These past two weeks have been filled with fun activities alongside assessments. It is important for your child to attend school during these next few weeks. 

Writing and Phonics: The Squad have been introduced to two new word families (“in” and “it”). They are using the Time2Read programme whereby they decode the word in order to sound out each letter. These CVC words assist with reading skills and further enforce letter sounds. We have also been working on our handwriting skills where the children use the CAT method, focusing on keeping the letters in the tummy.  

Mathematics: The Squad have been counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We have been asking the children to write numbers 1-20 and identify numbers 11-20 (double digit). Focusing that the number “1” comes first. Also recognising that they pronounce “teen” and not “ty” as in “thirt(ty)”.  

We have also been focusing on 2D shapes and 3D shapes. Drawing these tricky shapes can be difficult but with practice this does improve.  

Creative Art: We have been working on our beautiful Book of Me. These books are given to you at Graduation. The Squad have been completing little messages about their families and how much they have learned this year.  

We also coloured in some fish and discussed how important they are in the ecosystem. How all the parts of the ocean work hand-in-hand to feed the fishes around them.  

FunFit Sports: This week the Squad took part in the Inter-house athletics at the Primary School. They blew us away with their sporting skills and did us all so proud! Well, done! 

Cooking: This week we discussed the process from fishing to being consumed in our homes. From collecting the fish in nets, to being transported to the factories where they are cleaned and then either frozen or kept fresh for us to eat.
