IB Principle: Communicators – We explained to the Squad the importance of communicating and expressing how they feel by using their words and that they must try their best to listen actively to others. We also explained that they need to make sure they are using the correct tone of voice and think about what they want to say to others before saying it as their words can sometimes hurt others.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad focused on the “op” family and wrote sentences in their workbooks using the cat method. We are so pleased with how well they are progressing with their handwriting, focusing on finger spacing and placing the letters in the correct part of the “cat”. They also decoded words using sound buttons in their Time2Read books. Great work Squad!

Mathematics: This week for maths the squad tackled subtraction sums up to 20 in their workbooks. Some used the “crossing out” method, while others used their abacuses, showing their individual understanding of the concept. We also practiced counting to 30 and backwards, as well as in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Creative Art: For art this week the kiddies created their own dragons using coloured paper. They folded paper for the body, added colour to the head, decorated the wings and stuck them on which was the perfect touch while developing their fine motor skills!

Music: We are currently practicing graduation songs, and the squad is singing with all their heart. It is a bittersweet time of the year filled with excitement!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Hello lovely parents 🤗

This week we began a magical new theme — Fantasy and Fairytales!

A fairytale is a story filled with imagination and wonder, often with a touch of magic and a happy ending.

The children and teachers absolutely loved diving into this theme. It brought back so many fond childhood memories for us teachers, and it was such a joy sharing traditional tales and nursery rhymes with our class. Many of the children already knew quite a few stories and were so excited to retell their favourites — Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Lion and the Mouse were among the most popular!

Our week was filled with exciting activities and assessments. We practised pencil control, number writing, name writing, and letter formation. The children worked beautifully on their own and showed such confidence in their abilities. I am beyond proud of how much progress they have made this year and it truly fills my teacher heart with joy! 💕

We also did a fun colouring activity featuring a hedgehog and a frog enjoying some fruit. The little ones put so much effort and creativity into their work, and the results were simply adorable!

For art, we created magical keys. We used coffee to stain the paper, giving it an “old-world” look, and next week we’ll be decorating our keys with shiny beads to make them sparkle. ✨

Coach Trevor was unfortunately sick this week, so we did not attend FunFit Sport, but we will be back to our usual routine next week.

🌙 Mind Ninjas Fun! 🌙 – Teacher Avi

Since our theme was fantasy, we used our imaginations to explore the power of the mind’s eye 👁✨. We took a calming journey to the moon — floating, dreaming, and feeling peaceful. It was a beautiful way to begin the day with happy, relaxed minds. 🌝💫

🧘‍♀️ Curious Crew Yoga – Teacher Nicole

This week our focus was on partner poses, learning about teamwork and trust. The children used their balance and core strength to stay steady while supporting one another. We then listened to a wonderful song called “Colour Me Happy” which linked different colours to emotions. We explored feelings such as happy 😊, sad 😞, angry 😡, sleepy 🥱, dreamy 😴, jealous 🤨, loving 🥰, silly 🤪, and brave 💪🏻.

It was a week full of imagination, learning, and joy, a perfect reminder that beauty truly lies within one’s soul. 🌈

Magical Adventures in Fantasy Land! 🧚♀✨

This week, our preschoolers entered the world of fantasy and imagination! From friendly dragons to sparkly fairies, we explored stories and activities that let children dream big and believe in magic.

The children loved creating their own magic wands and fairy crowns, using glitter, colorful paper, and lots of imagination. We also built castles out of blocks and pretended to be kings, queens, knights, and wizards!

During story time, we read tales about brave heroes, kind fairies, and talking animals, which encouraged the children to think creatively and use their words to share their own magical stories.

Fantasy play helps children:

🪄 Develop language and storytelling skills

Oh, how fortunate our little ones are to still explore their wonderful imagination without boundaries! We used this opportunity to create our own Happy Hopper world.

The Hoppers made the most delicious pizza. We even learnt how to pronounce our pastries by the correct name “Palmier.” We used our fine-motor skills to roll out the pastry with a rolling pin. We grated cheese and cut viennas.  The Happy hoppers thoroughly enjoyed their crispy Pizza, and they were finished in the blink of an eye.

Coach Trevor helped us to strengthen our upper bodies by using the monkey bars. Our Happy Hoppers truly are improving their coordination so well.

Happy Hoppers Yoga week: partner poses was our theme. Focusing on working as a team. We had to use our balance and core strength so as not to fall over.

We then listened to a song about colours  and emotions called “colour me happy” which matches each colour with different emotions. We covered the following: happy 😊 sad 😞angry 😡 sleepy 🥱, dreamy 😴 jealousy 🤨, loving 🥰, silly 🤪, and bravery 💪🏻.

Have a wonderful weekend.

This week our theme was fantasy!

We spoke about what “fantasy” means and had a fun discussion about what is real and what is pretend. The Bugs did absolutely amazing — their imaginations were buzzing! 🧚🐉🦄

For art this week, we focused on finishing up our art expo projects. The Bugs worked hard on their photo frames and added the final magical touches to their fantasy characters to get them all ready for the big night! 🌟

I wish I could tell you more… but it’s all top secret 🤫 We can’t wait for you to see their beautiful creations — they’ve poured so much effort, love, and creativity into every piece. It’s truly something you won’t want to miss! 💖

For yoga, our theme was partner poses! 🤸 We focused on teamwork, balance, and using our core strength to make sure we didn’t tumble over. We also listened to a sweet song called “Colour Me Happy,” which taught us how different colours can show different emotions. We explored:

😊 Happy, 😞 Sad, 😡 Angry, 🥱 Sleepy, 😴 Dreamy, 🤨 Jealous, 🥰 Loving, 🤪 Silly, and 💪🏻 Brave!

To end off our week, we had a fun maths activity where the Bugs had to count cube blocks and name the colours they saw. Everyone did such a wonderful job — I’m so proud of each and every oneofthem!🧮🌈

Playful Pups in a World of Fantasy and Fun! 🧚‍♂️✨🐾

This week, our Playful Pups stepped right into the magical world of Fantasy! With imaginations running wild and creativity at its peak, our classroom was filled with fairy dust, giggles, and just a little bit of glue and glitter (okay… maybe a lot of glitter!).

We began our week as always with our much-loved Monday morning yoga session with Teacher Nicole. The Pups absolutely adore their time with her, bending, stretching, and balancing their way into the week ahead. It’s amazing how calm little yogis can be… until someone mentions “let’s be wiggly worms!” and then all serenity is joyfully forgotten!

With our annual Art Expo fast approaching on October 24th, our creative engines are in full swing. Paintbrushes have been busy, little hands have been snipping, gluing, and adding those final sparkling touches to our masterpieces. This week, we proudly completed our whimsical Fantasy Wonderland Hedgehogs, each one as unique as the artist who made it! We also sprinkled in a bit of early Christmas magic, beginning on some festive artworks that will soon deck our classroom walls for parents to admire.

Our chats this week were all about imagination, we twirled like fairies, stomped like dragons, and even enjoyed an early morning treat of “mini magical donuts” (which some might call Oatees, but don’t tell the Pups that!). We buzzed like bees, waddled like penguins, growled like lions, and snapped like crocodiles, our classroom was practically a fantasy zoo!

Each day reminded us that childhood is the most magical story of all, one filled with make-believe, laughter, and endless wonder.

As we count down to our Art Expo, we can’t wait to share our enchanted creations with you all. Until then, keep the magic alive at home — perhaps over a few “mini magical donuts” of your own! 🍩💫

IB Principle: Risk Takers – We explained to the Squad that being a risk taker is like being a brave adventurer! It means trying new things, even if they might not work out. When you take risks, you learn and grow, and sometimes you discover amazing things about yourself and the world around you. Imagine if you never tried riding a bike or swimming because you were afraid of falling or getting wet? You would miss out on so much fun! Taking risks helps you build confidence, make new friends, and find new passions. It’s okay to make mistakes – that’s how we learn! So, don’t be afraid to take a chance, try something new, and see where it takes you. You might just discover something amazing!

Writing and Phonics: This week, the Squad focused on the ‘eg’ and ‘ig’ word families. They demonstrated their understanding by tracing words that end with the ‘ap’ sound, matching words to corresponding pictures, and writing sentences in their workbooks using these words. It’s impressive to see how their handwriting skills have improved, with noticeable advancements in letter formation and finger spacing. They’re also showing a great understanding of word structure such as placing them in the correct part of the “cats”. Keep up the excellent work, squad!

Mathematics: This week we practiced counting in multiples of 2, 5, and 10, as well as counting backwards from 30. Please continue to reinforce this skill at home. We also practiced subtraction and addition sums on the white boards.

Creative Art: We have been working hard on our art pieces for Art Expo! Saddle up and join us for an unforgettable night, we can’t wait for you to see the Squads tremendous efforts they have put into their artwork throughout the year!

The excitement for Art Expo is growing and the school is a buzz with tickets sales, music, costume ideas, dance moves, art pieces and projects left right and center. One of our most spectacular events next week Friday. Just when you think one year can’t be as good as the next it really takes you by surprise I think we have really pulled this one out of the bag!!!

Even though we have been hard at work preparing for our beautiful Art Expo, we got some serious learning done this week in the Curious Crew class.

I have told the Crew many times that learning our alphabet is one of the most important parts of learning in the Curious Crew class. There were 2 different alphabet games we played. Placing letters of the alphabet on the carpet, we went around in the circle and the Crew got to choose 2 letters and come up and tell the class which letters they had chosen. Then on another day we lay the letters down and again going around in the circle, I told each Crew which 2 letters they had to find on the carpet. And I was super impressed with how well the Crew know their letters! It makes me SO proud, we are getting there with our letter recognition. YAY.

Another important activity we did this week was letter formation. Because name writing in one of the first writings our little ones do, we started with correct letter formation of the letters of their names.

During story time this week we have started learning about rhyming words. This has been so much fun to do while reading stories with the Crew and I have told them that this is something they can do with you as parents at home. So what I do is read the sentence putting emphasis on the first rhyming word then I will let them guess the next rhyming word. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well they guess the next word.

Next week’s theme: Art Expo

Oh, how fortunate our little ones are to still explore their wonderful imagination without boundaries! We used this opportunity to create our own Happy Hopper world.

We rowed our pretend boats down a river with a friend and made the most delicious pastries. We even learnt how to pronounce our pastries by the correct name “Palmier.” We used our fine-motor skills to roll out the pastry with a rolling pin. We mixed the cinnamon sugar and even helped to roll the pastry into the well-known shape of The Palmier. The Happy hoppers thoroughly enjoyed their crispy Palmier, and they were finished in the blink of an eye.

Coach Trevor helped us to strengthen our upper bodies by using the monkey bars. Our Happy Hoppers truly are improving their coordination so well.

For Yoga, this week was all about Balance. The Hoppers moved from one pose to the next balancing on one leg. Our pose sequence was Mountain, chair, tree, airplane, peacock, prayer pose, tree chair mountain. Flowed by breath work and relaxation whilst listening to a story called “the Enchanted Forest”

What a magical week! We had the most amazing time discussing all things fantasy and fairy-tale!

The topics of our discussions this week were Fairies, Unicorns, Dragons, Pirates and Mermaids. We also discussed traditional fairy-tales and learned that almost all fairy-tales start with the words “Once upon a time…” and end with “and they all lived happily ever after.”

We are so impressed with how much our Busy Bugs actually know about fairy-tales and fantasy creatures and loved hearing their own thoughts and stories about everything we were learning about.

For art this week, we focused fully on getting things ready and beautiful for Art Expo next week.

We also made a stunning dragon using paper plates, and carboard cutouts from a different art piece.

Art Expo is exactly a week away folks! Make sure you get your tickets; it really is a night you will never forget!

And with all of that being said, remember to always let your conscience be your guide, Hakuna Matata, happily ever afters’ do exist, just keep swimming and all it takes to fly is faith, trust… and just a little pixie dust.

This week was truly magical as we dove into our fantasy theme! The Pups’ imaginations soared, and it was a joy to witness how creatively they embraced the activities. We focused primarily on finishing up our Art Expo projects, and I can confidently say that we are beyond excited to showcase all the incredible artwork we’ve been working on throughout the year. The countdown to the big day has officially begun, and the excitement is building!

Our fantasy play was a highlight, where I handed out various props and let the Pups’ imaginations run wild. It was heartwarming to see each of them step into their own little worlds, fully embodying different characters. Their enthusiasm and creativity were contagious, and I couldn’t help but smile watching them explore their roles so confidently.

For art, we created an adorable dragon using paper plates, painting it orange. This piece, along with another project for the Art Expo, truly showcased the Pups’ creativity and dedication. They have worked so hard, and I am incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished!

In FunFit sports, we focused on gross motor skills, climbing the big jungle gym outside. The Pups showed great strength and coordination! Thursday’s Yoga session also helped us stretch and relax after such an active week.

I’m sending lots of well wishes to the Pups who are feeling under the weather—hope you all get better soon and can join us for the final push to the Art Expo!

The Pups and I were busy finishing off some of our art pieces. It has all just been mind blowing to say the very least. The Pups and Teachers have worked very hard planning and preparing for out amazing art show taking place on Friday the 20th of October. This year is going to be a goodie. Please support us and remember to buy your tickets. I’m sure when you see all the challenging work that has gone into the event you will be glad that you joined us to have a blast.

No art will go out this week as I mentioned earlier, we only concentrated on our art pieces. We did however play a lot of fantasy and made-up games which was great for the imagination.

For the next few weeks, we will be concentrating on assessments.

Please may I ask you again to please label all your child’s belongings as there are still many items coming to school that are not labelled.
