Welcome to Smart Squad! We had the best week together and look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

Here is a breakdown of what we got up to this week.

Writing and Phonics: In Grade R we work in a writing book. We decorated the front cover of our books and practiced writing our names in our books. We also spoke about what we got up to over the December holidays. The Squaders traced over the words “My Holiday” and then drew a picture of their fun December break!

Maths: We went over our numbers and played a number recognition game. We then did a colour by number owl picture which will be used for the front cover of our Maths book.  We also traced over the numbers 1-10 in our writing book.

Life Skills: We spoke about our holidays and what we got up to. We also spoke about the theme of the week and went over the classroom rules.  We spoke about why it is important to follow these rules and how these rules can keep us safe.

Creative: Once the children had completed their front covers for their writing and Maths books, we did a self-portrait. We also reflected on our first day of school and did a hanging art piece of: Me, My Finger Prints, My Teachers and My Classroom.

It has been a great week!

See you all next week, have a lovely weekend!

Time flies when you are having fun!

Can you believe that your babies are in Grade R!

One more year of Pre-School Moms and Dads!

Welcome to the Curious Crew class of 2022! Wow what an awesome first week we have had. We have all made it through the first week, yes even you parents! The first couple of weeks can be so hard and emotional as everyone adjusts to all the changes. The kiddies are such troopers and we are so proud of how they have adapted and taken it in their stride.

We kicked off the week with taking the time to get to know each other in the classroom. We learnt some class and school rules that are there to make school a safe and happy place for us all. The children amazed us with their existing knowledge on the alphabet and counting. We coloured in a picture of ‘the first day of school’ – which they did so beautifully.  We made a school bag/briefcase and filled it with the activities that we got up to this week. We did a free drawing, a cover photo of our classroom, and finger dot traced the letter Aa. The Crew practiced their cutting skills by cutting out pictures that took their fancy, and they traced and practiced writing their names, wow we are so impressed with them!

Our days were filled with lots of interactive play, free play and activities, and of course story time which is a firm favourite!

All the children have settled into their new class so well and we look forward to what is to come this year! Let’s have a wonderful year!

Have a great and restful weekend everyone. We look forward to welcoming the Crew on Monday for week two.

A Breath of Fresh Air!

We took the Crew on a nature walk to find bits and bobs for our art project. This was so much fun and the children loved bringing nature back into the classroom.

Welcome to our 2022 Happy Hoppers and Hopper Parents, and a very warm welcome to our new Hoppers: Ariyana, Hazel, Luca, Matthew and Xara and their lovely  parents! We are all so happy that you have joined our amazing EcoFamily and hope that your journey with us will be a memorable one!

We have had such a great first week back at school with the Happy Hoppers. Naturally, the first few weeks are going to be an adjustment for the children to get back into routine, but all of our Hoppers have settled in so comfortably already! Becoming a Hopper is a big step from Busy Bugs and we are so proud of how easily our children have adjusted. Not only are we proud of our kiddies, but we are also so proud of our parents during drop off time. We understand how difficult it is for all our moms and dads to “drop and go”, but you have all done an amazing job! The Hoppers have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know their new friends, playing with their old buddies and getting to know their teachers.

This week our theme was: My School, My Classroom and My Teachers. We have spent this week getting to know each other and getting the children back into the classroom routine after a nice long holiday. Our Hoppers shared what they got up to in their holidays and we also spoke about our school, the name of our school, our classroom rules and what our classroom is called. We are incredibly proud of how well the children listened to their teachers and just loved seeing how eager they all were to ask and answer questions during our Ring Time.

To wrap up our exciting week, the Hoppers made adorable “First Week as a Hopper” apple artworks! They enjoyed creating these because they had the opportunity to get messy by sponge painting paper plates. During this activity, the children learnt that the paper plates were circular for our shape, and red for our colour. We went on a nature walk to collect sticks for the stalks for our apples!

Have a wonderful and restful weekend!

Wakey Wakey!

On the first day of school we jumped straight into an activity, where the kiddies got to ‘wake up’ their tripod grip, and colour in a “First Day of School” picture.

We are learnt about the colour ‘red’ this week and for our art activity we created a “I am special” heart, where we used our fine motor skills to tear pieces of red paper to stick inside our heart.

Welcome to our Busy Bugs class, January 2022! We look forward to spending this year getting to know our new little Bugs and their lovely parents. It has been crazy seeing how much all of the Playful Pups from last year have grown and so much fun meeting our new Bugs. We would also like to introduce us teachers, Teacher Gemma and Teacher Thandi. If you ever have any questions or need to talk, please don’t hesitate to either message us or catch us in the morning or afternoon for a quick chat.

During the Busy Bugs year, your children start being exposed to tougher activities and tasks, and the things they learn will amaze you! One of the exciting new things we do this year is Show and Tell, which will start after midterm break (just to give our Bugs enough time to settle and be more comfortable around each other). Every Friday (or Thursday depending if there is a long weekend) we ask two children to bring a theme related item for show and tell. We start with the top name and bottom name of our class list and work our way to the middle. We will put who the next two children are at the end of every blog, as well as send a message out each week reminding you. If your child is absent on their day, please don’t worry. Just send it the next available day and we will do it then! (Show and Tell is the only exception to the “no toys” rule!)

We would also like to take this opportunity to advise you of a few of our classroom rules:

  • Please don’t forget to label ALL items sent to school. Items such as hats and water bottles are so common and there can be at least three other bottles/hats that are exactly the same throughout the other classrooms on any given day!
  • Please NO TOYS are to be sent to school.
  • Please NO juice allowed in water bottles. This opens them up to sharing and “borrowing” of bottles because juice obviously tastes better than water does!
  • At collection time, please refrain from coming to the classroom door to fetch your child. Please could we ask that you wait on the grass in front of the classroom and we will bring your Bugs out to you.
  • Please try and keep the WhatsApp group clear of “unnecessary” messages. Our WhatsApp group is primarily for us teachers to communicate with parents. If you have any concerns to address, please do so privately to a teacher and not over the WhatsApp group. Please note that during the day we may not be able to reply to messages immediately as we are obviously busy in class.

We hope you have a lovely restful weekend and we will see you all next week!

Tough Love!

We have had the best first week back and look forward to the many more we get to spend with our Bugs! The hard part is almost over folks! Pretty soon your little boy or girl will be waving goodbye without even looking back and you’ll find yourselves being the ones crying happy tears instead of them!

Welcome to the Playful Pups class of 2022!  Wow it’s been a very busy, but fun first week! We are looking forward to the year ahead. It’s always interesting to see how these little people grow and change within one year. Our Playful Pups Teacher is Teacher Cecilia and she is assisted by Teacher Thandy. We are so fortunate to have Thandy from the EcoBabes house as she is already familiar with a lot of our Pups.

Please take note of our classroom rules:

Please label ALL belongings.

Please NO toys to be sent to school.

NO juice in water bottles.

Please make sure your little ones gets enough sleep every night so they can enjoy their school day with their teachers and friends.

Please try keep our WhatsApp group clear of unnecessary messages. Remember, the teachers are busy during the day and may not always respond immediately. Any concerns may be messaged privately. If you have an urgent message, please phone Amy on 084 549 4375.
