Hi there, Parents, 😊

We had such a wonderful week. It truly flew by.

This week we learnt all about our Families one of the most important and meaningful themes we explore. It was so special to hear about all the different family types and members in our class. This theme really helps us get to know your children better, and they looked so proud sharing information about their loved ones. 💛 Thank you for all the kiddo’s beautiful show and tell.

We also shared some lovely stories about our own families, and the kiddos absolutely loved learning more about us too. Some of them were kind of shocked that we don’t live at school. They are so funny.

For art this week, the learners created a special surprise for our upcoming Art Show, incorporating our family theme 🎨✨ We can’t wait for you to see it!

In phonics, we continued with correct letter formation for p, q, r, s, t. We are almost at the end of the alphabet, and then we can start building words. Yay! 😁

In our time to read workbooks we worked on our sounds dots for example cat will be three sounds dots. It’s a visual tool used to help children hear and identify the individual sounds {phonemes} in a word. Each dot represents one sound in a word. Our Smart Squad learners are grasping this skill very quickly.

Coding this week was all about repeating patterns.

What an exciting week we’ve had in Crew! Our theme this week was My Family, and the children had so much fun learning, creating, and sharing little pieces about the people who make their families special.

Numeracy

In numeracy we worked with the number 7 and continued practicing our addition and subtraction using Unifix cubes. The cubes make maths so much easier for the children to understand because they can physically build and break apart the numbers while they work things out.

Language

Our focus letter this week was “Gg.” The children practised writing the letter g and moulded the letters we have learnt so far out of playdough. This is always such a fun way to practise letter formation while strengthening those little finger muscles.

Art

For art this week we created a really special piece connected to our My Family theme. The children went on a little walk around the grounds looking for sticks to represent the members of their family. It was so sweet watching them carefully choose sticks that “matched” their family just right. Each piece turned out beautifully and was so meaningful.

Literacy

In our literacy time we finished our novel The Twits by Roald Dahl, and the children absolutely loved it! There were lots of giggles and shocked faces while we read. Finishing the story inspired a special surprise art piece that we will reveal at Art Expo.

Fun Fit Sport

During Fun Fit Sport this week the children tackled an obstacle course where they balanced over tyres, climbed the rope, and slid down the slide. It was great to see them encouraging each other and giving it their best effort.

Brain Breaks

With this cold and dreary weather, we’ve been doing lots of brain breaks during the day to keep our bodies warm and the blood flowing. The class favourite at the moment is Banana Banana Meatball from GoNoodle — the children absolutely love it!

A Little Thank You

I would also just like to say thank you to all the parents who have sent in their family photos. We are very excited about what we are creating with them and can’t wait to show you the result.

It has truly been such a lovely and exciting week in Crew, and I am so proud of the effort and enthusiasm the children continue to show every day.

Good afternoon Moms and Dads

This week our theme was a really special one. All about our families. We had lovely discussions about our moms, dads, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunties, uncles and our grandparents. And don’t forget our pets!

The week started off to a rainy wet Monday where the children had to stay indoors, although this did not dampen the fun.

We coloured in a picture of a family, danced to some action songs and had a cosy movie and popcorn hour which the children really loved!

We painted our hands and did a family tree where we asked the children to tell us who was in their family.

FunFit Sports was another favourite where our Happy Hoppers balanced, hopped, did some catching and more fun exercises.

We spoke about a triangle and counted how many sides it has.

We made special family frames where the little ones decorated their frames with much love and glitter.

Our Happy Hoppers did so well in the lockdown drill procedure in case of the event of an emergency.. they played hide and seek very well!

We ended off another fun week with some lovely show and tell ideas, beautiful family photos and heart warming stories.

Thank you for ana awesome week!

This week we had such a busy and heartwarming week in our Busy Bugs class as we focused on the theme “My Family.”

During ring time, we had very special discussions about our families. We showed pictures of each Bug’s family, and the children had the opportunity to look carefully and tell us who they could see in the photo. One by one, they proudly came to the front of the class to identify their family members. It was absolutely precious to see the big smiles on their faces as they pointed out mommy, daddy, brothers, sisters, and even grandparents. They spoke with such confidence and excitement. These moments truly remind us how important family is in their little worlds.

We also spoke about the importance of being kind and helpful at home. We discussed how we can help our mommies and daddies when they ask us to do something, like packing away our toys or being gentle with our siblings. The Bugs understood that being part of a family means loving one another and helping where we can.

For art this week, we created the most adorable family trees. The Bugs painted their paper green to form the tree leaves, and then each child was called individually to colour in their family stick figures. While they were busy colouring, we asked questions like, “Do you have a brother?” or “Do you have a sister?” They excitedly identified each family member while working on their picture. It was such a lovely way to combine creativity with conversation. This special art piece will be kept safe for our upcoming art expo, and we cannot wait for you to see their beautiful work.

We also spent time strengthening our fine motor skills. The Bugs worked very hard on their cutting skills and enjoyed building puzzles together. It makes us so proud to see how much progress they are making each week. Their confidence is growing, and they are becoming more independent with our classroom routines and new activities that we introduce.

For numeracy, we focused on the number 1. The Bugs had to circle all the number 1s they could find on their worksheet. I was truly blown away by how well they did. Some of them even spotted number 1s that I nearly missed myself. It was such a proud teacher moment.

In yoga this week, we had another wonderful Busy Bugs Yoga session. Our theme song was “I am a mountain tall and strong,” which the children sang with so much enthusiasm. For breath work, we practiced head and shoulders breathing, along with five star breaths and five candle blows to help calm our bodies.

Our poses for the week included mountain, frog, eagle, star, monkey, and pigeon. The Bugs had so much fun hopping like frogs and stretching tall like mountains. We ended our session with quiet time, lying down peacefully while listening to the calming sounds of dolphins swimming. It was the perfect way to relax our busy bodies.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Busy Bugs. They continue to grow, learn, and shine in their own special ways, and it is such a joy to watch them flourish.

This week in the Playful Pups classroom our theme was “My Family”, and here at school we like to think of ourselves as one big happy family too. Of course, our little Pups are still very young, and the idea of “family” is quite a big concept for them to fully grasp, so we spent a lot of time chatting about what families are and how wonderfully different they can be.

We looked at lots of pictures of families and talked about how some families are small and some are big, with lots of extended family members. The Pups loved pointing out moms and dads in the pictures, and we spoke about how each of them belongs to their own special family. Some of our Pups proudly shared that they have brothers and sisters. As you can imagine, these conversations came with plenty of enthusiastic pointing.

Monday morning, as usual, kicked off with our Yoga session with Teacher Nicole. The Pups stretched, bent, balanced and did their very best yoga poses, which sometimes looked a little more like interpretive dance… but the effort was there! As always, the session ended with a very sweet and slightly wobbly “Namaste” from our little yogis.

On Tuesday Coach Trevor was back for our FunFit Sports session. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans, so once again we brought the action indoors. Coach Trevor had the Pups choose a couple of brightly coloured balls and, from a short distance, try their best to land them inside a basket. Now, while this sounds simple in theory, our little athletes quickly discovered that aim and coordination are still very much a work in progress! But what they lacked in accuracy they certainly made up for in determination, and there were lots of proud smiles whenever a ball made it into the basket.

One of the best parts of this activity was watching the Pups happily collect their own balls afterwards. When it was time to pack up, they were more than willing to help get all the balls back into the basket. We are also seeing some lovely progress with taking turns and patiently waiting for their turn, which is no small achievement at this age!

We also continued with our trademark “Tea Ring”, which has become a firm favourite in our classroom routine. Sitting together at the table with a warm cup of tea and a snack keeps the Pups engaged while we chat about our number, colour and shape of the week.

This week’s colour was purple. A few of our Pups are getting very good at recognising it, while others remain absolutely convinced that everything is still blue — shouted out with great confidence, of course!

Next week our theme will be “My House”, and we’re looking forward to making it another fun and exciting week of learning and discovery with our little Pups.

Wishing all our families a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next week.

“Families are like fudge, mostly sweet with a few nuts!”

Families come in many different shapes and sizes, and each one is as special as the next. We love all of our Busy Bugs’ families and are proud to be a part of our giant EcoKids Family!

We had so much fun learning about our families this week. We learnt about our mommies and daddies real names, not just “mommy” and “daddy”. We also asked each Bug what they call their other family members like granny, ouma, giagia and so many more! We spoke about extended family like aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as super extended family, which are the friends that become family.

For art this week, we created our family tree by colouring in the members of our family, and sponge painting a tree, then attaching it to a toilet roll for the trunk. These are just adorable!

We also asked everyone to send in a family photo of themselves for a surprise slideshow for the Bugs. The looks on their faces were priceless as they realized it was them and their family on the screen! As soon as they saw themselves, they would jump up and say, “that’s me!!!!”

Have an awesome weekend everyone!

IB Principle: Caring – We explained how important it is to have respect, compassion and empathy towards the feelings and needs of others. We practiced this by complimenting our friends and showing how much we care for them by filling their love tanks.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad received two new sight words, ‘mom” and “dad”. We are impressed with how they are remembering their sight words, their little faces light up each time they realise they can “read”, hehe to cute! – Please keep practicing sight words at home too. They Traced the letters “p”,” q”, and “r” in their workbooks, followed by writing their name using the “cat method”. –  Great work Squad!

Mathematics:  For maths this week the Squad practiced counting from 30 and back as well as completed addition sums up to 10 using the “counting on method”.

Cooking: The Squad focused on talking about what different measurements we use in the kitchen – is it ml or can it be grams or can it be kilograms. We also had an activity where they placed the heaviest to the lightest.

Creative Art: The Squad made their own picture frames made out of a wooden house using ice cream sticks,  they then drew their family inside, they came out super cute!

This is always one of our favourite themes! There’s something so special about seeing the Crew’s adorable drawings of their families and hearing the sweet stories that go along with them.

One of the key lessons we focused on this week was that every family is different and unique. We had a fun discussion about what makes someone a granny or grandpa, and the class confidently answered, “When you get old!” To help illustrate the different family relationships, we drew a family tree on the board and showed how families branch out to include uncles, aunties, and cousins.

 Arts & Creativity:

🎨 For our first artwork, the Crew created beautiful stick frames and drew portraits of their families. They turned out BEAUTIFULLY! (Sorry, parents—these masterpieces are being saved for our annual art expo!)

🖼️ For our second artwork, each child looked into a mirror and drew a self-portrait. These turned out too adorable not to save for the expo as well!

 Exploring Colour:

This week’s colour was PURPLE! The Crew paired up and mixed red and blue together, watching in amazement as their new colour appeared. Their little faces lighting up never gets old—it’s always such a magical moment!

Music & Movement:

This week, we explored different musical instruments and their unique sounds. We also introduced the Crew to different musical genres like rock, classical, and jazz. To help them feel the music, we did a fun activity where each child received a blank sheet of paper. As I played a song, they had to draw lines to represent how the music made them feel. It was so interesting to see the variety of responses! Rock ‘n’ Roll seemed to be the class favourite!

 Fun Fit Sports:

The Crew had a blast practicing their throwing and catching skills! They took turns tossing small plastic balls through a hula hoop held by a friend and then swapped roles. Teamwork and hand-eye coordination in action!

 Fine Motor Fun:

To strengthen those tiny muscles, the Crew used earbuds dipped in paint to trace numbers 1–10 before trying to write them on their own. Their little concentrating faces were just too cute! We also did a name tracing and writing activity using pastels—yes, it was a messy one, but totally worth the joy on their faces!

 Math Concepts:

This week, we introduced the ideas of shorter than, taller than, and equal to. The Crew had so much fun measuring each other and then drawing their friends who were taller or shorter than them in their workbooks. Hands-on learning at its best!

 Yoga Time!

This week’s yoga session was all about partner poses, focusing on teamwork, balance, and core strength. The Crew also practiced their Sun Salutation, a flowing sequence of six poses. What a wonderful way to build both strength and mindfulness! – Love, Teacher Nicole.

I am so incredibly proud of how much the Crew is learning and growing! Keep up the amazing work, little ones!

Over the next few weeks we will be working on our integrated theme art piece, this week our Hoppers painted a triangle with bubble wrap for our shape of the week and coloured in little pictures of their family members. We are so excited to save this 3-week masterpiece for our art show. For cooking this week, we learnt the skill of whisking and stirring. The Hoppers learnt how to whisk eggs. This is a great activity for their basic maths skills by counting eggs and to build language skills. It is also good to build their fine motor muscles.

At FunFit sports we practised a full run through of our Sports Day which will be taking place this Saturday 9th of March. We hope to see you there.

Concert practice is also well on the way, for our music lessons each week we will be learning and practicing concert songs. So much excitement!
