Mm – Mommy

This week, was all about MOM! We learned all about mothers and their babies and it was so sweet to see how much our little Bugs know about this topic! They all had lots to say about their own mommies, telling us what they love about you and everything you do for them.

We asked them to tell us all about what a mommy does for her baby. The Bugs know that mommies grow babies “in their tummies” (bless them) and that a mommy gives her baby milk, and keeps them warm and changes smelly nappies! Mommies sing to their babies and bath them, and make them feel better when they are sick! They also make food for their babies and give lots of hugs and kisses! What lucky children!

We also learned that animal babies have special names! A baby cow is called a calf; a baby horse is called a foal. Pigs have piglets and cats have kittens! Dogs have puppies and sheep have lambs. Goats have kids (this was a little confusing – hehe!) Lions and bears have cubs, while wolves and seals have pups. And ALL these mommies look after their babies so nicely and make sure that they have everything they need!

This is why it’s important to make mommies feel special on their one very special day each year called “Mother’s day!”

For a gift this year, our Bugs made stunning jewelry holders from salt dough pinch-pots that they molded, and pieces of bark we found on a nature walk, as well as a beautiful threaded necklace (testing our fine motor skills) to go inside. We also made the cutest cards using the Bugs adorable little feet!

We hope you love these special gifts that your Bugs made for you!

Happy Mother’ Day, all you super moms!

Winter is well and truly upon us, so please make sure you dress your children in layers that can be easily removed. Label everything! If you would like, you may also send a labelled beanie to use at playtime so we can keep those heads warm and the chilly wind out of their ears! May we suggest you start using extra vitamin C or an immune booster so that all our Bugs can hopefully stay germ free this winter!

Welcome back parents, we hope the Squad is well rested after the holidays. This week we focused on recapping, lots of free play and settling in!

Writing and Phonics: This week we did a recap on sight words and played a fun game where the Squad had to go searching for their hidden sight words around the class and then try and read them out once found.

Mathematics: For mathematics this week, we did a recap on counting to 30 and back and practiced counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10s.

Cooking: For our cooking class this week, the Squad made doughnuts for Mother’s Day, they rolled their own dough and then formed a doughnut shape, they watched the doughnuts fry and turn golden brown. Once the doughnuts cooled down, they poured chocolate on top and added sprinkles. They have been so excited to bring these home to their moms! 😀

Creative Art: The Squad wrote down a menu that they are going to treat and pamper their mothers with on Mother’s Day. They then made a beautiful bouquet of flowers art piece where they coloured in, cut out the flowers and pasted them down followed by tracing their own hand and cutting it out to represent them holding the bouquet of flowers. Hehe, they absolutely enjoyed this!

Have a wonderful weekend!

We hope you have a very special Sunday our very special Eco Moms!

Welcome to Term 2 and welcome back from the April holidays! We had a wonderful week back at school and all the Crew were very happy to be back and in the swing of things.

I love our morning ring time sessions, it was lovely to hear what all the Crew got up to on their holiday as well as get some serious learning done in those ring time sessions. This was also about Mommies and their Babies. We went over a few different animals and the names of their babies. Here are a few:

  • Cow and a calf
  • Horse and a foal
  • Duck and a duckling
  • Chicken and a chick
  • Goose and a gosling
  • Donkey and a foal
  • Goat and a kid
  • Dog and a puppy
  • Cat and a kitten
  • Pig and a piglet
  • Kangaroo and a Joey
  • Sheep and a lamb
  • Lion and a cub
  • Rabbit and a bunny

Go over a few of these at home and see how many your child can remember.

This is one of the most special weeks as this Sunday is Mother’s Day and we just love making our special Mother’s Day gift! We know you are going to love it and treasure it forever!

We also did a cute little questionnaire with the Crew on you Mom’s, we apologies for some of the ages but it’s so cute to read their answers. On the front of your card you will find that we combined symmetry and art together, because learning can be artistic too!

This week we recapped and touched on the first 6 letters of our Jolly Phonics letters. We wrote the letters sang the songs of the sounds and played a game where the Crew each had a turn to find each one of those letters amongst all the alphabet letters. By Thursday we did ‘s a t  p i n’ assessment and the Crew did SO well! 97% of the class were able to recognise all 6 letters, how amazing.

Assessments are going to be taking place in the next few weeks. Please do not keep your child at home unless it is completely necessary. We like to make sure each child has a fair chance for a proper assessment and an accurate report.

We did a perceptual worksheet this week with a red arrow to the left and a yellow arrow to the left. Then the Crew had to look at the blank arrows and colour them the correct colour seeing what direction they are and what colour they needed to be.

This week in our music and movement lesson, we added another song to our concert practice and added another verse to a song we were already practicing. Our dancing song with coordinated moves is looking fantastic and the Crew show great energy and enthusiasm. I think we are going to have a lovely concert this year!

At FunFit Sports this week the Crew concentrated on

Yoga is such a favourite in the Curious Crew class! This week it was a yoga refresher after the long holiday. They went through all the yoga poses and breathing exercises. Next week we will start the Winter yoga programme which of course the kiddies are going to enjoy.

Next week’s theme: Farming Vegetables and fruit

We hope you have a very special Sunday our very special Eco Moms!

Welcome back to Term 2. We are looking forward to another term full of learning and lots of fun.

This has been a short but very busy week. We started our first day back just settling in again and talking to our friends that we all had not seen for a few weeks. The stories were endless. We also got to meet our new Happy Hopper, Iyana and her family.

We discussed mommies and their babies. Aren’t moms just so special and absolutely priceless!

We made an incredibly special card for our mommies which included a questionnaire all about mom, some of the answers we received were so cute and some really funny (Enjoy reading it!) We also baked some special biscuits for mom. We hope you enjoy them and have a very special Mother’s Day on Sunday.

This week we also concentrated on a lot of Gross motor activities. We did some catching with a big ball and practiced throwing over arm to each other. We also did some hopping on one foot.

Please remember to label all your child’s belongings, this is very important as we still have a lot of clothing and water bottles that are NOT labelled.

Now that the colder weather is approaching remember to give your little one some extra vitamins.

Have a wonderful weekend.

We hope you have a very special Sunday our very special Eco Moms!

Welcome back to the wonderful world of Term 2!

This week has been all about celebrating the incredible love we have for our mommies and just talking about how special they are for all of us!

It is proven that all these Pups absolutely adore their Mommies, because their faces just light up when they hear the word “Mommy”. Its definitely the cutest thing ever!

For art this week we got crafty in our art sessions, making sweet handprints out of salt dough for our mommies to cherish forever, and oh, the joy of crafting special cards filled with all the love in our little hearts!

This week we’ve been exploring our colours and counting all the way up to number 10! I’m so proud of all of you my Pups!

We also enjoyed our first yoga session for the term and the smiles on those little faces was priceless!

We’ve been practicing this week for our concert coming up, and can I just say that I can’t wait for all of you to see these little people throw out their dance moves!

Welcome back to all of our Hoppers! It is so awesome to see you all again! We were thrilled to see how excited our Hoppers were to be back at school. It has been a very busy short and loud week with all the excitement of seeing friends and teacher’s again.

Our theme this week was Mothers and Babies in celebration of Mother’s Day on Sunday. We hope that you like your card and present! Our Hoppers loved creating these goodies for you, Mommies!

The children’s favourite activity was making their heart shaped snacks! We used our fine motor skills to thread Froot Loops onto pipe cleaners, which they bent into the shape of a heart. The best part about this activity was eating the Froot Loops that were left over!

We also made a sugar body scrub. For this activity we melted coconut oil, added in some Lavender essence and lastly added brown sugar once the oil had cooled a bit. We hope our Hopper mommies feel spoilt, as you most certainly deserve it! (P.S. let the tub soak in warm water to soften).

The chilly Winter mornings have definitely arrived! Start your child on a multivitamin like Crèche Guard (if you haven’t already) to try beat the winter bugs going around. Also, please refer to the Sick Policy and keep children who are ill at home so we can minimize the spread of colds and flu. Label, label, label EVERYTHING! … In winter there are many more items of clothing coming to school and during the day as it warms up, we tend to remove layers and then things get very easily mixed up and sent home with the wrong child.

We look forward to seeing you all at our Sports day tomorrow!

Wow! What an exciting and fun short week we’ve had! During ring time we enjoyed discussing holiday news and awesome experiences of the holidays. We also discussed what Mother’s Day is and the things our mommies do for us.

Writing and Phonics: The Squad worked on sight words such as he, she, look, play, on, no, I, here, is, in, the, me, at, it, we, said, yes. We played a fun game that the Squad really enjoyed. Then we played hang man using their sight words, this was so much fun as everyone was able to identify the words and grasped this quite well. We introduced “sound buttons” where each letter had a dot under it, and when you push the button, you need to say the sound of the letter. We also practiced blending of letters to form words using the “ad family” such as “b-ad”, “s-ad”. Lastly, we completed a worksheet where each learner had to identify what the word is and match it to the picture by drawing a line.

Mathematics: This week we recapped our numbers from 1 to 20 as well as counting in 2’s.

Life Skills: With focusing on our moral conscious theme: Mommy knows best – Respect authority, we spoke about the importance of listening to, not only our moms, but having respect for your parents and that they love and care for you so deeply.

Creative Art: We completed our Mother’s Day art, we made Mother’s Day cards, key rings and beautiful bracelets for our special moms.

We are looking forward to the rest of the term together, we have a busy and eventful one ahead, but we are sure that the Squad are going to continue to blow us away!

Thank you and have a great weekend. See you all at our Sports Day tomorrow. and have a Happy Mother’s Day Smart Squad moms!

Welcome back to school for the second term!

We were so happy to see the Bugs smiling faces on Wednesday morning! The holidays were very long, but we can assure you that all of them are having happy and (mostly) warm and sunny days at school with their friends!

We cannot believe how much the kiddies have grown! A lot of them have come back to school fully potty trained, some of them are talking so much all of a sudden, and they are all listening very well – we sense a general “maturity” increase happened during the holidays as it always does, and we are very proud of them!

We would like to welcome Teacher Nicole to our team. Teacher Nicole is our newest Busy Bugs assistant and she has already become very popular amongst the Bugs. We hope you love every minute with us Teacher Nicole!

This week, was all about MOM! We learnt all about mothers and their babies and it was so sweet to see how much our little Bugs know about this topic!

Mommies sing to their babies and baths them, and makes them feel better when they are sick! They also make food for their babies and give lots of hugs and kisses! What lucky children!

We also learnt that animal babies have special names!

For a gift this year, our Bugs made a beautiful beaded necklaces that they threaded themselves. As well as gorgeous “pinch pot” out of salt dough, which the teachers stuck onto a beautiful piece of bark that the children found on a nature walk this week. This became a stunning jewellery holder. The dough was a little bit hard to pinch, so we did have to help them here and there, but we are so proud of the results your children was able to achieve.

This is a special art piece to remind you that even though clay is sometimes hard to mould and shape, if you persevere and keep at it, you will eventually have something beautiful. In the same way, being a mama is hard – the hardest job you will ever have – but if you keep at it and persevere, you will have a work of art in your child. We hope that you put it somewhere you can look at it daily, and that you keep your special jewellery pieces safe in it.

We are so excited for our Sports Day tomorrow, and look forward to watching the Bugs kick some booty in all of the events!

This has been the most amazing week for so many reasons! We missed our Pups so much over the holiday and it’s just so amazing to have them back!  We are so happy and proud to see them following and remembering our routine after our holiday.

Then, it was Mommy week! The kids LOVED it! All the children had a great time playing mommy or daddy and it was so lovely to see their nurturing natures come out. Children are so naturally gentle and kind! And they know what to do when they see a baby and a pram. It was adorable. Don’t be scared to buy your boy child a doll if he wants one – they are practicing to be great, hands – on dads! We chatted about mommies and what they do for their children, the names of animal mommies and their babies (for example, a dog and a puppy!) and we chatted about where a baby grows, what a baby needs and how to look after a baby.

We made a special present for mom this week. We were out in the sunshine planting a very special plant for mom and made a very special card for mom that we attached to the plant. This was a great sensory activity even though some little bodies weren’t so eager to get their hands dirty.  We also made an amazing lip balm for you moms, out of beeswax, coconut oil and peppermint oil. The children were fascinated with the texture of the beeswax sheets and the distinct smell it has.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable week and it is great to be back. Please, a few reminders in general: Keep nails short, to avoid scratching accidents. The playground looks like a cupboard at the end of playtime as the children strip off layers and just drop them as they warm up. Lazarus then brings us what he thinks is ours based on size but it would really help if everything had a label. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend! Keep warm and get back to us safely on Monday!
