year. For some extra fun, we tasted raw honey, some of the faces the Squad pulled were just too sweet.

Art: We worked on our last two art pieces which were our umbrella fairies and pumpkin scarecrows which were so special. The fairies were made by using sponges, paint, netting, and beads – this activity was completely child-led, and the Squad was allowed to go wild with this one.

Yoga: During Yoga, there was a topic called “Broken Yoga Pose” the same concept as Broken Telephone. The Squad were able to pass the correct message along in all three rounds we did, we finished off with our breathing exercises.

FunFit Sports: At FunFit Sports the Squad were given a challenge, Coach Dave either asked them to kick or throw the ball as far as they could and then the distance was marked indicating where they kicked or threw the ball to. Well done kiddos! They also tried something different. Coach Dave set out a game called statue, stoen and sculptor. The object of the game was for each sculptor to take their stone and make it look like a statue… Coach Dace chose one statue and gave them a specific way to stand, the sculptors would them have to shape their stones (in this case their friends) to look like the statue, they all had tons of fun and laughs!

It has been a great two weeks.
