Writing and Phonics: This week we completed our new set of CVC family words: “at”. The children are getting the hang of sounding these words out using the sound button method. We encourage you to assist your child when completing their weekly homework, it is important for them to sound the letters out one by one and then read the word out. As well as write them out using the cat method independently without tracing. They can do it! Keep it up Squad.

Maths: Our mathematics lesson this week was focused on addition. The Squad had to circle how many items in each group and then add them altogether to get the answer. We also focused on writing the number ‘9’ the correct way around.

Life Skills: “Decision Makers”- This week we recapped over what it means to be a decision maker and how important it is to be able to have an opinion. Often, we are indecisive, and we are too scared to let our voice be heard. We then went on to discuss that we have freedom of speech, and we can say what we feel, and we should not be scared to do so. Making decisions even if they are the wrong ones – help us to grow and learn from those mistakes.

Art: During art this week we drew a still-life, the Squad looked at a fruit basket and the drew the basket at the angle that they viewed the basket. We had a lot of fun with this, and the children tried to be very precise with their fruit. Well done guys!

Afrikaans: For Afrikaans we went over prepositions (voorsetsels), we also went over colours, counting to twenty and body parts.

Cooking & Music: For cooking this week, we peeled our very own sweet potatoes so that we could add them to our chicken nugget dish. How delicious! Music this week was concert based – we are also learning some moves with the songs.

It has been a great week. Assessments are in full swing so please could we ask that your child attend school every day.

See you at Sports Day tomorrow!

Christmas!

Imagine you have a friend who loves playing with blocks, but you love playing with dolls. Being open-minded means you can say, “That’s cool! You like blocks, and I like dolls. Let’s play together and find a way to make it fun for both of us!”

Shops and Shopping

Our Shops and Shopping theme is always a hit! We taught the kids practical skills that blend learning with fun. We covered money basics (identifying coins, understanding “buying” and “change”), practiced social interactions (role-playing shopkeepers/customers), and linked maths to life (counting, sorting items). We encouraged creativity (designing their own “shop”), all while connecting school to the real world. The kiddies had an absolute blast choosing their items and filling their trolleys, it was too cute!

Cooking and Food

The Squad had a blast with the theme cooking and food! They learned about various cooking methods and the importance of proper food handling, especially for foods like pork and chicken, to avoid foodborne illnesses. They made their own pizzas, where they added their own tomato paste, ham, and cheese, and then took this delicious treat home to eat. Well done, Squad!
