IB Principle: Risk Takers – We explained to the Squad that being a risk taker is like being a brave adventurer! It means trying new things, even if they might not work out. When you take risks, you learn and grow, and sometimes you discover amazing things about yourself and the world around you. Imagine if you never tried riding a bike or swimming because you were afraid of falling or getting wet? You would miss out on so much fun! Taking risks helps you build confidence, make new friends, and find new passions. It’s okay to make mistakes – that’s how we learn! So, don’t be afraid to take a chance, try something new, and see where it takes you. You might just discover something amazing!

Writing and Phonics: The squad has made fantastic progress over the weeks, focusing on their word families, this week we focused on the ‘ed’ word family. They demonstrated their understanding by matching words to corresponding the pictures, and writing sentences in their workbooks using these words. It’s impressive to see how their handwriting skills have improved, with noticeable advancements in letter formation and finger spacing. They’re also showing a great understanding of word structure such as placing them in the correct part of the “cats”. Keep up the excellent work, squad!

Mathematics: This week the Squad practiced completing addition sums up to 20 on their whiteboards using concrete objects, and we were impressed to see the class grasp the concept so well – they should be proud of themselves! We also practiced counting in multiples of 2, 5, and 10’s. Please continue to reinforce this skill at home.

Creative Art: This week the Squad made their hats for hat parade, we are so impressed by how much effort everyone put into their hat, great work Squad! We have been working on Art Expo pieces and cannot wait for you to see them!

Have a wonderful LONG WEEKEND!

What an interesting week this was!

It is always so important and valuable to learn about different cultures from around the world as you never know when you might get to meet someone from a different culture. South Africa is filled to the brim with so many of its own cultures, as well as cultures from all over the world, and we loved hearing about the different cultures of all of our Bugs.

Our main countries and cultures were: Italy, France, Australia, Germany, The UK and America. We spoke about what food each place is most commonly known for, famous landmarks from these countries and how to say “hello” in all of these places and languages. The Bugs learned, “G’day Mate!”, “Bonjour”, “Ciao”, “Boungiornu”, “Guten Tag”, “Cheers” and “Hi!”.

We also briefly discussed Portuguese, Irish, Afrikaans, Zulu, Muslim, Welsh and many, many more!

We took a different approach this week with regards to creative learning, and instead of doing art pieces, we decided to do cooking instead. We made traditional Fairy Bread from Australia, and “Magwinya” (which are similar to vetkoek) with chicken mayo from Teacher Thandi., and we helped Chef Thembi mke our lunch on Thursday; Alfredo Pasta rom Italy. The kiddies loved exploring the different tastes.

We did however, do some art. We continued to finalize pieces for our Art Expo, as well as start some very cool new ones!

Of course Friday was a special day, as it was HAT PARADE! We were so impressed and proud of the stunning hats that our Bugs made! Well done everyone! We were also so impressed with how brave and confident our Bugs were, walking around the drive way in front of so many people! Well done Bugs!

To teach the children about Heritage Day this week we learnt all about cultures. How lucky we are to live in a country where everyone embraces all our diverse cultures and beautiful country! It was very informative to know all about:

Our national bird: The Blue Crane

Our national animal: The Springbok

Our national tree: The Yellowwood Tree

Our national flower:  The Protea

Our national fish: The Galjoen

The Hoppers enjoyed painting our flag with their fingers. This was a good activity to improve their fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, colour recognition. We are so busy preparing for the art show coming up. The Hoppers are creating the most beautiful pieces to show off on the night!

For yoga the Hop0pers learn all about teamwork. The group flower pose is only possible if everyone can balance, create a circle by holding hands and keep their core strength tight whilst lifting their leg up. The hoppers had so much fun and was able to hold this pose for 15 second. Well done Hoppers.

We would like to wish all our September Hoppers a very Happy Birthday! Bohlale, Iyana, Zayden and Ella, we are so proud of the wonderful kids you have become. Thank you to all the parents for the delicious ice-cream and making the day so special for them.

Wishing everyone a lovely long weekend, enjoy the time with your little ones. Stay warm

See you on Wednesday!

In this eventful week in the Curious Crew class, we started with some art pieces that will go up in our Cow Boys and Indians themed Art Expo. And it couldn’t e going better! These have been fun to make and are coming out better than we could have expected.

We thought it would be super fun for the Crew to mix things up a bit for Show and Tell and explore sharing facts on different countries. Teacher Tegan made a list of countries and numbered them. She then created a digital wheel and each Crew member got to spin the wheel to see what number and country they would have to find facts one. Show and tell this week is going to be so much FUN! And we will be taking videos of the facts presented to the class.

The Crew have loved learning about 3D shapes this year! This week we introduced the shape triangular Prism. Which the Crew coloured in and we stuck them together.

We decided to do a little shape worksheet this week, the Crew had to match a few different pictures with different shapes. For example a kite looks like a diamond and a bird house looks like a pentagon. The Crew did quite well with this activity well done our Clever Crew!

Again this week we have paid very close attention to the alphabet! Whenever we sit down for ringtime I ask the Crew what is the most important thing we need to learn in the Curious Crew class? They will answer, the alphabet. I will always explain to the Crew that when we learn about the alphabet in a group setting they are able to learn from each other, sheo paying attention in ringtime is very important.

We played a game where I placed alphabet letters over randomly over the carpet. We went around in a circle and I asked each Crew to pick 2 letters of their choice, they then came up to the front and told the class the 2 letters that they had picked out. They Crew are doing well with recognition, I do however suggest that letters be practiced at home as well. If you are sounding them out, we focus on the SOUND not the name. Forming the letters in your name are important too, please only use small letters and a capital for first letter.

The Crew loving finding words that go with the letter of the week. This is also a great game to play at home, in the car or the shops. Get their little brains working and making it a game just makes them more likely to engage and remember.

We are in full swing of puzzle challenge. GO GO GO! Get your kiddies building. Just a reminder that the puzzle swop in reception is to swop out puzzles. Please if you could bring a puzzle or 2 from home to swop out with the puzzles in reception as we don’t have enough for everyone to have a puzzle.

This week, we had so much fun exploring countries! The Pups learned about the colorful flags from around the world, perfect for their little imaginations.

In art, we created beautiful African necklaces using paper plates, making them just the right size to wear around their necks. They looked adorable!

We also worked hard on our art expo projects to ensure everything is just right for the big day. Everyone is so excited!

During FunFit Sports, the Pups had a blast with gross motor activities, trying to throw balls into a basket. They did an amazing job!

Our Reggio activity was a hit, too! The Pups enjoyed tracing lines, and some got super creative, even making up their own activities—so clever!

And here’s the sweetest news: potty training is going wonderfully! All the Pups are doing such a fantastic job, and soon they’ll be wearing their big kid undies. I’m so proud of them and can hardly believe how quickly they’regrowingup!

Moral conscious theme: Respect different cultures –

We explained to the Squad that we need to treat everyone equally no matter how they look such as clothing, hairstyles, skin colour and other appearances, or even if they do things differently. Do not make jokes about other cultures.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad worked hard on remembering our sight words as well as wrote out a few of their sight words on their white boards. The squad then did a worksheet on the “eg” family, they had to match the correct words with the pictures followed by writing out sentences with the “eg” family words – their handwriting is drastically improving and we are such proud teachers!

Mathematics: The Squad did a worksheet on “Tallying” followed by a graph where they had to count the number of sea animals and colour their graphs accordingly, this is a difficult concept to learn however they impressed us with how determined they were to get it right, good job!

Creative Art: The Squad has been working hard on their art expo pieces, they are very excited for you to see all their artwork as they keep asking to take them home, teehee – so cute!

Curious Crew really enjoyed this theme. They really loved taking part in ring time , learning about the different countries and their cultures. We enjoyed several educational videos too on what the different countries cultures are. We focused on our counting as well as our days of the week , we also repeated our months of the year as well as the seasons.

ART

For Art this week , we made our very own rectangular prisms , we coloured them in and put them together to take home.

We also made a super cool art piece , we drew our own little flags that we got to choose from different african countries , and we got to paste them on the african continent. We decorated this page with different patterns and colours.

We had the best baking Thursday , we made rainbow bread. We used icing sugar with 100s and 1000s … the class loved this and enjoyed every single bite.

FUNFIT SPORTS

This week Coach Trevor put the kids to the test , choosing captains for two teams and the teams had to compete in a very competitive throwing competition. Each team had to see how many tennis balls they could get into the buckets , to get a winning team.

YOGA

Yoga Day for Curious Crew

Doing yoga to our new song “Scaly Little Snake” was super fun. We did snake pose, elephant, bear, cat, frog, and happy children poses.

We did a few spinal twist poses and finished off listening to dolphin sounds for quiet time

Next weeks theme : Insects and Bees

We had so much fun discussing the different countries and cultures this week. We had a look at other flags and all their different colours. Our week was mainly discussion-based. Every day, we asked a few children for the name of a country… we got some exciting country names, including Benoni a few time!

We made a class poster for our art with all the Hopper’s little handprints. They each got to colour in the handprint beautifully and we discussed with the children that we are all the same even if we come from different cultures and how we can all make a difference in our beautiful country and worldwide. Multi-culturism means “ALL IN ONE!” We love how our poster came out and will also be displayed at the Art Expo.

We had our famous braai for cooking this week, and I’m sure you all heard about it. They were so excited to braai their wors rolls for lunch, and they went down very well. Nothing beats a delicious boerewors roll.

On Tuesday, for yoga, the children did yoga to a new song, “Scaly Little Snake”. This was so much fun. They did the snake pose, elephant, bear, cat, frog, and happy children poses. Our Hoppers also did a few spinal twist poses and finished off listening to dolphin sounds for quiet time.

We have also been working on our art pieces for the Art Expo. We are so excited for this event to take place and show off all our work. Please remember to purchase your tickets!

Thank you to all our parents for making such beautiful hats for our hat parade on Friday. We had so much fun, and all our hoppers were excited to walk and show off their fabulous hats.

Have a safe and lovely week.

What a lovey week we had with our Pups. We spoke all about different cultures. This is a difficult theme for our little Pups to understand. We discussed that culture includes material goods, the things the people use and produce. Culture is also the belief and values of the people and the ways they think about and understand the world and their own lives. Different countries have different cultures. We told the Pups that different countries speak different languages and eat different foods. When told them we live in South Africa. We read some lovely stories about different countries and then I think they got a better understanding of what we trying to explain to them.

We also had so much fun playing games and playing with water and bubbles. We have also been making our amazing photo frames and cannot wait to show off your children’s AMAZING school photos to you!

We did a lot of painting for the Art Expo that is coming up and our Pups can’t wait to show off their hard work. There was also so much excitement for Friday’s Hat Parade which was totally amazing. We saw so much creativity and hard work that was put into this event. This was truly such an amazing day and so much fun and laughter had by all. To all the parents, thank you so much for all your hard work, love and support.

PLEASE can all the Pups belongings be labelled.

Please follow the drop and go policy.

Good day lovely Parents,

We have had an interesting and fun filled week in the Curious Crew class! Learning about all the different cultures has been so interesting. Shiva could tell us so much about her culture, thank you so much for sharing with us Shiva.

We have put a lot of focus on numbers and letters this week. Please parents if you could do the same. Try think of fun games to play, finding numbers and letters in books or magazines, spot the letter or number, or just bring numbers and letters into general conversation.

We have been very hard at work with expo art. So exciting and again parents, I apologize for keeping every weeks art but we have been making the most beautiful art pieces so why not keep it for this special occasion!

This week the kiddies got to draw and colour in 4 different flags, they had the African continent’s countries to choose from. With only a little help on tricky flags the Crew really enjoyed making different flags and it was so awesome to see that most of them pointed out the South African flag and then drew it. So proud of these kiddies!

This week we say goodbye to Letter Challenge and go full swing into puzzle challenge. GO GO GO! Get your kiddies building!
