Hh – House

This week we spoke about our homes and how all our homes are different. We covered the different types of rooms in a home and what each room is used for. We also had Baker Baker, which the kids were so excited about!

Writing and Phonics:  We recapped our 3 letters from last week and then introduced the next three letters for the week. We introduced, V, W and X. We spoke about objects that begin with those letters and we sang our phonics songs. We continue to go over our sight words; look, at, me, in, here, she, he, the, on, it, is, I. We played blue vs red team where the children had to identify our sight words. The children are remembering and reading them so well. We are so proud of them! For our handwriting lesson we did some finger warm up activities and then went over the correct formation of those letters on our white boards. Once the children had grasped the concept of the correct formation, we moved onto our writing books where the children traced those three letters using our writing “cats”. We did a comprehension based on “The Three Little Pigs”. We read the story to the children and then asked questions based on the sequence of events of the story. In order to reiterate our phonetical sounds the children where then given a worksheet with different pictures from the story and had to identify the beginning sound of each picture. This was a great listening and phonics activity. Please can we ask parents to reiterate the phonetical letter sounds at home.

Maths: We recapped simple addition up to 10 and did some concrete examples with blocks to reiterate the concept of addition. Once we had done a few examples on the mat, we moved onto some bookwork. The children had simple addition sums up to 10 in their workbooks that they had to complete. We also practiced our number formation and recognition on the deck where the children were given paintbrushes and water and practiced their number formation by painting them on the deck. They had a lot of fun with this!

Art & Life Skills: We spoke about taking responsibility for our belongings and how we can look after our belongings as well as the school toys/books etc. For art this week, we used blocks to create a house. We also made a house using popsicle sticks and the children drew a picture of their family inside the house.

It has been a great week.

See you all next week!

This week has been awesome! We are really loving the art work that the Crew are producing each week so much that we find ourselves wanting to keep it for art expo every time hehe! We hope you enjoy the pictures of them creating it! This week we made open houses and gave the children free creative reign to decorate them with any materials and mediums they wanted to. We worked on these slowly throughout the week, really letting the children take their time. They love gluing, cutting and sticking all kinds of goodies to create interesting little houses! We hope you love them as much as we do!

We worked on copying patterns, following dot to dots and spiral patterns and shape making with pebbles and stones – they Crew really enjoyed this!

In Cooking class, the Crew made a little biscuit house which turned out to be very cute. They also had lots of fun in Heart Matters this week. Be sure to read the WatsApp group to get an insight into what they learned.

The Crew are getting used to the idea of having a class job and they get so excited to see who will be in charge of what for the day. They are also beginning to recognise each other’s names when we hold a name up. This is awesome!

We look forward to next week’s theme which is: My Pets!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hold them to it folks!

The boys and girls loved the colouring in worksheet we gave them of ‘their messy room’.

Some of the children confessed that they do have a messy room while others insisted that theirs is clean 😉

Hh – House

It has been a jam-packed week with lots of fun activities and much excitement working on our 3D artwork!

We had a discussion about houses and how each of our houses are different and what kinds of rooms are found in our houses. We also spoke about gardens and what kind of rooms could be found in the garden, such as a tool shed or a garage.

We started off our week with colouring in some squares, which were later used as windows and doors for our houses. We guided the children in cutting out their square doors and windows. We practiced our cutting skills by asking the children to cut out their square by following the line as close as they could. We will be practicing this skill a lot more in class but please can we ask you to encourage and practice this difficult skill at home. Cutting up some magazine pictures with your Hopper is a great way for them to practice a good scissor grip!

The Hoppers then glued their doors and windows onto their houses which encouraged spatial perception and critical thinking!

We incorporated our Ring Time discussion into our art and created a 3D art piece where the children chose which cardboard box they wanted to use to create their own unique house. Once they were happy with their choice, they painted it in their chosen colour! Some kiddies only wanted to use one colour and others wanted to create a rainbow house. We used ACM offcuts as a roof. We glued the house to a cardboard base which had been decorated to create a garden! The kiddies had a wide variety of materials to choose from. These materials included: fake moss, torn pieces of green paper, leaves, straw, mini logs, bark, sticks and wool!

Our theme next week is: My Pets

If you would like to bring your pet to school next week, please send us a private message so that we can arrange a day and a time slot!

Have a safe and lovely weekend!

Great Job Hoppers!

This week’s art piece is the perfect example of how an activity encourages the children to plan and practice spatial perception, think critically and solve problems.

Our kiddos worked hard on progressively putting together an amazing artwork throughout the week!

Hh – House

This week we learnt all about “My House”! It is a fun theme as children get to tell us all about their homes, their favourite rooms, all about what their room looks like and what they have inside it, and who lives in their homes. We spent a lot of time talking about what makes a house – walls, doors and windows, a roof. The walls are made with bricks and cement and then we paint the walls in nice colours that we like. Then we fill the house with furniture. We put a nice couch in the lounge to sit on and watch tv (and NOT to jump on or off of… haha). We set a table in the kitchen or the dining room to eat at. We have a bed in our bedrooms to sleep on and in the bathroom, there is a shower or a bath or maybe both, where we can wash our bodies after a long and happy day at school!

Then we had a chat about what makes a HOME… mommies and daddies (even if they don’t live in the same house) who love us, brothers and sisters to play with, food to eat together at night while we talk to each other about our days, pets to look after and to have fun with, a place to always feel safe and looked after and happy – this makes a house a home!

Any building can be used as a house and some houses are very, very big! They are called mansions. Other houses are very small and made with wood or tin or boards. Those are called shacks or cabins. Some houses have two levels, or even three! Some only have one. Some have lots and lots of rooms and windows and others only have one or two! This doesn’t matter. Any building can be a house but it is most important to fill that house with love and happiness and call it a home! Our very clever Bugs definitely understood this concept and we are very proud of them.

We also made “fantasy houses.” The Bugs got given a big square, small squares, rectangles, and triangles, and were asked to build their own house out of shapes. This was a completely independent activity, and other than putting the glue on the shapes, the teachers had absolutely nothing to do with. It is so incredible to observe the spatial and observation skills of these Bugs, some of them knew that the big square is the building, and the tringle roof goes on top of that. The rectangle door goes in the middle and the small windows go on the front.

Just a few reminders…

Keep nails short, so we don’t have any scratching accidents!

Please, please, please, NO TOYS ARE ALLOWED AT SCHOOL!

No juice in water bottles. This encourages sharing and we want to keep ”our own germs to ourselves”.

If you have any exciting pets at home, please PRIVATE MESSAGE Teacher Gemma and we can organise a day where your Bug could bring their pet in (for a few minutes in the morning) and show them off to the class next week.

This week’s secret question: If you could have a holiday home anywhere, where would it be?

Thank you for another lovely week of fun!

Real Live Grass!

For art this week, we made our own 3D houses. We used poster paint sticks to colour in cereal boxes and folded them up to form our houses. These are very special … they come complete with their own set of peat soil and grass seeds to plant at home!

Pour water over the soil block and wait for it to absorb and “grow”, sprinkle your seeds into them and wait for these to grow too. Don’t forget to water and maintain your garden just like you would at your house.

Please send us photos showing your lawn progress!

This has been a beautiful week playing and exploring with the Pups. When I look back at photos of the Pups from just a few weeks ago, I can see so many changes already! Our Pups are reaching more and more milestones. There are many little ones starting to talk more and understand more language concepts. Often during the day we hear new words pop out of these little ones mouths and myself and the Playful Pups assistants are so proud and happy to experience these very special moments!

It’s been an eventful busy week talking about our different homes and that we get different kinds of homes. I truly believe home is where the heart is, as the saying goes. The kiddies had fun participating in this week’s group activity. We made one big house out of a cardboard box. It was so much fun watching and helping build and paint our house.

I hope you all have a lovely, relaxed weekend.

See you on Monday!

Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere!

The Pups also had a lot of fun this week playing with water and a bubble bath. They gave our classrooms toys a bath outside in our little playground … and at times bathed each other as well!
