LETTER

Hh – House

During our ring time sessions this week, we explored various types of homes—not just for humans, but also the clever abodes that animals and insects create or find. We even went through each room in a house, giving the Crew a clue to guess the room, which tied in perfectly with our activity where they built their own little houses with different rooms. We chatted about a range of homes, from tree houses and apartments to huts, caravans, teepees, and igloos. The Crew impressed us with how much they already knew about the materials needed to build a house—such a clever Crew we have!

Next, we discussed the various occupations involved in building houses and other structures. The children learned about architects, construction workers, engineers, machine operators, plumbers, electricians, and more. It was a really fun conversation as they discovered that different people excel at different things.

During ring time, we also spent plenty of time on letter recognition, reviewing each letter and the words that begin with it. When practicing at home, please remember to focus on the sound of the letter rather than just its name. We even played a game where I spread all the letters out on the mat and asked each child to fetch a specific one.

Our little houses from the week turned out absolutely adorable, and we’ll be keeping them for our Art Expo. Each project featured different pictures representing various rooms, with the Crew carefully pasting them down, colouring, and drawing additional furniture. The results were simply beautiful!

For the roof of our house project, we took the Crew to the art studio to add some extra decoration. They enjoyed this activity immensely—it was a fun, albeit sticky, experience!

We also completed some engaging worksheets to reinforce our letter, shape, and number of the week. For the letter H, the Crew did a fine motor dot activity using our bingo markers. For the number 8, we practiced counting and traced the numeral to strengthen their hand muscles. Finally, we tackled a crescent worksheet where we discussed the phases of the moon and explained that while a crescent shape is sometimes seen in the moon, it’s not the moon itself.

In Fun Fit Sports, Coach Trevor began working on skills for our upcoming Sports Day. This week, the kiddies tried shot put. It was fascinating to see which of our natural athletes shined through—after all, nurturing a child’s strengths is just as important as addressing their weaknesses.

Yoga this week was all about balance—moving from one pose to the next while balancing on just one leg. Our pose sequence was: Mountain ⛰, Tree 🌳, Aeroplane ✈, Peacock 🦚, Prayer Pose 🙏, then back to Peacock 🦚, Aeroplane ✈, Tree 🌳, and finishing with Mountain ⛰. We wrapped up with calming breathwork and relaxation. – Love, Teacher Nicole
