This week was all about shopping, something all our Happy Hoppers enjoy!

Shopping is something we all do, and it can be a wonderful learning experience for young children! For preschoolers, shopping isn’t just about buying things — it’s about learning, exploring, and understanding the world around them.

 What Children Learn When Shopping

When children go shopping with parents or caregivers, they are developing many important skills:

Math skills: Counting apples, comparing prices, or talking about money helps children begin to understand numbers and quantities.

Language skills: Talking about items, reading signs, and asking questions build vocabulary and communication.

Social skills: Saying “please” and “thank you,” waiting in line, and interacting with shop workers teach manners

They are so aware of all the logos displayed to them and named them with such confidence. When talking about money, we had a bit of a chuckle as most of them said that their parents only use cards. So adorable!

The Hoppers had so much fun going for their shopping on Thursday. Thank you to all the parents for the wonderful goodies that was sent. They were all so excited to choose and use their wallets that they made.

For art, The Happy Hoppers started on their Christmas crafts. They are all so excited that we are getting closer to the festive season. We are sure that everyone will enjoy their beautiful creations.

FunFit sports was so much fun this week. The Hoppers was true to their name by starting off by doing vertical tyre jumps. The ended their session with a 100m dash. Wow the Happy Hoppers really showcased how fast they run. We are so proud of how much they have progressed this year

For Yoga, this week The Happy Hoppers listened to a yoga story about kindness. How the be kind to each other by saying and doing kind things. We practised a few poses whilst listening to dolphin and ocean sounds. Our poses of the day were: dog, cat, mouse, cow, lion, eagle, butterfly, turtle, and camel.

We are looking forward to our outing on Monday! The Happy Hoppers are going to have so much fun. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

What a fun filled week the Hoppers had! From cooking to a wonderful morning showing off our Yoga skills to our parents. It was such a special day to display how teacher Yoga works with us on a weekly basis.  Thank you to each and every parent who could join us today. It was truly a wonderful morning.

This week was all about cooking and boy did we have fun! Cooking teaches toddlers valuable life skills like math, science, and fine motor skills through activities like measuring and mixing. It also fosters creativity, builds confidence and patience, and encourages healthy eating habits by exposing them to new foods in a positive, hands-on way.

Academic and motor skills

  • Math: Teaches concepts like counting, measuring, and sequencing.
  • Science: Introduces cause and effect, such as how heat changes food, and teaches about ingredients and nutrition.
  • Literacy: Improves language skills through new vocabulary and reading recipes.
  • Fine motor skills: Enhances hand-eye coordination through tasks like stirring, rolling, and spreading.

Social and emotional development

  • Patience: Requires waiting for things to be ready, which builds patience and focus.
  • Following directions: Helps them learn to follow instructions and complete a task from start to finish.
  • Family bonding: Creates positive parent-child interactions and quality family time.
  • Healthy eating: Encourages picky eaters to try new foods because they have a hand in making them.
  • Sensory exploration: Engages all five senses as they see, touch, smell, and taste different ingredients.
  • Food appreciation: Helps them appreciate where food comes from and the effort that goes into preparing it.

For our first activity we melted chocolate and then we put a marshmellow on a stick and dipped it in chocolate and sprinkled some hundred and thousands on them. The Hoppers couldn’t wait to take them home so they ate them at school. Our second activity was also so much fun we made a biscuit racing car. We used a finger biscuit for the body of the car. We then iced the biscuit and stuck on the wheels which used smarties. We used a jelly baby to place on the top for the driver of the car.

We also learnt the difference between a 2D, and 3D shape. It was so interesting watching them explore the rectangular prism and counting the sides. Our “big” word for this week was: dimensional. Most of our Hoppers was able to say this with ease. You all are getting so big now.

For FunFit Sports, Coach Trevor made the kids do races and even ran all the way around the playground. The Happy Hoppers had so much fun doing this activity and showing off how fast they are!

I hope all the parents enjoy their time with their little ones this weekend.

Uu – Under

What a fun two weeks we had learning all about the creatures under the sea. All with a well-deserved break in-between.

The Happy Hoppers were remarkably busy this week with all fine and gross motor activities. They did so well with their pencil control with the fun under the sea matching activity. They loved moving their body to the jelly fish song. For art we made two pieces the first one we made was a fish we used broken CD’s pieces to represent shiny fish scales and then painted the rest of the fish. The second art piece we made a beautiful jelly fish out of a paper plate which we coloured in and for the tentacles we threaded some ribbon.

For yoga, this week Our Under the Sea adventure took us diving to the bottom of the ocean. We got chased by a big shark🦈 but we were able to hide away from him by turning ourselves into various sea animals …. a starfish, fish 🐠, dolphin🐬, whale🐳and a turtle 🐢

Ending off with quiet time and pufferfish🐡 breath

(P.S. can you believe there are no starfish and turtle emojis?) 🤔

FunFit sports this week Coach Trevor continued with Assessments.

We are looking so forward to our amazing art show tonight please remember to join us as its going to be amazing evening.

We are looking forward to our outing on Monday! The Happy Hoppers are going to have so much fun. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Magical Adventures in Fantasy Land! 🧚♀✨

This week, our preschoolers entered the world of fantasy and imagination! From friendly dragons to sparkly fairies, we explored stories and activities that let children dream big and believe in magic.

The children loved creating their own magic wands and fairy crowns, using glitter, colorful paper, and lots of imagination. We also built castles out of blocks and pretended to be kings, queens, knights, and wizards!

During story time, we read tales about brave heroes, kind fairies, and talking animals, which encouraged the children to think creatively and use their words to share their own magical stories.

Fantasy play helps children:

🪄 Develop language and storytelling skills

Oh, how fortunate our little ones are to still explore their wonderful imagination without boundaries! We used this opportunity to create our own Happy Hopper world.

The Hoppers made the most delicious pizza. We even learnt how to pronounce our pastries by the correct name “Palmier.” We used our fine-motor skills to roll out the pastry with a rolling pin. We grated cheese and cut viennas.  The Happy hoppers thoroughly enjoyed their crispy Pizza, and they were finished in the blink of an eye.

Coach Trevor helped us to strengthen our upper bodies by using the monkey bars. Our Happy Hoppers truly are improving their coordination so well.

Happy Hoppers Yoga week: partner poses was our theme. Focusing on working as a team. We had to use our balance and core strength so as not to fall over.

We then listened to a song about colours  and emotions called “colour me happy” which matches each colour with different emotions. We covered the following: happy 😊 sad 😞angry 😡 sleepy 🥱, dreamy 😴 jealousy 🤨, loving 🥰, silly 🤪, and bravery 💪🏻.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Ii – Insects

This week, we learnt all about insects – the tiny creatures that crawl, fly, and buzz all around us.

What are insects?

Insects are small animals with 6 legs.

Most have two feelers (called antennae).

Many insects have wings to fly.

They live in gardens, parks, and even in our backyards. Can you spot an insect today? Maybe a butterfly, a ladybug, or even an ant!

Busy Bees

Bees are special insects.

Draw your favourite insect with lots of colours.

Pretend to be a buzzing bee and fly from “flower to flower” in your classroom or garden.

Remember

Insects may be small, but they play an IMPORTANT role in our world. Let us be kind to them and watch them with gentle eyes.

Help flowers grow by carrying pollen (that’s called pollination).

Make honey for us to enjoy.

Live together in a home called a hive. Bees are especially important helpers in nature. Without them, many plants and flowers wouldn’t grow!

The Hoppers went on a nature walk to see if we could spot some insects and boy did, we see so many interesting insects. We go to school in such an amazing place to view all these different insects and bees.

The Hoppers had their photos taken this week and they were all such cutie pies.

For art, this week we worked on two artworks. The first one the Hoppers had to count out 6 bottles lids to make a caterpillar and paste it onto cardboard then draw the eyes, mouth, and legs. The second one we made a beautiful ladybug, but this one is a secret that we will keep for our art show.

We had such a wonderful week. I hope you have an amazing weekend.

We wanna know folks ... what is your favourite insect?

Pp – Pride

Hello there beautiful Happy Hopper Parents.

This week we learnt about a very special place called South Africa.

🐘 Amazing Animals

South Africa is home to some of the world’s most famous animals. You can find lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and even playful penguins! People go on safaris to see these animals in the wild.

🏞 Beautiful Places

South Africa has mountains, beaches, and even deserts. One of the most famous mountains is Table Mountain, which looks like a giant table! Children love to take a cable car ride to the top and see the city below.

🎶 Music and Dancing

In South Africa, people love to sing, dance, and play drums. The music is happy and makes you want to move your feet!

🍞 Yummy Food

Children in South Africa enjoy eating tasty foods like pap (a porridge made from corn), sweet koeksisters (a yummy, syrupy treat), and fresh fruit like oranges and grapes.

We did a little maths graph to see which was their favourite food and for some reason most of them said burgers.

👩👩👧👦 Friendly People

South Africa is sometimes called the Rainbow Nation because people from many different cultures and languages live together. Children learn to say “hello” in different ways, like:

“Sawubona” (Zulu)

“Molo” (Xhosa)

“Hello” (English)

🌟 Fun Fact

Did you know? South Africa has 11 official languages! That’s more than almost any other country in the world.

This has been an amazing and super busy week. We carried on working on our art expo pieces. For our art we worked on our fine motor skills and collaged a picture of the South African flag by tearing and sticking pieces of paper. This is a wonderful skill to strengthen their fine motor muscles.

We sung South African songs including the National Anthem. This was so interesting as some of the Hoppers call our Anthem “the rugby song”

I’m so blessed to be a pre-school teacher listening to all these wonderful stories I hear from our Hoppers.

We hope you have an amazing weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend!

We would like to welcome everyone back after a well deserves break. We look forward to a jam-packed Term 3.

The last two weeks we learnt all about Spring, Plants, Trees Wood and Paper.

The Hoppers enjoyed learning about spring, blossoms and trees. They enjoyed learning that a bud turns into a blossom, which in turn becomes fruit. The importance of trees, and all the amazing things trees can provide us. We observed in our environment what is made from wood.

For art we painted some wooden bases cut from branches that we are going to use to make a toadstool for our amazing art show in October. We went of a nature walk to collect sticks. We made a blossom tree by printing with bubble wrap and used the sticks we collected to finish off this amazing piece of art.

We did some fun baking. The Hoppers made a flower using a Marie biscuit and then they iced it and decorated it with smarties and mints.

The Hoppers had a lovely music lesson where they learnt all about patterns and beats using different mediums. This fun activity offered so many benefits like listening and concentration. Gross and fine motor development and creativity. Music is such a lovely way to express themselves in a fun and playful way.

Please remember our upcoming hat parade with the theme being Alice in wonderland {mad hatters tea party} Please remember these hats will be displayed at our art show in October.

 Happy Hoppers yoga!

Today was all about balance moving from 1 pose to the next balancing only on 1 leg.

Our pose sequence:

Mountain

Tree 🌳

Aeroplane

Peacock 🦚

Prayer pose 🙏

Peacock 🦚

Aeroplane Tree 🌳 Mountain

It is a difficult sequence for the little Hoppers, but they tried their best and did so well. Followed by breathwork and relaxation 😌

Dd – Dinosaur

What a fun two weeks of learning all about dinosaurs!

Dino Time! A Fun Adventure into the World of Dinosaurs!

Hi little explorers!

Are you ready to stomp, roar, and chomp like a dinosaur? Let’s go back in time—waaaay back—to when dinosaurs ruled the Earth!

What Are Dinosaurs?

Dinosaurs were BIG reptiles that lived a long, long time ago—before there were people, cars, or even toys! Some dinosaurs were as tall as buildings, and some were small enough to fit in a bathtub!

Meet Some Dino Friends:

Tyrannosaurus Rex – This dino had tiny arms but a BIG mouth full of sharp teeth. Can you give your loudest ROAR?

Triceratops – He had three horns on his head and a big frill like a crown. What a cool dino!

Brachiosaurus – Sooo tall! He had a super long neck to reach leaves way up high in the trees!

Stegosaurus – This dino had bony plates on his back and a spiky tail. Watch out!

What Did Dinosaurs Eat?

Some dinosaurs liked to munch on plants (like broccoli and leaves!), and others liked to eat meat. Plant-eaters are called herbivores, and meat-eaters are called carnivores. Can you guess which is which?

 Dino Fun at Home!

Draw your favorite dinosaur – Don’t forget the spikes and tails!

Stomp like a dino – March around like a giant dinosaur!

Sing a dino song – Make up a silly tune about dinosaurs!

Dino Fact.

Did you know that paleontologists are scientists who dig up dinosaur bones? They find dino skeletons in the ground and put them back together like puzzles!

We listened to some fun songs with even more information about Dinosaurs. Even our worksheets were dinosaur themed! During these two weeks we concentrated on cutting skills, drawing of shapes, and counting and colouring. We worked on our fine motor skills where we had to do some tearing and sticking. The Hoppers told me this was a big job teacher C. (so funny)

For FunFit Sports this week, Coach Trevor continued improving our hand-eye coordination with catching and batting. Our Happy Hoppers are getting so good with this activity.

Yoga Day

Today was Dinosaur Yoga.

We marched and stomped, roared like a Dinosaur, balanced like an airplane, rolling around in happy baby pose and calmed our breath like a baby Dinosaur.

Ending off with a sequence of a tree, cat, cow, dog, snake poses.

Just one week left of term two, gosh where has the time gone.

Thank you for all the support we got on Concert Day. This was truly well supported in spite of the weather being cold. We still had a blast at our Space Concert.

See you next time, little dino explorers! Keep roaring and discovering!

Nn – Night

Exploring Space what a fun adventure for our Hoppers to learn about.

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and seen the twinkling stars? Space is a big, exciting place full of wonders, and even preschoolers can start exploring it with their imagination!

What Is Space?

Space is everything beyond our planet Earth. It’s where the stars, planets, the Moon, and the Sun live. It’s super big and super quiet—there’s no air in space, so you can’t hear anything!

Meet the Sun

The Sun is a big ball of fire that gives us light and keeps us warm. It’s a star, and it’s very important because it helps plants grow and gives us daytime.

Hello, Moon!

The Moon is Earth’s special friend. Sometimes it looks like a circle, and other times it looks like a slice of banana! The Moon shines at night because it reflects the Sun’s light.

Say Hi to the Planets! There are 8 planets that go around the Sun, just like Earth. Here are a few fun ones:

Mercury – the smallest and closest to the Sun.

Venus – super hot and bright.

Earth – that’s our home!

Mars – the red planet.

Saturn – has beautiful rings!

Astronauts and Rockets

Astronauts are space explorers! They wear cool suits and ride in rockets to visit space. They float because there’s no gravity to hold them down—like flying!

 Fun Space Facts

Stars twinkle in the sky.

Some planets have moons—Jupiter has over 90!

We had a lot of fun with this theme and really tapped into our imagination chatting about space. The Hoppers learnt so much about Space. We did some fun activities like catching a star with tweezers hidden in a basket of beads. This is such a wonderful fine motor activity. We also tried to copy and create our own planets with loose parts; this was great fun.

Our Hoppers love dancing to songs and loved learning the words of the planet song. After we listened to the planet song the children were all hyped up and excited to start their planet artworks project.

We did some toothbrush painting with white paint on black paper and afterwards we coloured in a picture of an astronaut and then cut it out and pasted it on the black paper. We also made a toilet roll space rocket. The Hoppers had so much fun creating and painting their rockets. The Hoppers have a favorite activity now and that is to work at our table with the light. This was fun as we did some important fine motor activities on this table like tracing this week.

We focused on our letter of the week. We read all about Noisy Nick and all the noise he likes to make. The rest of the week we finished off our art and watched some space videos and some astronauts in space, and even a space rocket launch. This was so exciting to watch, and our Hoppers loved it.

For FunFit sports this week, the Hoppers did an obstacle course with Coach Trevor using the jungle gym, they loved this and did so well when they got to the monkey bars. Well done, Hoppers.

Yay for Yoga! Wheels on the bus yoga. Ankle rotations/rolls help improve blood circulation in the ankle and legs. It is also excellent for improving ankle mobility and flexibility. Our various poses included Open leg forward bend. Triangle Pose, Child Pose, Spinal twists and one leg balance poses.

Concert practise is in full swing now and we are super excited for our big day.

Reptile Fun for Toddlers: Scales, Tails, and Smiles! 🦎

Theme Discussion this week the Happy Hoppers discussed REPTILES.

Reptiles might seem a little scary at first, but for toddlers, they can be a world of wonder! From turtles to geckos, these scaly creatures are fascinating, colourful, and full of surprises. Let’s dive into the fun world of reptiles—made just right for tiny learners!

 What Is a Reptile?

A reptile is a cold-blooded animal with dry, scaly skin. Most reptiles lay eggs and love to soak up the sun to stay warm. Some of the most common reptiles are:

Turtles 🐢

Lizards 🦎

Snakes 🐍

Crocodiles and Alligators 🐊

Reptile Fun Facts for Little Ones

Turtles carry their homes! Their shells protect them like a built-in backpack.

Lizards can lose their tails if they get scared—and grow them back!

Snakes don’t have legs—but they can slither super fast!

Crocodiles have big smiles full of sharp teeth, but they’re not for cuddles!

The Hoppers enjoyed a reptile dance they had to pretend to slither like a snake or crawl like a turtle.

For our art this week the Hoppers did a little project that consisted of roller painting a cardboard green. They then coloured in a picture of a tortoise. They cut it out with lots of help from Teacher C. They had to fold it to make a 2D tortoise. They then placed it onto the cardboard and pasted some dry grass around their tortoise. This looks super cute and I’m very Happy with my precious little Happy Hoppers. This was a great activity to improve their fine motor skills.

Teacher C also took the Hoppers on a beautiful nature walk and we sat under the big tree at Uncle Ryan’s house and read a story about Reptiles.  They had so much fun walking around throwing some leaves in the air and truly just enjoying our beautiful school.

As you probably know we are in full swing with concert practise and we are looking forward to our big day.

HAPPY HOPPERS YOGA 🧘

Ww  – Winter

The Happy Hoppers have been working extremely hard this week.

We spoke about Winter temperatures and how cold it can get in Winter. We discussed different clothing we can wear in winter like boots scarfs, gloves, and jackets. We discussed warm foods to eat like soups, stews, and curries. Teacher C told the Hoppers her favourite food is curry. We also spoke about activities we enjoy doing in winter. Some of the Hoppers told us what they like to do in Winter like watching movies. Teacher Cecilia shared some of her favourite things to do in Winter. Its was so much fun sharing our Winter stories and all the things we enjoy doing in Winter.

For art this week the Hoppers made a lovely art piece Teacher Cecilia pre- cut a template of mittens then we painted the Hoppers hands white and made handprints on the mittens we decorated it by putting cotton wool on the edges and added a piece of wool joining one mitten to the other. These look super cute. Great job Hoppers.

We also went on a beautiful nature walk around our school to collect all sorts of objects we used for our ice experiment. We used a plastic cake lid to place objects inside and we place it in the freezer over night and the next day we put it in the sun to watch how it melts. We placed a ribbon in it so we could hang it up and watch the water drip down. We even place a key and looms bands in the water to see how long it takes before these items fell out. This was to demonstrate how cold temperatures can drop in Winter.

We also had some fun on Friday braaing some marshmallows. This was so delicious, and the Hoppers are very aware about Fire and ice after all the activities we experienced this week.

We practised for our concert and I’m sure the Hoppers are going to blow you away on concert day.

Reports are ready and have been sent out.

We have really been working hard and are looking forward to our well-deserved our Mid-term break next week.

Rr – Recycling

This week was all about recycling. This is a huge favourite for our EcoKids as this is what we are all about. Looking after our world is so important. We spoke about what it means to recycle. This isn’t an easy concept for our Hoppers to understand but we are sure they got the just of it by the end of the week. I couldn’t be prouder of the Happy Hoppers, in every ring discussion everyone had something to add about saving the world and throwing away rubbish! They understand the importance of recycling and really enjoy making things to reuse.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! It’s easy to do!

We spoke about the three R’s

Reduce – cutting back on the amount of rubbish we make.

Reuse – Finding a new way to use rubbish so we don’t have to throw it away.

Recycle – Making something new out of rubbish.

We sang lots of recycling songs and they definitely know the words REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

We also practiced counting the number of recycled items in the bin and creating a simple graph. The children are really grasping the concept of more and less, and their number recognition is coming along beautifully.

Our art activity was a huge hit we used cereal boxes to make a shape person. I pre-cut the shapes for the Hoppers, and they pasted it onto their paper. We had so much fun completing this activity.

Teacher C, Portia and Thandeka took the Hoppers on a lovely nature walk to collect all sorts of sticks and pinecones but mostly to check if our school is clean and pick up paper. We also went to look at our lovely recycling station.

This has been such a busy week with our concert practise happening and finalizing assessments.
