Writing and Phonics: The Squad have been practicing listening to the beginning sounds of different words. They had a worksheet to complete which required them to choose the correct sound to match the picture. We also completed handwriting which was the letters (S, T and U). We are pleased with how far the Squad have come with this but also encourage extra practice at home.

Mathematics: Measurement is a difficult topic to understand but the Squad blew us away with how quickly they grasped this. We began by explaining that everything can be measured, and we can use different pieces of equipment to measure such a ruler, tape measure etc. They then had a worksheet to complete which focused on measuring the item on the page using cubic squares. Well done!

Creative Art: In sticking with the theme, the Squad were asked to complete their house and what it looks like inside. We are keeping this one for Art Expo and cannot wait for you to see it.

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor taught the Squad the rules of cricket and they played a few rounds. Well, done Squad!

Music: Teacher Katy has been practicing our concert songs with the children and working through the tempo of each song.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Next week is all about PETS ...

I would like to start off by saying a BIG well done to all our Crew that participated in our Sports Day over the weekend! You all did so well especially with the trickier obstacles like Javelin and Discus! We saw some amazing skills being displayed as well as healthy competition. You all can be very proud of yourselves and I’m sure enjoyed your nap when you got home, I sure know I did. LOL!

During our ring time sessions this week we spoke about different types of homes, and not only homes for humans but what kind of home animals and insects make for themselves or find. We also went through each room in the house where I gave the Crew one clue and they had to guess the room. This helped in the activity for the week where they made a little house with different rooms. We also spoke about different types of homes, tree houses, apartments, huts, caravans, TP’s and igloos. We discussed what materials you need to build a house and I must say the Crew knew quite a lot about what materials are needed. Such clever Crew we have!

This week during ringtime we focus quite a lot on letter recognition. Going through each letter and words that start with the letter. When practicing at home, please make sure to focus on the sound of the letter and not the name, refer to my Voice Note to the group earlier this week. However the Crew have such an interest and are doing really well.

Our little house from the week are so cute and we would like to keep them for Art Expo. They were given a page of 8 pictures, each one that goes into a different room. The Crew had to cut out and paste their pictures down. Then they took their time colouring in and drawing other pieces of furniture for the different rooms. Such beautiful work was produced!

Music and Movement this week, we were joined with Teacher Mo, who introduced rhythem and  timing to the Crew but our clever Crew already knew time because of how we practiced our Sports Day war cry. Stamp stamp clap, We will, we will, rock you! Looking forward to the lessons to come with teacher Mo and what music has install.

Mind Ninja this week we focused on NOW. All details of the lesson where sent to the group and a diagram was sent home.

In Fun Fit Sports coach Trevor worked on ball skills and hand eye coordination. The Crew love playing cricket and each had a good few turn practicing their hitting skills. It’s so interesting to see who our natural athletes are. Working on a child’s strengths are just as important as working on their weaknesses.

Next week’s theme with be My Pets, don’t forget to book your time slop if you would like to bring a pet to show the class. Next week is only a 3 day week as the 21st is a public holiday and Friday is a school holiday with NO holiday club.

Hh – House

It has been a jam-packed week with lots of fun activities and a lot of excitement after our Sports Day. Thank you for all the support, we really do appreciate it.

This week we discussed houses, how each of our houses are different, and what kinds of rooms are found in our house. We also spoke about gardens and what kind of rooms could be found in the garden, such as a tool shed or garage.

We practiced our letter of the week “h” and the sound it makes. We learnt that “h” stands for Harry Hatman in our letterland story book. We also looked for objects around the class that start with the letter “h”

We carried on with our integrated theme art project, last week we coloured in our family members and painted triangles, this week we painted a square with a big paint brush. We painted a big A3 cardboard with some fun painting techniques, our Hoppers sponge painted the sky and used a fork to paint grass, after they were dry the Hoppers pasted our squares and triangles to make the house and then stuck the family members to the picture, we added a door and windows to the house and they even have a house number. These are looking amazing and will finish them with the final additions with next week’s theme “Pets.”

On Thursday for cooking, we made a lovely, sweet treat of a house. We used a tennis biscuit for the square of the house, straight pretzels for the roof, a piece of KitKat for the door and some smarties for the windows.

Happy Hoppers Yoga Day! We focused on our lateral muscles whilst singing and stretching along to the “Clap It” song.

This week’s pose was the forward bend!

Benefits of forward bending:

*Improves digestion

*Stretches and removes tension in the spine and neck

*Increases blood flow

It has been a super busy week with lots of fun activities and excitement in the Happy Hopper classroom.

Our theme next week is: My Pets

If you would like to bring your pet to school next week, please send us a private message so that we can arrange a day and a time slot!

Please label all belonging as we are still receiving many items that aren’t labelled.

Have a safe and lovely weekend!

Hh – House

This week we learned all about “My House”! It is a very fun theme as children get to tell us all about their homes, their favorite rooms, all about what their room looks like and what they have inside it, and who lives in their homes.

We spent a lot of time talking about what makes a house – walls, doors and windows, a roof. The walls are made with bricks and cement and then we paint the walls in nice colours that we like. Then we fill the house with furniture. We put a nice couch in the lounge to sit on and watch tv (and NOT to jump on or off of… haha). We set a table in the kitchen or the dining room to eat at. We have a bed in our bedrooms to sleep on and in the bathroom, there is a shower or a bath or maybe both, where we can wash our bodies after a long and happy day at school!

Then we had a chat about what makes a home… mommies and/or daddies (even if they don’t live in the same house) who love us, brothers and sisters to play with, food to eat together at night while we talk to each other about our days, pets to look after and fun to be had, a place to always feel safe and looked after and happy – this makes a house a home!

Any building can be used as a house and some houses are very, very big! They are called mansions. Other houses are very small and made with wood or tin or boards. Those are called shacks or cabins. Some houses have two levels, or even three! Some only have one. Some have lots and lots of rooms and windows and others only have one or two! This doesn’t matter. Any building can be a house but it is most important to fill that house with love and happiness and call it a home! Our very clever Bugs definitely understood this concept and we are very proud of them.

For art this week, we continued with our collaborative art piece from last week. You don’t get any details on that yet, you will have to wait until Art Expo to see them!

We also made the most awesome houses out of cardboard boxes.

We used poster paint crayons to paint our walls, and then added a very cool twist to them.

Teacher Gemma folded the base of these boxes into a little tray, and in that tray, you will find a pack of grass seeds and a block of peat soil.

Put the block of peat soil in a bowl and add some water. Once it is all separated and “mushy”, you can add this to the tray, plant the grass seeds, and watch your front garden grow.

Like all gardens, this one needs to be watered and “mowed” regularly, so that it stays beautiful and fresh.

Have fun tending to your garden!!!

Just a few reminders:

  • Please keep nails short, so we don’t have any scratching accidents!
  • Please, please, please, NO TOYS ARE ALLOWED AT SCHOOL!
  • Please ensure any morning snacks are healthy. Try to avoid chips, sugary biscuits or sweets.
  • No juice in water bottles. This encourages sharing and we want to keep “our own germs to ourselves”.
  • A reminder to please send hats back to school if they are taken home.
  • Please lable everything!

If you have any exciting pets at home, please PRIVATE MESSAGE Teacher Gemma and we can organise a day where your Bug can bring their pet In (for a few minutes in the morning) and show them off to the class next week.

This week’s secret question: If you could have a holiday home anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Thank you for another lovely week of fun!

This has been a beautiful week playing and exploring with the Pups. When I look back at photos of the Pups from just a few weeks ago, I can see so many changes already! Our Pups are reaching more and more milestones. There are many little ones starting to talk more and understand more language concepts. Often during the day, we hear new words pop out of these little ones mouths and myself and the Playful Pups assistant are so proud and happy to experience these very special moments!

It’s been an eventful busy week talking about our different homes and that we get different kinds of homes. I truly believe home is where the heart is, as the saying goes. This week’s art activity the Pups built their own house using different shapes that I cut out and they had to stick the shapes where they felt they belonged. We also did another art activity that I won’t be sending home as we will keep it for art expo!

For Yoga this week we did the following:

We focused on our lateral muscles whilst singing and stretching along to the “Clap It” song.

This week’s pose was the forward bend!

Benefits of forward bending:

*Improves digestion

*Stretches and removes tension in the spine and neck

*Increasesbloodflow

The Pups absolutely enjoyed it so much!

I hope you all have a lovely, relaxed weekend.

See you on Monday!
