Writing and Phonics: The Squad have been going over their alphabet letter names and sounds. We played a game where the letters were sprawled over the classroom mat and the children were asked one by one to find that specific letter. Afterwards they were asked to say a word that starts with that letter.

We also went over handwriting, and the children wrote sentences using sight words and CVC words. Focusing on finger spacing, and letter formation. We are pleased with how much focus and determination the Squad have had to make sure that their letters touch the lines and that they have been taking so much pride in their work. Well done!

Mathematics: The Squad have been counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We have been asking the children to write numbers 1-20 and identify numbers 11-20 (double digit). Focusing that the number “1” comes first. Also recognising that they pronounce “teen” and not “ty” as in “thirt(ty)”.

We also went over addition using the counting on method. The children are asked to read a sum such as “7+7” they must then read the first number out and count on using dots to get the answer – this is a tricky concept but once they understand this – it will help them in the future.

Creative Art: Art Expo is just around the corner, and we have been completing our art pieces. This week we created cowboy boots. We can’t wait for you to see them!

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor played T-Ball with the Squad this week.

Cooking: Teacher Hayley made “tree pizza’s” using dough, tomato paste, cheese and chicken viennas. We hope you all enjoyed it.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Happy Monday!

We would like to welcome everyone back from a much deserved break. We look forward to a busy but fun Term 3!

The last two weeks we learnt all about Spring, Plants and Trees.

The Hoppers liked to learn how spring brings blossoms to the trees. They enjoyed learning that a bud turns into a blossom, which in turn becomes fruit. The importance of trees, and all the amazing things trees can provide us. We observed what in our environment is made from wood.

For art we decorated our handmade paper, it was so fun to see how we can reuse paper into such a beautiful new piece. We did some paper plate sponging and went on a nature walk to collect sticks. We made a blossom tree by printing with bubble wrap and used the sticks we collected to finish off this amazing piece of art.

As a life skill, we learnt to grate. It was so refreshing to smell and taste the freshly grated lemons! All the Hoppers did so well with this life skill.

The Hoppers enjoyed a song for Yoga that got them standing up straight, balancing on one leg and working on their warrior 1 and 2 pose. We practiced our bear, snake and candle breathing techniques. Finishing off with a simple sequence of: tree, cat, cow and dog poses. What a fun class!

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend with the weather becoming hotter after a cold week. Enjoy the wonderful colours and smells the new season brings us.

Spring and Flowers

 Welcome Spring… Finally!

We had so much fun learning about Spring last week. We spoke about what happens during spring time; flowers blooming, the grass starts to go green again, leaves start showing on the trees and most importantly, the weather starts to get warmer! Yay!

We also spoke about having respect for plants, flowers and trees. We learned that we are not allowed to break or damaged a tree, and that we can only pick flowers if we are going to use them for something.

“Spring, a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can be.” Spring is all about new beginnings and changes. Spring brings new growth, weed out the bad and make room for something beautiful. Let’s all make it our Spring time goals, after such a challenging year, to make some changes, get rid of the bad in our lives to make space for beautiful things!

Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper

WOW!!! What a week we have had! We are so proud of all of our Bugs for doing so well with photographs! Uncle Tiago and Teacher Gemma (who was assisting with the photos) were blown away at how brave you all were, and how well you smiled!

We had a great week learning about trees plants, wood and paper and all the amazing things that can be done with them. We learned that trees are wood, and that wood is then used to make the paper that we create all of our beautiful art work on. We reinforced last week’s lesson about respecting nature and the beautiful world we have been given!

For art this week and last, we made the most beautiful blossom trees using our fingerprints. We made awesome recycled flowers using the bottom of a bottle dipped in paint for the petals, straws for the stems and beads for the center.

We also made a collaborative piece, “Busy Bugs friendship tree”. Each Bugs got their hand painted, told us who their best friends are and made their mark for their friends.

We hope you are all super excited and getting in touch with your creative sides for our amazing hat parade! We can’t wait to see the incredible creations!

Just a reminder to please send in cereal boxes!

Spring Blog: Our First Week of School

Our first week back was short but oh-so-exciting! We welcomed some sweet new friends into the Playful Pups classroom, and they’re already fitting in so wonderfully. It’s the best feeling to see all of our little Pups happy, thriving, and growing every day!

For our first art project, we made the most adorable see-through butterflies! We used laminating paper and colorful tissue paper, tearing them into tiny pieces and sticking them together. They’re so cute that Teacher Monette just had to keep them hanging on our classroom windows for everyone to admire—because they’re way too precious to send home just yet! He-he! 🦋

We also took a fun little trip down memory lane, refreshing our skills by practicing our colors and shapes. The Pups did an amazing job remembering them all!

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect start to the season! 💕🌸

Trees and Plants Blog: week 2

This week’s theme was all about trees and plants, and the Pups were so amazed to learn about all the different kinds of trees and how they grow! 🌳 When we talked about what plants need to grow, my clever Pups already guessed I was going to say water! He-he! They were all so excited to share what they knew.

For art, we made our own little trees by using our handprints as the tree trunks and rolling tiny tissue paper balls to create beautiful blossoms. The Pups weren’t too thrilled about rolling all those little tissue balls—ha-ha!—but the trees turned out *so* cute and colorful. 🌸

We also had lots of fun with our FunFit sports, doing gross motor activities, and oh my, these Pups are strong! 💪 They have such steady hands and impressive coordination.

We’re also hard at work on our Art Expo projects, and I’m *so* excited for you all to see the amazing creations we’ve been working on throughout the year! 🎨 It’s going to be pawsome!

Happy Monday!

Welcome back to Term 3! How time has flown that we are already in our last term of the year !

We have waited for this theme for months now!  As we started our term off with a super joyful and exciting ring time , we spoke about spring , and all the beautiful things that come with it . We also spoke about the order of the seasons , and what each one entails.

We enjoyed discussing our interesting colour of the week , and our shape which the kids enjoyed learning about. We also revised our phonic sounds and letters and well as our months of the year too.

Even though we’ve had a 3 day week , we made the best of the days we’ve had to talk about our theme..

ART

Our art activity for this week , is something small and special , that each family gets to take home and watch grow .

Each child was given a small container with an egg carton in as well as soil , they had to plant 2 sunflower seeds in , and water it to take home. PARENTS ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO PLEASE KEEP THESE PLANTS VERY MOIST AND WET

We also enjoyed some fun worksheets , we had to really explore our creative side as we had a free drawing of what we did in the holidays , we had to do a body image drawing too , as well as practicing and revising our number formation 1-20.

It was the perfect way to start off our 3rd term.

HEART MATTERS

Teacher Hela started heart matters off in an amazing way , she focused on the topic of givers and takers , and she did an amazing job teaching the children the difference and explaining that you should feel better in your heart being giver and not a taker.

The kids enjoyed colouring in hearts and giving them to someone they felt deserved the hearts.

Please remember that photos will be taken next week.

The Curious Crew really enjoyed this theme , they really loved part taking in ring time , learning about plants , trees and paper.

We took the time during ring time to explain how paper comes from trees , and why it’s so important to look after the trees that we have.

We spoke about the different plants we get , and we also discussed our favourite plants . Throughout the week too , we spoke about our sunflowers at home , and just how important it is to water our little seeds.

ART

For Art this week , we did some fun and simple activities that really got our creative juices flowing

We did a symmetry worksheet , where each child had to copy the leave as they saw the other side , they then had to colour it in aswell. Boy everyone’s colouring is improving so much ! Well done curious crew.

We also did a perceptual activity , where each child was given a worksheet with different leaves on , once they’ve coloured it in, they had to cut them out and place them with their matching sides. Everyone did so well in this activity.

We also enjoyed some fun worksheets , where we had to trace our names , and practice our numbers 11-20, it seemed like everyone just enjoyed this way too much !!

HEART MATTERS*

Teacher Hela took the time and focused on when we have a low self esteem, she helped the kids understand this , and also practiced ways and methods on dealing with this. It was a very practical way to get the kiddos to understand how to cope.

YOGA

Yoga Day!!

This week we did bilateral tracing patterns, which aid in hand-eye coordination and small motor movements.

The yogis traced a mirrored pattern using their left and right index fingers simultaneously.

Coordinating both sides of the body shows that both sides of the brain are communicating and sharing information with each other.

This activity can also be used as a calming breath technique.

Teacher Yoga was so impressed with how well our yogis did with the activity!! Well done, my super stars.

Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely holiday. All our Hoppers look so grown up, and we have all had a fantastic first week back. This year is just flying by.

We eased into the week with theme discussions, holiday news and classroom dancing as we embraced the chilly mornings at the start of the week.

On Wednesday, we had a busy day with building puzzles and working on our art activity in the morning. For our theme this week, we made flowers in a vase. The flowers were made from cardboard circles, which we painted and wrapped with wool; stems were made of sticks and green ribbon, and the vase is old spray paint lids filled with sand.  These came out beautiful, and we are keeping them for the art expo.

For our letter of the week, we read Vicky Violet and the vet and all the different words that begin with the letter “V.” we had so much fun and had some exciting words like violin, van, vet, and, of course, that we need to take all our vitamins.

We learnt about Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper for our second week back. We spoke about what a tree looks like, and it has roots, a trunk and branches with leaves. We also learnt that trees are very good for our world and we must look after them. They give us oxygen and help us to breathe.

On Wednesday, we went on a nature walk and collected leaves, sticks and lots of bark for a very cool class piece and made a nature tree. We cut a tree out of a big piece of paper and stuck sticky tape behind it. We then stuck all the bits of nature we found on our nature walk. This was so much fun, and we loved how our nature tree came out.

We were very enthusiastic and tried to make our own recycled paper. It turns out that making your paper is not so easy J. We just ended up with a paper mush…hahah! The hopers loved ripping the shredded paper and adding the water. This became more of a sensory activity as the paper mush was quite cool to feel and put our hands through.

We had a very busy week with photos and are so proud of all our Hoppers. They all smiled so nicely and cannot wait to see the photos.

It has been a great two weeks into term 3, and we are all ready for a jam-packed and exciting term.

Our theme next week is Countries and Cultures.

Have a safe and lovely weekend.

We had a very busyand exciting week! Spring is definitely in the air and we are having to strip down children of all the layers by playtime! What a wonderful time of the year. This week was all about spring and flowers and we chatted about the warmer weather and what happens when it gets warm! The sun rises earlier so we don’t have to wake up in the dark! We don’t have to wear so much clothing to school or else we will get too hot! The sun shines down on us and we have to start wearing sun hats. It is time for lots of water and sunscreen. When the warmer weather comes, the rain also comes! Rain is very good for the Earth and we need it so that the plants grow. We start seeing little blossoms and tiny green leaves on the plants and trees and that means it is definitely spring! The most wonderful season! The bees start buzzing around and pollinating the flowers so in summer time we can have yummy fruit! The Pups went on a wonderful nature walk om our very first day back at school. We found all sorts of sticks, dry grass bark and twigs. We were looking up the big tree at the far end of the plot and saw some beautiful birds that the Pups found extremely fascinating. What a blessing it is to be able to walk around and enjoy nature when nature is your theme!

In order to understand the moral theme of the week, we sang our school song a lot as it talks all about how much we love nature and the plants and trees, and how we never step on bugs because we are the children of EcoKids! In this way we learned about respecting nature. Our children know that when we find a bug or a spider, a frog or even a snake, we let it go so it can go home to it’s mommy and daddy. Also, it is important to teach our Pups that plants in the garden are growing! And alive! So if you want to pick a flower or two, that’s okay, but we don’t need to pull off leaves or pick all the flowers because plants belong in nature!    What made this week even more special was that we had three new little Pups start their school journey with us and we have been so happy to welcome them! Little Conner, Colton and Hunter M. Welcome to the EcoKids family!

For our art activity this short week we used tennis balls to do some stamping onto a flower which the Pups absolutely enjoyed. There were a couple of Pups that decided it would be fun to through the tennis balls full of paint at their friends instead of stamping paint onto their flower. This was so much fun and there was paint everywhere. So much fun! As always, please keep nails short and label all items coming to school. A lot of children have the same water bottles so please label your child’s bottle in a distinctive way and show them how you have done it so they know which one is theirs.

Next week’s theme: Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper

Photograph week! It was quiet a challenging time to get our small little Pups to smile and see all the lights and the big camera. Overall they were so brave and I cant wait to see their beautiful photographs.

For our art we made a tall tree using a paper towel roll for the trunk and a piece of cardboard for branches. The Pups loved painting this with their friends.

On Friday we did a short obstacle course in the Pups garden which included climbing over and under obstacles and throwing tennis balls into a bin. They all just loved this so much.

Well done to all our little Pups for being so amazing and helping with our new smaller little Pups.

Have a beautiful weekend!

Term 3 – Week 1

Welcome back everyone to a very busy but fun-filled third term. We couldn’t wait to get the ball rolling and start working with our kiddies that we missed so much. It was a short week but we managed to get tons done.

Writing and Phonics: On Tuesday we recapped our sight words and were pleased to see that the children practiced over their holiday. Well done everyone! We also added two new sight words, ‘to’ and ‘do’ – reiterating the ‘o’ sound with these two. Lastly, we wrote sentences using our CVC words.

Maths: On Thursday we recapped counting to 30 and back. Could we please ask that this is revised at home especially counting backwards – it could be a fun driving to school activity. We also discussed 3D shapes and the concepts ‘sides, corners, and faces’ of a 3D shape. They then had to complete a worksheet where they the kiddies had to correctly cut and paste the 3D shapes in the correct spot. They did well with this and needed little assistance.

Life Skills: Respecting nature and our bodies is a fundamental moral to have in life. If we treat others how we would like to be treated, then we will be happy. This is what we chatted about during the week – we also sang our school song and went over recycling rules.

Art: On Wednesday we had a lovely visit from Teacher Katy, and she discussed some lovely musical concepts with the children, they really enjoy it when she visits. We have also been working hard on our art pieces for the Art Expo and we completed two projects for our Book of Me. We cannot wait for it all to come together.

Term 3 – Week 2

Writing and Phonics: We matched our new ‘e’ family words to the correct picture. We also introduced two new sight words, ‘so’ and ‘go’. The Squad wrote sentences using the ‘ed’ words and we cannot believe how everyone’s handwriting is improving.

Maths: The kiddies completed a worksheet with addition to 10. In order to fill in the missing number they had to count the number of bees, for example, 6+ (number of bees) = 10. They also completed a worksheet which focused on counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We noticed that they still need some practice with this concept so we will be working through this.

Life Skills: For this very important moral conscious theme, we explained to the Squad that honesty is the best policy, and we need to speak the truth. If we lie, they build up and then we cannot keep up with all the lies, so we get caught out.

Art: We had so much fun with our art this week, we made dragon eggs using salt dough and newspaper. We also made an abstract art piece that assisted with fine motor skills, the children used ear buds to dot their flowers onto a tree. They came out so beautiful that we decided to keep them for Art Expo.

It has been a great week.

See you all next week.

Term 3. Week 1

Welcome back to Term 3 Parents and HAPPY Spring, this warm weather and to see all the new green life is so lovely!

We have had a lovely full week in the Curious Crew class. We started off our week with a colour by numbers Spring worksheet. The Crew have truly impressed us with how well they ‘read’ their numbers and colours as well as the beautiful colouring in they did. They have grown and matured so much over this holiday.

On our first day back we went on a nature walk to collect some goodies for a pretty Spring ornament, which we will be saving for the art expo (20th of October-Save the date!) but it will be worth the wait!

We will be concentrating harder than ever on the alphabet this term as well as getting the Crew to write their names on their own. We were super impressed with the name writing activity we did, not only are the Crew getting better with tracing over their names but when they write it on their own, they are showing great improvement.

For numeracy this week, the Crew did a symmetry worksheet where they had to draw the other side of a tree and then they were instructed to draw 10 apples on their tree. It was an interesting activity which challenged them. Great work Crew!

We did a super cool activity on the carpet. The kiddies had their white boards in one hand and a marker in the other. I asked the Crew to draw shapes, numbers 1-10 and to write their names. They loved this activity and did so well!

Letter Challenge is still underway, don’t give up now! We just have a couple of weeks left!

AND this weekend we introduced the PUZZLE CHALLENGE! All details will be sent on the Curious Crew group. It’s exciting and fun!

Gerry is still doing his rounds in the Curious Crew class, let us know if there are any special weekends you would like Gerry.

Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper

Another successful week in the Curious Crew class! This week we have been super busy with a few different projects and activities. We are getting creative as we prepare for our annual Art Expo, such excitement! As well as working on some very important skills.

Ringtime is one of my favourite class activities! So much learning is done during ringtime and doing it all together encourages everyone to listen as well as learn from each other. This week we introduced counting in 2’s (from 2-10) and we counted in odd numbers (from1-9). Using a number chart, pointing to the numbers we grasped these new concepts. Please try this at home and see how well your child does.

We did quite a complex worksheet this week that had a few different steps for the Crew to follow as well as different skill sets used to complete this task. It makes me so proud to see how far these little people have come since the beginning of the year. They were able to sit for the duration of the activity without getting tired AND the outcome was great! I’m such a proud teacher!

Each week we will be completing fun activities to help the Crew learn their letters. This week during ringtime we went around in the circle and each child has to tell us what the first letter of their name was, almost every child got this correct. YAY! Another fun activity we did: Holding up an alphabet chart, I called up the Crew one by one and I chose a random letter for them to recognise, this was a little more difficult but I was so happy to see the confidence each Crew member had when coming up and finding the letter.

This will be the last week our Letter Challenge books will go out. We have finally come to the end of our fun learning Letter Challenge exercises. Please continue with fun games and talking to your child about letters in general conversation. The best kind of learning is incidental learning. Get creative with this parents.

We apologise for no art for another week but with Art Expo around the corner, we want to really put on a show with many displays of their beautiful artwork.

Lately we have been struggling with some rough play and the children not keeping their hands to themselves. The children know that our number one rule in the class is ‘Keep your hands to yourself!’ If you could please reiterate this at home, especially before school. It just helps to avoid unnecessary fights and unhappy kids.

Congratulations on your first week of the puzzle challenge!! Keep going! Once the kids see a climbing graph it motivates them to get out those puzzles and build. With this little challenge it is so interesting to see what it brings out, some thrive to win and become quite competitive where others refuse point blank to touch a puzzle. All the best parents and don’t forget to update puzzle pieces on the Google Doc.

For our second week back we learnt about Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper. We spoke about what a tree looks like, it has roots, a trunk and branches with leaves. We also learnt that trees are very good for our world and we need to look after them, they give us oxygen and help up to breathe.

On Wednesday we went on a nature walk and collected leaves, sticks and lots of bark for a very cool piece we are working on for art expo, we are getting so excited for this lovely evening! We also measured the length of a tree. In order to do this, you need to stand in front of a tree with your back towards the tree, bend over and look through your legs, move forward until you can see the top of the tree through your legs. The distance from where you stopped moving to the tree is the length of the tree.

We had a very busy week with photos and we are so proud of all our Hoppers, they all smiled so nicely and we cannot wait to see the photos!

It has been a great two week back into term 3, and we are all ready for a  very busy and exciting term.

Our theme when we return will be: Countries and Cultures

Have a safe and lovely weekend.
