IB Principle: Caring – We explained how important it is to have respect, compassion and empathy towards the feelings and needs of others.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad received two new sight words, ‘dog” and “cat”. We are impressed with how they are remembering their sight words, their little faces light up each time they realise they can “read”, hehe to cute! – Please keep practicing sight words at home too. They Traced the letters “p”,” q”, and “r” in their workbooks, followed by writing their name using the “cat method”. –  Great work Squad!

Mathematics:  For maths this week the Squad practiced counting from 30 and back as well as completed addition sums up to 10 using the “counting on method”.

Cooking: We are currently working on our cooking activity over the next two weeks, the Squad are excited to complete it and bring it home.

Creative Art: The Squad made their own picture frames made out of a wooden house ucing ice cream sticks and covered them in glitter,  they then drew their family inside, they came out super cute!

Have a wonderful weekend!

This was a jam packed and exciting week.

This week we learnt all about families. We discussed our Families and who lives with us and who is in our family. We spoke about the importance of families and that we get different families, some families are big, and some are small but either way we love them all. We asked the Hoppers the names of their family members some knew them all and others not so sure. Please remind the Hoppers of all their families names.

Over the next few weeks we will be working on our integrated theme art piece, this week our Hoppers painted a triangle with bubble wrap for our shape of the week and coloured in little pictures of their family members. We are so excited to save this 3-week masterpiece for our art show. For cooking this week, we learnt the skill of whisking and stirring. The Hoppers learnt how to whisk eggs. This is a great activity for their basic maths skills by counting eggs and to build language skills. It is also good to build their fine motor muscles.

At FunFit sports we practised a full run through of our Sports Day which will be taking place this Saturday 9th of March. We hope to see you there.

Concert practice is also well on the way, for our music lessons each week we will be learning and practicing concert songs. So much excitement!

It has been a wonderful week.

Our theme next week is: My House

This is one of our favourite themes! I love seeing how the Crew draw their little family members and the stories that go along with the drawings.

One of the most important points that we focused on when doing my family is emphasising that every family is different and unique. We asked the class if anyone knew what makes you a granny and grandpa, the answer was, ‘When you get old’ LOL So we did a little role play with the kids to find out. It was more entertaining for the Crew when we pair up children and said they were getting married… but they understood that only when your child has a child that’s when you become a Grandparents. Teacher Tegan also did a family tree on the board for us to show the class how your family branches out to Uncles, Aunties and cousins.

This week the Crew completed their first maths graph, so exciting and they did SO well! It was a bit of a long worksheet for them to complete and we did have to stop and carry on the next day but it was so great for them to see in a whole how many family members are in each household and to see some are more and some are less. They had to listen carefully to the instructions and concentrate on which number to colour to. I’m very proud of how well they all did in this exercise!

For artwork we did our families a little different… we made shape families. It came out BEAUTIFULLY!!!!! Sorry everyone this one is going to be saved for the art expo.

When it comes to identifying the polygon shapes it can get a little tricky. So we did a worksheet where to identify the Pentagon, Hexagon and Octagon. This was a little tricky as they had to look carefully at which one they were colouring the correct colour. But it’s good to challenge our children and their thinking.

Music and Movement for this week we practiced our concert songs and dance moves as well as war cries for our upcoming Sports Day this Saturday. We can’t wait the Crew are very excited and I’m sure we are going to rock it!

We hope all the Crew enjoyed their little Stop Sign biscuits, because they sure did enjoy decorating them! Us teacher’s couldn’t keep up with, ‘Teacher when is it my turn?’ and ‘Can we eat them now?’ LOL

Fun Fit Sports was a busy one! We did a full run down of all the Sports Day activities, the Crew are well prepared and very excited! I think more excited for all the war cries they will be shouting! Let’s go Curious Crew, let’s go!

Yay-yay for Yoga! In today’s yoga class we focused on our core strengths. We played the bubble popping game whereby each yogi must lie on their tummy in superhero pose and by lifting both arms (and elbows) off the ground, try to reach out to pop the bubbles. This exercise benefits their visual tracking skills, hand/eye coordination, sensory processing skills, as well as all the benefits Tummy-time offers!

Let’s all have a wonderful Sport’s Day tomorrow, we are all super excited!!!

“Families are like fudge, mostly sweet with a few nuts!”

Families come in many different shapes and sizes, and each one is as special as the next. We love all of our Busy Bugs’ families and are proud to be a part of our giant EcoKids Family!

We had so much fun learning about our families this week. We learnt about our mommies and daddies real names, not just “mommy” and “daddy”. We also asked each Bug what they call their other family members like granny, ouma, giagia and so many more! We spoke about extended family like aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as super extended family, which are the friends that become family.

For art this week, we created our family tree, but you are going to have to wait for Art Expo to see these!

We also asked everyone to send in a family photo of themselves for a surprise slideshow for the Bugs. The looks on their faces were priceless as they realized it was them and their family on the screen! As soon as they saw themselves, they would jump up and say, “that’s me!!!!”  It was so cute!

Just a reminder to please trim nails.

We look forward to an awesome Sports Day tomorrow in support of our brave Busy Bug, Kai!

This week just zoomed by like a shooting star! We had a blast talking about families – they’re super special to each and every one of us. Families come in all shapes and sizes, but they’re always filled with love. And oh boy, did we rock out to the finger family song!

In our artsy adventures, we let our creative juices flow! The Pups took charge with some freestyle painting, creating a vibrant backdrop for our family pictures cut out from magazines. It was a real team effort – they painted, stuck, and I snipped out the family fun!

But wait, there’s more! We whipped up another masterpiece for our upcoming art expo. Can’t spill the beans yet, but trust me, it’s going to be a showstopper!

Yoga time with Teacher Nicole was a hit, as always. Her classes are like a magical journey for the kiddos, filled with zen vibes and giggles.

And let’s not forget FunFit sports – our little athletes were in full swing, gearing up for our Sports Day extravaganza this Saturday! They knocked it out of the park!

Oh, and guess what? We dove headfirst into a rainbow of colours this week! I couldn’t be prouder of my Pups!

What an awesome week we had!

This week has just flown by so quickly! We spoke about families this week and how special they are to all of us. We discussed how different families can be and that some families are small and some are big but they are all very special. We watched a short little movie about families. We sang the finger family song.

The Pups had a lot of fun this week. We played with and experienced different textures of material cloth. We also made different games with the material like ‘peek-a-boo’ which made the Pups laugh so much!

Another activity was playing with carton rolls we left the Pups to free play with these rolls to see how creative they could be. We saw microphones, binoculars, garages for their small cars and even funnels come out of the Pups little imaginations!

We did some free painting for a background that we stuck some magazine cut out pictures of family. The Pups did the painting and sicking and I cut out the family pictures we found.

The Pups went to Yoga on Thursday which they always totally enjoy. Teacher Nicole always has such well-planned and thoughtful lessons for the kiddies.

This week at FunFit sports the Pups practised their colours with Coach Dave. He instructed them to climb through a specific colour tire. Once in the cave the Pup had to spot the tire Coach Dave was peeking through and then climb out. Such Fun!

Well another week gone by and another precious week spent with all of our little Pups!

For art this week, we created our family tree. The trunk of our tree was made with our hand prints, the leaves of the tree were made with a sponge and then we coloured in stick figure families to make our different family members.  We then stuck our family members where we wanted them to go. It was so amazing to see how some of our Bugs have established the “family tree” and grouped all of their family members together, some even saying “I go here by mommy and daddy”. Others have established the sibling bond and chose to stick all the siblings together.

Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to see these beautiful works of art for a while, as we have decided to do a collaborative piece between this week, and the following 2 weeks (My house and my pets), and keep this for Art Expo.

We also asked everyone to send in a family photo of themselves for a surprise slideshow for the Bugs. The looks on their faces were priceless as they realised it was them and their family on the screen! As soon as they saw themselves, they would jump up and say, “that’s me!!!!”

This week it’s all about our families. We started off this short week by doing a number activity. We mixed red and blue paint which made purple paint. We painted a number, traced the number 7, and showed how we got the colour purple by colouring in red + blue = Purple.

We discussed our Families and who all lives with us and who is in our family. At the end of the week, we drew our family, we got some very interesting family portraits!

Over the next few weeks we will be working on our integrated theme art piece, this week our Hoppers painted a triangle with bubble wrap for our shape of the week and coloured in little pictures of their family members. We are so excited to see how the art will come out at the end.

We had a free play day with construction blocks and puppets. Free play activities are just as important as structured activities, as it alllows the children to use their imagination and explore. It also allows the children to work on their social skills such as sharing and communicating their feelings.

Happy Hoppers Yoga week: partner poses was our theme on yoga day. Focusing on working as a team. We had to use our balance and core strength to not fall over. Lots of giggles, and laughter.

Coach Dave will be getting the kiddies ready for Sports Day at FunFit Sports over the next few weeks …  we don’t want to give away what the children will be doing on the day! Remember to diarise the 25th of March so you can see where all the “Hoppers” hard work has gone into!

Concert practice is also well on the way, for our music lessons each week we will be learning and practicing concert songs. So much excitement!

It has been a great week.

Welcome back after our first Midterm break , we trust that everyone had a restful weekend with your friends and families.

THEME DISCUSSIONS:

This week in the Curious Crew class , we enjoyed our daily theme discussions , we spoke out our families and each child had a turn to tell us something about their families.

We emphasised that each family is different, in some way of another , and we explained that that’s okay. We spoke about how some families have pets , and some don’t. Some families have siblings and some don’t. Although families are different they are still so filled with love. We focused quite a lot on our number letter and colour of the week too , practicing rhymes and counting everyday.

For Art this week , we used recycled plastic bottles , sticks , beads and little self drawn pictures of our families to make our very own unique and beautiful family trees 🌲, the class really went into depth of making their family trees unique. This activity really intrigued their creative side of the brain, we saw many colours , patterns and beautiful art pieces coming out during this activity.

We also completed a fun simple tracing worksheet , and our purpose of this worksheet was to implement simple listening skills and emphasising the importance of following instructions

For our colour of the week, we did a fun art experiment, we did a fun team activity where we mixed blue and red to make purple . The class was so fascinated to see just how different each hand print came out , and just how different purples can be.

 WEEKLY YOGA

Curious crew Yoga week: partner poses was our theme today. Focusing on working as a team. We had to use our balance and core strength so as not to fall over. Lots of giggles, laughter

And it was amazing and fun to see the class doing these poses on the playground showing their fellow friends what they’ve learnt.

FUNFIT SPORTS

This week Coach Dave is focusing on prepping our fellow curious crew class friends for our exciting sports day we have coming up , they practicing their racing , and focused of hurdles.

During this the class also learnt simple skills such as waiting our turns , following instructions and cheering on our friends. NOTHING LIKE TEAM SPIRIT!!

Overall it was a wonderful week , and it was lovely learning about everyone’s families.

We hope that everyone had a well-rested mid-term break, and that we are ready to have a jam-packed remainder of term one!

This week’s theme was filled with many different discussions about our unique families. This is so true; everyone has their very own interesting and wonderful family that we all love and care for. The Squad had so much fun telling their friends about their aunts and uncles, cousins, pets, grandparents and so forth.

Writing and Phonics: The next three letters that were focused on this week were Ss, Tt and Uu. We like to introduce the phonics by playing a game and this week the children had to go around and see how many words they could say that starts with that sound. We were pleased and impressed that they were able to say so many! We then asked the children to focus on their letter formation and we do this by getting the children to write on their white boards and then take what they have learnt, and practice it in their lined books. They are really getting the hang of writing independently. Well done Smart Squad!

Maths: Last week we introduced basic addition and the concept of counting on from a number. So, for example, we have two apples in the basket, and we bought 3 more which means that we have a total of 5 items in our basket. We then extended this by moving on to addition to 10 items. The Squad are working hard to grasp this concept and once they have it, it will be much easier for them to add later in the year. To assist with the lesson, the Squad used a visual aid to practice their addition by using little squares or blocks. It is great to add different aids when introducing difficult concepts so that all types of learners can learn in a way that suits them.

Life Skills: Honesty is the best policy! The Squad really loved learning this little saying to help with the moral conscious theme of the week. We had a great discussion on lies and how it is always better to tell the truth because lies get bigger and bigger until we cannot handle them anymore. The analogy of how snow gathers down a hill was used to help the kiddies understand how serious lies can get.

Art: Since the week was a short one, we have decided to combine our art over two weeks and create a wonderful masterpiece for the Squad to take home. We did however create our very own family tree, where the children drew their unique family members in different circles and then enjoyed telling their teachers who they are and how much fun they have with that person. We have added this worksheet into our ‘Book of Me’ pile and this will be displayed at the end of the year at Graduation. We cannot wait for you to see this wonderful surprise!

Sight Words: look, at, me, in, here, on, she, he, the

It has been a lovely week, see you all on Monday.

We love this week’s theme! Seeing the kiddies light up talking about their families is just too cute! It was a short week so boy were we busy!

We worked on some trickier skills this week. Copying dot patterns and line tracing for pencil grip practice. We like to challenge the Crews’  little minds and see how they progress throughout the year!

Of course, we had to draw a family picture this week – these are so cute!

Our shape of the week is triangle – our poem to remember that a triangle has three sides is:

Tommy triangle proud as can be, count my sides, 1, 2, 3!

Our first Gerry adventure took place and Ben was so excited to show his class mates what he got up to with Gerry! We really look forward to seeing all the children experience the excitement of being chosen by Gerry.

In Heart Matters this week, teacher Hela got them to act out certain emotions by playing a game that was lots of fun! This helped the children recognise what emotions we can all experience and that it is ok to experience any emotion!

Have a wonderful weekend all!

Family Trees!

On Tuesday we went for a nature walk to collect sticks for our family trees.

We worked on them throughout the week and they have turned out sooo beautifully!

We know you will love them! The children put extra effort into them. We think that we will be saving these for art expo too 😀

Dear Hopper Parents

This week was all about families! We discussed our theme: My Family, and who is in our family. We drew pictures of our families, some of the Hoppers who do not have siblings were adamant to draw a brother or sister too!

After our discussion about who is in our family, each Hopper chose a family member template indicating who “lives under their roof”. Once coloured in, the template got added to their family roof, which represents our shape of the week.

We just love chatting about families as we always get to hear about the “hundreds of dogs” or “many cats” that are part of their families! Safe to say, there is never a dull moment during Ring Time discussions, our Hoppers are so entertaining!

We had a free play day with construction blocks and puppets. Free play activities are just as important as structured activities, as it allows the children to use their imaginations and explore. It also allows the children to work on their social skills such as sharing and communicating their feelings.

Next week’s theme is: My House

Have a safe and lovely weekend folks!

Magic!

For our number activity we mixed red and blue paint which made purple paint.

We then painted a number 7 and counted out 7 objects to paste onto our number 7.

Mixing colours is always so much fun and magical, we just love seeing the kids reactions towards the colour change!
