What do you buy when you go to the shops?  Milk, sweeties, honey, chippies, clothes, toys and much, much more! These were just a few of the answers we got from our Bugs when we asked them that question, they were very happy to share their entire shopping lists with us and which shops Mommy and Daddy like to shop at.

We spoke about different types of shops and what items you can buy in each of them. Grocery shops sell food and everything we need for the house. Clothes shops sell clothes for the whole family. Furniture shops sell beds, couches, and tables for the house and so many more.

We showed the Bugs the different logos from our more common shops in Benoni, and we are proud to say that they knew what every shop was!

For this week’s art, our Bugs made their own Eco wallets and purses, so that they could put their pretend money in, which they used for our EcoShopping activity to buy all their items with. We also colored in play-play money.

Thank you to all of our Busy Bugs parents for supporting this activity by bringing items for our Ecokids shop. Our Bugs had so much fun doing their shopping and whatever they could get their hands on, they put in their trolleys and baskets.

We hope they enjoy all their little goodies.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Writing and Phonics: The Squad have been introduced to two new word families (“ut” and “ub”). We have been focusing on, some letters are small, some are tall and some fall. This helps with knowing where to place our letters, in the head, tummy or tail. Letter formation is essential and further enforced in Grade 1, however setting a strong foundation in Grade R is always a good start.

Mathematics: The Squad have been adding and subtracting to 20 using concrete apparatus. They have even been trying to without counters and we are so proud of them.

Creative Art: This week the children designed purses/wallets to use for shops and shopping day which was on Wednesday. They were absolutely excited to take part in this annual event and they were buzzing afterwards because they were all chuffed with the items that they picked.

FunFit Sports: This week the Squad played a boys vs girls game that involved running and an obstacle course. It is so lovely to see how determined they are to win and how their competitive sides come out.

Yoga: We listened to a yoga story about kindness, how to be kind to each other by saying please and thank you. Also, by other acts of kindness. We practiced a few poses whilst listening to dolphin and ocean sounds. Our poses for the day; dog, cat, mouse, lion, cow, eagle, butterfly, turtle, dolphin and camel.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Our long-awaited Market Day has been the highlight of our week. It’s all that the Crew can talk about. This makes my heart so happy seeing the joy our Market Day has brought the Crew.

Our week has been filled with many different activities and games. We have started with some Christmas art as we want to make sure our Christmas boxes are overflowing with the Christmas spirit. And they are not just any Christmas art, there are many different skills used to make these creations.

Each day we practice the alphabet, going over the name, sound and Jolly Phonics of each letter. During our daily story time after break, I ask the Crew to tell me what letter certain things start with, and we are also working on our rhyming words.

For our themed art, the Crew were tasked with cutting out pictures in magazines, pictures that caught their eye, things they would like to buy. The Crew also coloured in and cut out some money. It was so funny to see how they lit up getting ’money’ LOL. So cute! Each Curious Crew also got to make their own credit card and swipe it at the machine during their shopping activity. They loved their purses so much they wanted to use them at the market day. Job well done Crew!

At yoga this week the Crew listened to a yoga story about kindness. How to be kind to each other by saying and doing kind things. They also practiced a few poses whilst listening to dolphin and ocean sounds.

Next week we will have our Curious Crew outing to celebrate all the hard work that went into the Crews Market Day. Please make sure to send your indemnity forms back as soon as possible.

This week was all about shopping, something all our Happy Hoppers enjoy!

They are so aware of all the logos displayed to them and named them with such confidence. When talking about money, we had a bit of a chuckle as most of them said that their parents only use cards. So adorable!

The Hoppers had so much fun going for their shopping on Thursday. Thank you to all the parents for the wonderful goodies that was sent. They were all so excited to choose and use their wallets that they made.

For art, The Happy Hoppers started on their Christmas crafts. They are all so excited that we are getting closer to the festive season. We are sure that everyone will enjoy their beautiful creations.

FunFit sports was so much fun this week. The Hoppers were true to their name by starting off by doing vertical tyre jumps. The ended their session with a 100m dash. Wow the Happy Hoppers really showcased how fast they run. We are so proud of how much they have progressed this year!

For Yoga, this week The Happy Hoppers listened to a yoga story about kindness. How to be kind to each other by saying and doing kind things. We practised a few poses whilst listening to dolphin and ocean sounds. Our poses of the day were: dog, cat, mouse, cow, lion, eagle, butterfly, turtle, and camel.

We are looking forward to our outing on Monday! The Happy Hoppers are going to have so much fun. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

This week was all about *shopping*, and it’s safe to say the Pups were absolutely thrilled! We kicked off by chatting about different types of things we find in shops—from groceries to toys to clothes—and the Pups eagerly shared whether they enjoy going shopping or not. They were all bursting with excitement, and it was clear that many of them were little shopping pros already!

For our art activity, we worked on listening and following instructions. Each Pup received a picture filled with all sorts of toys, and we named specific ones for them to colour in. The goal was to focus on listening carefully and choosing the correct items—and they did a fantastic job! The concentration and pride in their faces as they found each item and coloured it in were so special.

Then came the highlight of the week: our own little “shopping spree.” We set up a pretend store, and the Pups each had a mini trolley to push around, filling it with various items just like they would in a real shop. Watching them toddle around with their tiny trolleys, carefully choosing their “purchases,” was simply adorable. They even had their pretend cards ready, and some of them knew exactly how to tap their cards  at the “checkout” with so much confidence—it was too cute for words!

In addition to our shopping fun, we spent some time exploring the outdoors and had a little adventure searching for the baby bunnies under the Eco Babes house. The Pups understood that they needed to be quiet and gentle for the bunnies to feel comfortable coming out, and their anticipation was priceless. As soon as the bunnies peeked out from under the house, their eyes widened with joy, and the entire group lit up with excitement.

To end the week with even more fun, we had a bubble play session, which is always a crowd favourite. The Pups absolutely love chasing the bubbles, and it was delightful to see how they instinctively knew to “pop, pop, pop” them with their little fingers—and sometimes even their tongues, he he! Their giggles and happy squeals filled the air as they danced around, reaching for every bubble in sight.

I’m so proud of each and every one of them; it’s incredible to see how they’re growing in confidence, learning to listen, and showing such joy in every activity. This week was full of magical little moments, and I couldn’t be happier to watch these little ones explore, learn, and play with such enthusiasm!

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Curious Crew enjoyed this weeks theme .

It made very interesting theme discussions, we spoke about the different kind of shops we get , and we spoke about how shopping works , with money and how we need to pay for everything we want to purchase in the shops.

We also counted to our number of the week several times , mastering the task of stopping at number 18.

We also focused on our shape of the week quite a lot , as 3D shapes are still new to us , we ensured we made sure everyone understands the shape as well as being able to recognise the shape.

ART

For art this week , we had a few fun activities this week ;

We first made our very own triangular Prisms , this was one way of understanding and being able to identify a triangular prism

We had a task where we had trolleys , and we had to cut out groceries and paste them onto the  trolleys.

We also created our very own Market day posters for everyone’s stalls for our Curious Crew market day everyone did a super job in showing off their items they’ll be selling .

FUNFIT SPORTS

This week with coach Trevor , we had a fun time , where he tested everyone’s ball skills. We had to dribble through cones , aim for a target and give our biggest of kicks.

Thank you to everyone for their amazing efforts for the Market Day ! The kids had one heck of a blast ! What a success!

 Have a wonderful weekend!

What an exciting week we had!

We started the week talking about the different shops and what we can buy at the shops. We then went around, and each Hopper told us where Mommy or Daddy liked to shop. We got all different answers… Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Spar, Checkers, the toy shop and even a dress-up shop…Haha!

For our art, we coloured in some money, made coins out of bottle lids and coloured in our names for our very fancy wallets and purses we made with our very own shopping list inside. For the shopping list, the hoppers cut out shop items from newspapers. They did a fantastic job!

Cooking this week was theory-based; we told our hoppers we wanted to bake a cake, and they had to tell us what ingredients to buy at the shop. They all knew the essential ingredients to bake a cake; most wanted vanilla cake, and a few wanted chocolate…yummy!

This is one of our Hoppers’ favourite themes. They could not wait for Thursday to go “shopping”.  This was a great opportunity to show our children the value of money. We had a very busy day, and they thoroughly enjoyed their shopping. When there are so many cool things to “buy”, it can become difficult for a young child to choose. Our Hoppers were told that their “eco money” could only buy 5 items. They therefore had to choose carefully and had to compromise on other items that they may have also wanted. The Hoppers had a successful shopping experience.

We did a lot of shop role-play to prepare ourselves for our shopping experience and Curious Crew’s Market Day on Friday. We learned about different shop names, what we can buy from them, groceries, furniture, and toys. A shop where you can buy meat and poultry is called a butchery, and the person behind the counter is called a Butcher.

For Yoga this week, we did a yoga story called “Going on a Dragon Hunt”. It works as a listening, sequencing, and memory game. We listened to the instructions and then demonstrated all the various poses, actions and breathing in the story. At the end, I asked the kids questions to see what they remembered. Our poses included a tree, boat, bridge, cow, frog, mouse, and lion.

Fun fit sport, coach Trevor did more fun and exciting gross motor assessments with the hoppers, and they are doing well with their gross motor skills.

It has been a great week. We are excited about our Monday outing to the Bird and Monkey Park! J

Our theme for the next week will be: Cooking and food

Have a safe and lovely weekend.

Moral conscious theme: Being judgemental (Don’t judge a book by its cover).

We explained to the Squad that everyone is different, you should never be mean or judge another person for how they look or why they do the things they do, always treat others with kindness.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad did a worksheet on the “ub” and “ap” family, they had to match the correct words with the pictures followed by using their “cats” to write full sentences using these words.

Mathematics: The Squad practiced counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as counting backwards from 30. They thoroughly enjoyed the shopping experience where they bought items from their friends. They even used trolleys and had to out their “pin” in the card machine – hehe it was so cute!

Creative Art: The Squad drew their own shops and added items to their shop to sell. They then made their own wallets and purses as well as their own fake money and coins that they used for their awesome shopping day experience – They then cut out items from magazines which they would like to buy and put them in their wallets and purses.

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor is currently assessing the Squad for their reports.

What an exciting week we had!

We started off the week by making our own wallets and purses for our shopping day. The children drew pictures on a coloured piece of paper, we then folded the paper in a wallet or purse. We just love our these came out!

Wednesday was our BIG day out, we had so much fun the Bird and Monkey park. We were so excited to see all the animals, their favourite animal to see was the tiger. We also got to feed the bunnies and Guinee pigs, the Hoppers all had a giggle watching Teacher Kate-Lynn trying to catch a Guinee pig, luckily I was able to catch one for them to love! Hahaha!

This is one of our Hoppers’ favourite themes. They could not wait for Thursday to go “shopping”.  This was a great opportunity to show our children the value of money. We started the week off with listening to each other’s fun weekend news with broad discussions as well as introduced this week’s theme, “Shops and Shopping”. We spoke about different kinds of shopping malls, things we can buy and learnt basic concepts like money, price and change as well as activities like buying and shopping.

Phonics and Writing

We did revision this week on some of the English we have done throughout the year, such as sight words, letter sounds and recognition, patterns, sequencing as well as blending CVC words.

Maths:

We did tons of revision this week. We continued to practice counting from 1-30 as well as count backwards from 30 – 1.  We also did a lot of practical learning to develop math’s skills using concrete objects and fun math’s games. The Squad had a fun shopping experience.

Life Skills:

With focusing on our moral conscious theme: “Being judgmental”, we explained to the Squad that it is okay to be different and talk about the differences they observe however, they must speak with kindness and must not judge others based on race, speech, and clothing.  Everyone is unique and special in their own way; we need to have compassion.

 Afrikaans:

For Afrikaans we did a recap of colours, numbers, body parts and simple greetings.

Dear beautiful parents,

Our long awaited Market Day has been the highlight of our week. It’s all that the Crew could talk about. This makes my heart so happy … seeing the joy, our Market Day has brought the Crew.

This week we wrapped up our Puzzle Challenge with a little awards ceremony. As the Crew sat in anticipation for their certificates, one by one I called them up and the response from the Crew for each child was heart-warming to see. They cheered each other on, clapping and jumping for joy for their friends. Very well done to our top 5, thank you for all your hard work!

Our week has been filled with many different activities and games. We have started with some Christmas art as want to make sure our Christmas boxes over flow with the Christmas spirit. And they are not just any Christmas art, there are many different skills used to make these creations.

Working on perceptual skills is one of my favourite activities to do with the Crew. I love getting them thinking. We did dot work, where they had to copy a dotted pattern and we made it fun with paint and ear buds. Each child is different with how they go about dotting the other side and seeing how they go about it. Some children didn’t dot, they dragged the ear bud in the shape of the pattern, so interesting to observe.

Each day we practice the alphabet, going over the name, sound and Jolly Phonics of each letter. We gave each child a white board and went over each letter of the Alphabet. The Crew first had to recognise which letter I was holding up and I would explain how to write the letter. The Crew love working on white boards and the proof is in the pictures. What lovely letter formation they did! Beaming teachers! Take a look at how well they did…

For our ‘Gift of Giving’ charity drive, the Crew are working together to decorate bags that the gifts will go in. We have some beautiful free paintings, sprinkled with glitter to give it that extra special Christmas sparkle.

I hope you all got your Triangular-prisms made by the Curious Crew. They have really loved making these 3D shapes and it has helped them understand and recognise 3D shapes more easily.

For our themed art, the Crew were tasked with cutting out pictures in magazines, pictures that caught their eye, things they would like to buy. The Crew also coloured in and cut out some money. It was so funny to see how they lit up getting ’money’ LOL. So cute! They loved their purses so much they would like to use it at market day. Job well done.

At yoga this week the Crew did a story “Going on a dragon hunt”. It worked as a listening, sequencing and memory game. We listened to the instructions then demonstrated all the various poses, actions and breathing in the story. At the end the kids were asked questions to see what the remembered. The poses included: tree, boat, bridge, cow, frog, mouse and lion. I hope you enjoyed the little video sent on the group.

Next week we will have our Curious Crew outing to celebrate all the hard work that went into the Crews Market Day. Details and indemnity form to follow…
