Hello Happy Hoppers Parents! What an amazing week we had together. Action-packed, but with all the fun in the world!

Our Hoppers had lots of fun engaging with their five senses this week. We learned about the senses and how we use them. We used the 5,4,3,2,1 method to see 5 things we could see, 4 things we could hear, 3 things we could feel, 2 things we could smell, and 1 thing we could taste.

We used our tongues to taste different things – sweet, sour, or salty. There were lots of scrunched up faces when tasting the sour! We had a sensory walk, where our Hoppers walked over different sensations with their feet – sand, fuzzy blankets, rocks and pinecones. This helped us to feel each texture through something other than our hands, showing the children that our sense of touch is not just in the hands. We smelled flowers and listened to the sounds of tambourines in the corridors. The Hoppers enjoyed this all so much!

Throughout the week, we worked on two pieces of art. We used coffee and cinnamon to paint a beautiful mandala, while smelling the different scents. Then, in our second artwork, we traced and cut out our hands, and we also cut out the shapes of our eyes, nose, mouth, ears and tongues. The children then glued these down on an image of a face, telling us which part of our faces matched each sense. (Eyes to see, ears to listen, etc.). This helped the Hoppers to figure out the purpose of each sense.

We listened to some music and danced our hearts out a few times too. These Hoppers are really talented!

We attended some more demos for our intra murals this week. We had our Clamber Club demo, which the children enjoyed. An obstacle course was set up which had a bouncing bag at the end. Some Hoppers went on it about six times! Just goes to show how amazing this intra mural is for our Hoppers! We also attended a Modelling demo, where the girls and the boys strutted the runway like it was second nature! The poses they showed us had our jaws on the floor. What a talented group!

We attended FunFit Sports with our amazing Coach Trevor, who had the children running and hopping like the true Happy Hoppers they are. Then, lastly, we had some great Yoga with Teacher Nicole. She is so good with the children, and they absolutely love her too!

What an amazing week! Thank you all so much for being with us. We look forward to seeing all our Hoppers again next week! Lots of love!

We had a wonderful week learning all about Our Five Senses. We started off the week by exploring our sense of sight. The kids had a blast identifying colours and shapes in a fun scavenger hunt. Then, we dived into the world of sound, with everyone taking turns to guess different noises, from a rustling leaf to Teacher Cecilia’s tambourine.

The real magic happened when we got tactile! The kids explored various textures, from soft feathers to rough sandpaper, and their giggles were contagious.

Finally, we indulged our sense of taste and smell with a mini tasting session, where the kids sampled different tastes from sour worm sweets to lemon juice and bitter coffee. The joy on their faces was priceless!

A highlight of the week was braaing our marshemellows on the mini bonfire. This was such a concrete amazing experience for them to incorporate our senses of touch smell taste sight and hearing.

By the end of the week, the classroom was buzzing with excitement and newfound appreciation for the senses It was a week full of discovery, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

The Squad kids have really settled nicely into their daily routines and classrooms.

They worked in their phonics, maths and time to read workbooks, which we are so excited to show off at next week Wednesday’s class meeting.

Yoga this week with teacher Nicole:

Theme: Our 5 Senses

Song: I am Yoga

Poses: mountain, tree, triangle, forward lunge and warrior

Mindfulness learning to slow down and take a breath when we are feeling anxious, scared or upset.

Holding up your hand, think about 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can touch and 1 thing you can taste.

Breath work bunny breath and snake breath

Ending off with quiet time.

What a wonderful, busy and exciting week we have had.

Please remember to label all belongings.

Next week’s theme is Health and Hygiene

Have a lovely weekend.

🌈 A Week of Creativity, Learning & Rhythm! 🌈

What an incredible week it’s been in our classroom! 💛 From art and numeracy to literacy and music, our Curious Crew have been busy exploring, creating, and growing every single day.

🎨 Art Adventures 🎨

This week in art, we created three absolutely amazing pieces — two of which are top-secret surprises for our upcoming Art Expo 🤫✨ (we won’t spill the beans just yet!).

The artwork you received home was truly a labour of love 🤍. Using our super listening skills, the children built their very own robots by carefully following instructions and selecting the shapes that were called out 🟦🔺⬛. I am beyond proud of how our super-cool bots turned out — each one unique and full of personality! 🤖💫

🔢 Numeracy Fun 🔢

In numeracy, we played an exciting game where numbers from 1–20 were scattered around the carpet. Each Curious Crew member had a turn to find their given number and place it in the correct order 🧠✨.

We also continued strengthening our maths manipulation skills, using hands-on resources to build number sense, confidence, and problem-solving abilities 🔢🧩.

🔤 Phonics & Literacy 🔤

Our phonics focus this week was the letter “b”, sounding it out through fun and familiar words like:
ball, blue, brilliant, basket, bun, bubble, and bunting 💙⚽🧺🫧

Through repetition, sound recognition, and playful language, the children are growing more confident with letter sounds and early reading skills every day! 🌟

As we continue our letter writing journey, we focus on positive feedback and gentle encouragement — writing can be challenging, but it is becoming more rewarding with each attempt ✍️💛.
👉 Please continue to encourage name writing at home in lower-case letters — it makes a huge difference 🤞🏻😊.

🥁 Music & Movement 🥁

We had the best time learning how to play the drums with our fantastic music teacher 🎶🥁. It was incredible to watch the children practise their rhythmic patterns, listen to one another, and make fabulous music together as a group! 💃🕺

What a joyful week of learning, creativity, teamwork, and confidence-building! 🌈✨ We are so proud of our Curious Crew and can’t wait for all the exciting learning still to come! 💛

This week our theme was Senses. We started the week by enjoying some ring time, where we discussed our different senses and what they are used for. We also played many fun games related to our senses.

The bugs enjoyed a smelling activity where we sprayed a scent over their heads and they had to guess what they could smell. We also played a hearing game where the bugs had to guess the names of animals based on the sounds they heard. For touch, we enjoyed some playdough play, where the bugs explored and felt the different textures. On Friday, we ended the week with a yummy tasting activity using marshmallows to explore our sense of taste.

For art this week, we made little rattles using toilet rolls. The bugs painted them yellow and then inserted small rocks inside to create sound.

We also enjoyed a numeracy activity where the bugs had to stick stickers along the outline of the number 2, which was our weekly number—of course, on yellow paper! Hehe

During FunFit sports, the bugs played a fun game with Coach Trevor, where they had to throw small balls into buckets. They did absolutely amazing!

We also completed all our fun demos this week, and I can proudly say that the bugs enjoyed each and every one of them.

In addition, we enjoyed a music lesson in class where the bugs had to follow instructions given by their teachers. We moved fast, fast, fast and slowww, slowww, slowww.

I am so proud of the bugs and how well they are adapting to the school routine. You are making Teacher Nettie’s heart very happy!

Moral conscious theme: Risk Takers – We explained to the Squad that being a risk taker is like being a brave adventurer! It means trying new things, even if they might not work out. When you take risks, you learn and grow, and sometimes you discover amazing things about yourself and the world around you. Imagine if you never tried riding a bike or swimming because you were afraid of falling or getting wet? You would miss out on so much fun! Taking risks helps you build confidence, make new friends, and find new passions. It’s okay to make mistakes – that’s how we learn! So, don’t be afraid to take a chance, try something new, and see where it takes you. You might just discover something amazing!

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad worked hard on remembering and reading their sight word “look” and new sight word “at” – Please continue to practice sight words at home too. We also practiced letter formations “d”,” e”, and “f” in our workbooks, well tried Squad! The squad also engaged in an interactive worksheet activity where they clapped out the syllables of various words to identify their rhythm and pronunciation. They then cut out pictures representing different objects, such as binoculars, and pasted them into corresponding columns labeled 1-5, based on the number of syllables in each word. For instance, the picture of binoculars was placed in the column labeled “4”, accurately reflecting its four syllables: bin-o-cu-lars.

Mathematics: This week, the Squad honed their math skills by practicing counting and basic addition. They were presented with a worksheet that has different objects and were tasked with counting each set, recording the corresponding number in the designated block. Finally, they tallied up the total number of objects across all sets and wrote the answer in the final block. We are impressed with how they grasped this concept so well!

Cooking: The little chefs enjoyed a fun cooking session this week. Wearing blindfolds, they explored different foods using their senses of touch, smell, and taste.

Creative Art: The squad created their own interactive senses book, exploring the five senses. For the sense of touch, they incorporated different textures using varied materials. To stimulate the sense of smell, they used different spices. During a nature walk, they captured the beauty of their surroundings through drawings, highlighting the sense of sight. They then cut out different foods from a magazine and pasted them down in their book for taste, and finally they crafted their own earrings using threaded beads, cleverly illustrating the sense of hearing by decorating a picture of an ear. They were so chuffed with their creation, hehe!

We have had an amazing week in the Curious Crew class! We have been super busy this week with some awesome creative and fun activities. Where to even start?

During ring time discussions this week, we first went over our five senses. Which the Crew knew quite well! We then went into detail about the people who don’t have their sight and people who don’t have their hearing. We discussed that a person without sight is called blind and that they get around using a stick which they tap the ground with. Blind people also have guide dogs which help them get around. We asked the children how blind people can read and taught them that they read by dots on a page with their fingertips. If you are in the shops pick up any product in a glass bottle, at the bottom around the edge you will feel little dots, this is brail.

We spoke about people who can’t hear and that they are called deaf. People who can’t hear have a special way of speaking to each other – Sign language! We learnt a few words in sign language: bathroom, drink, thirsty, more, finished, hungry, please and thank you. The Crew have had to show in sign language if they want more and if they are finished during snack and lunch time. Please ask your little ones at home to show you the sign language they have learnt, and if you would like to show them more sign language you can google ASL for kids.

We also continued to focus on our fine motor skills by doing some tracing activities and we combined this with our letter, shape and number of the week. We also did a senses activity where the Crew drew things they like to taste, touch, smell, hear and see.

Our fun activity was trying to guess what scents were in the smelling jars with a blindfold on, some of the kiddie’s reactions were so funny!

Jolly Phonics is such a hit in the classroom at the moment and I love hearing all our kiddies singing along and learning the sounds that letters make. If possible, please play the Jolly Phonics songs at home in the background as this is great exposure for your little one.

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor is just the best! He has such a playful way of guiding the children with activities he has set up. This week he focused on teaching the crew to listen to instructions and some speed skills. The Crew were instructed to run and fetch 1 ball at a time and take it back to the bucket and then stand in their hula hoop but the tricky part was they were racing against someone else, so they had to make sure to concentrate and follow the rules.

 Yoga:

Breathing exercises: Pom Pom blowing using our balloon breath for hard and far blowing and using our peaceful breath for slow and calming blowing.

Our yoga song: It’s a marvelous day – which is a flow sequence of 8 yoga poses.

Closing off with resting pose whilst listening to bubble popping sounds.

For art this week in the Curious Crew class, we made sensory texture pages where The Crew stuck little bits and bobs onto cardboard and while doing so they had to describe the texture of these objects. It was so interesting to see how each child described their objects differently to their friends. Please note this artwork will be kept for our annual art expo.

Thinking tricks: Please try some of these fun games at home with your Crew e.g. putting on a movie but switching off the screen and having them only listen to the sound, seeing if they can guess which movie is on. Or sing a few songs, where here and there you say the wrong word and see if they notice… This can be so much fun and at the same time, works on those very important listening skills.

We are so proud of our Crew!

Love from Teacher Tegan

Another action-packed week full of busy amazing activities in our Hopper classroom. Our Happy Hoppers had a fun week learning and an engaging week in the classroom discussing our five senses.

Throughout the week we worked on a progressive art piece where the kids created a texture board. We started with a discussion about each of our five senses and the purpose they serve.

Our art was fun as we painted the kiddies’ hands and some of them told us it tickled their hands. They made four handprints each and after that we placed a different object on each hand to represent something hard, soft, smooth, and rough.

They had so much fun talking about the five senses and loved telling Teacher Cecilia that the eyes are to see beautiful things, sometimes not so beautiful, our sense of sight, the nose for the sense of smell, ears for the sense of hearing, the mouth for the sense of taste and the hands for the sense of touch! We just love it when our Hoppers can tell us all about what they are learning about during Ring Time! We still have some shy little people, but this will surely improve with time.

They experienced a fun activity where they got to taste all sorts of different tastes. The expressions on our cute Hopper faces were so funny and super rememberable.

The Hoppers were remarkably busy this week attending extra murals demos, learning dancing, and singing lots of action songs.

YAY YOGA DAY is always so much fun with Teacher Nicole, our Hoppers just love her so much. Happy Hoppers Yoga Day 💙

Breathing exercises: pom pom blowing using our balloon breath for hard and far blowing and using our peace breath for slow and calming blowing.

Our yoga song:

It’s a Marvelous day – which is a flow sequence of 8 yoga poses.

Closing off with resting pose whilst listening to bubble popping sounds 🫧🫧

Our theme next week is Health and Hygiene. Have a safe and lovely weekend!

“We use our hands to feel, we use our hands to feel. Rough, smooth, soft and hard, we use our hands to feel!”

We have had such a fun week! We asked the Bugs lots of questions about their senses, and which parts of the body is used for our different senses. Our eyes to see, noses to smell, hands to feel, mouths to taste and ears to hear. We also did lots of singing – singing in soft voices, loud voices, deep voices and squeaky voices – putting our Auditory (hearing) sense to use.

We engaged our Tactile (touch) sense by feeling our texture boards. We also explored our Gustatory (taste) sense, which happens to be The Busy Bugs teachers’ favorite activity throughout the entire year, by doing a taste exercise using a cinnamon for bitter, sugar for sweet, salt for salty and our favorite – lemon juice for sour. We did feel a little bad after making these Bugs taste lemon juice… so we gave them a little treat afterwards- hehe! We just love watching the different reactions and facial expressions caused by the tastes- especially the sour one- and we always end up in fits of laughter!

We explored our Olfactory Sense (smell) by using our smelling jars. Some of the Bugs were a little reluctant to get their noses too close, but for the most part, everyone had fun!

We explored our Auditory senses some more by playing with musical instruments, banging drums, shaking bells, knocking sticks together and listening to the different sounds from the piano.

Our art piece for this week was sent home on Wednesday, an awesome sensory painting (which doubled as an invitation to our Bonfire Night). We mixed cinnamon, Tumeric and Barbeque spice with water, and painted a cool picture of a bonfire fire. There were mixed reactions when we asked our Bugs to smell their painting- but our favorite response was definitely “mmmm, that’s wondeful!”.

So, as you can see, we had a very busy and exciting week and look forward to many, many more with your awesome Bugs!

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all next week.

Next week’s theme: Health and Hygiene

Please could we ask everyone to send your child’s toothbrush and toothpaste, clearly labelled, in a Ziploc bag by Friday. We will be brushing our teeth after snack on Friday as a fun activity!

This week was all about exploring our senses, and oh my goodness, the pups had so much fun! 🐾

Art Time:

We made the cutest rattles using little plastic bottles. The Pups got to fill them with all sorts of fun objects, and it was so sweet seeing their excitement as they shook and explored the sounds! Then came the messy play — a big hit! The Pups had to dig around to find objects using their hands and tweezers, and once they finished, they rubbed the different textures all over their hands. They were absolutely adorable and couldn’t stop giggling! 🤭 Finally, we did a smelly adventure with spices, and the pups loved sniffing all the different scents. It was such a sensory delight!

Yoga Time:

Yoga day was a huge success! 🎉 We started with some warm-up stretches, then sang along to our favorite yoga song, “Clap it Right!” The pups stretched left and right to build those strong little muscles! After that, we enjoyed a peaceful quiet time listening to the sounds of dolphins and bubbles popping—such a calming moment for everyone. And, of course, we practiced some deep breathing to help them relax and focus. 🧘

FunFit Sports:

Coach Trevor joined us for some FunFit sports, and although it was our first time, the Pups worked on their balance and coordination. Not all of them were totally sure at first, but I know they’ll get more comfortable with each session. I’m so proud of their effort and I can’t wait to see them shine next week!

Overall, it’s been an amazing week in the Playful Pups Classroom, and I’m beyond proud of how well all our little Pups are adjusting! 🐶 They’re doing such a great job exploring, learning, and having fun every single day. 💖

Moral conscious theme: Treating our Friends with Care – we spoke about how important it is to treat others with the kind and respect that we would like to receive. We also taught them that our words can be hurtful. We need to use kind words to fill our friendship love tanks.

Writing and Phonics: We went over our “D, E, F” letters, this included the Squad writing the letters with marks first and then writing the letters in their books. They have been getting used to using the ‘cat method’ – some letters are small; some are tall and some fall.

Mathematics: For maths we counted to 30 and in 5s. We were pleased to know that the Squad are able to recognise the numbers 0-10. We practiced writing the numbers and also discussed the properties of a square, they pressed different items (square-shaped) into paint. Well done, Squad!

Creative Art: This week we focused on our five senses – what we can see, touch, hear, smell and taste. We created a senses booklet where the children used those different elements to stick in spices, cut out from magazines, drew a picture and more. We know you are going to love this art piece!

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor played cricket with the squad this week and they absolutely adored this – we were blown away with their skills.

Music: Teacher Katy visited the Squad on Wednesday, and they practiced their vowel and 3D shapes song whilst she played the piano which assisted with time keeping. Keep it up Squad!

Music and movement: This week we went over clapping beats 1 beat, 2 beats, 1 and 2 beats, 3 beats. We then sang and marched to the Ants go marching one-by-one and played musical status

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor is just the best! He has such a playful way of guiding the children with activities he has set up. This week he focused on balance, walking over the tyres and practiced throwing skills with the Crew. Not just any throwing skills but Shot Put to start preparing the kids for Sports in the months ahead.

Mind Ninja: This week the Crew identified the emotion sad and that it’s also ok to be sad. Sometimes we need a few minutes to feel all the sadness before we can carry on. Even though we don’t want our children to be sad, it is very important that when they are feeling sad that it is validated and they are allowed the time to feel it fully and then they can ‘Turn their frown upside down’. If you found a little picture in their bags like this ‘: ) :’ this was the concept taught.

For art this week in the Curious Crew class, we did our names in braille! Once everyone had completed the art activity, we waited for the glue to dry, they then had to close their eyes and feel what their Name felt like in braille. They were very Curious about this activity, doing well following the instructions.

Thinking tricks: Please try some of these fun games at home with your Crew eg. putting on a movie but switching off the screen and having them only listen to the sound, seeing if they can guess which movie is on. Or sing a few songs, where here and there you say the wrong word and see if they notice… This is just so much fun and we love to see their reactions, it will make you laugh!!! At the same time, working on those very important listening skills. Let us know if there are any that you come up with, that will be fun in class to do too.

Next week’s theme: Health and hygiene
