We started off this short week with an exciting theme: Occupations and people who help us. We spoke about what the word occupation means as well as what different types of occupations there are. We also spoke about occupations where people help us and the way in which they help us. We spoke about what we would like to be when we grow up and the reasons why we would like to have that specific occupation. We also discussed who the essential workers are during the pandemic. We discussed which people were essential workers and why their jobs are so important.

Writing and Phonics: This week we recapped on all the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. We played a phonics game where the children had to pick an object from a box and identify the beginning sound of the object. The children then had to place the object on the correct letter. They then completed a beginning sound worksheet where they had to identify the beginning sound of the picture and colour in the correct corresponding letters. We practiced writing the capital letters of the alphabet in our books and on a worksheet. We are very proud of how beautiful the Squad’s letter formation is progressing.

Mathematics: This week we recapped on the sequence of numbers and identified which number comes next. We introduced simple subtraction using concrete objects and went over our letter identification. We also practiced counting in 2,s 5,s and 10,s.

Life Skills: Moral conscious theme: “Being a hero.” We spoke about the meaning of being a young hero and ways in which we could all be “hero’s” in our day to day lives. Being a hero doesn’t only mean we fight “bad guys”. A hero is also kind, thoughtful and helpful.

Creative Art: We started off by completing a “what I’d like to be when I grow up” worksheet. The children had to write what they would like to be when they grow up and then drew a detailed picture about their chosen career. They really went into detail with this activity and we were so impressed! Their pictures came out amazing! We also did a fire fighter progressive art piece that turned out so lovely and we will be keeping it for the art expo.

It has been a great week.

Sight words: look, at, me, in, here, it, is, I, she, he, play, on, in, the.

See you all next week.

Next week’s theme: Construction.

This week we learnt all about occupations and what the Hoppers want to be when they grow up. We had lots of discussions about all the different kinds of occupations and what kinds of jobs their moms and dads do!

After our discussion, each child created an occupation toilet roll puppet of what they would like to be when they grow up. We have very bright and ambitious children in our class, who no doubt have a bright future ahead of them! These puppets were so cute that we just had to keep them for our Art Expo!

For our second activity we investigated a couple of X-rays on the light table and learnt about what an x-ray is, “a picture of our bones”.

We put our Hoppers fine motor, spatial perception and eye-hand coordination skills to the test this week with a threading activity! To create our letter of the week, we gave our children two bone shaped paper cut outs to make an ‘x’ for their X-rays. We punched some holes around their x-rays and our children had to thread wool in and out of them. Threading is quite a tricky activity but our kiddies did so well! We will keep practicing this skill.

Due to the public holiday falling on Monday, we missed FunFit Sport and Music this week. Which is why we incorporated many dancing activities during class to shake those sillies out and to be sure we activated those gross motor muscles!

Today, for Show and Tell, we had a dress up day of what our Hoppers want to be when they grow up.  They looked so adorable!

Next week’s theme: Construction, Buildings and Factories

Have a safe and lovely weekend!

Fun in the Kitchen ...

For cooking this week, Chef Buso took the Hoppers on a tour of the kitchen. They learnt about kitchen safety precautions and hygiene, how to use the gas oven and stove, how the chefs dish up and pack their snack and lunch onto the trollies and also about all the different kinds of kitchen utensils and their uses. For the tour, the kiddies got to dress up in a hair net and an apron, this was super exciting for them!

Hello everybody! This week our Pups had a short but interesting week learning about occupations. There are so many of them so we chose a few to discuss and explain in class. We spoke about Teachers and told the Pups that a teacher works in a classroom and teaches young children in school. We discussed Doctors who work in doctors’ rooms and hospitals and help sick people feel better. We spoke about a nurse – that they help doctors and that they also work in hospitals. A dentist helps us to keep our teeth in good health. Remember to brush your teeth little Pups! As we said there are so many different occupations and they are all equally important.

We watched a short video clip on YouTube about what I want to be when I grow up. This was a super cute clip!

We tried to ask the Pups want they want to be when they are big and we managed to get a few answers – one of our Pups said she wants to be a mommy … hehe so sweet!

We read a couple of books like: What Jobs Could You Do, by Catherine Barr and: What Do People Do All Day, by Richard Scarry.

For our art activities we made police cars which is very cute and the Pups had a lot of fun painting them. It’s so funny to see the kiddies reactions when some of them get paint on themselves – some of them really don’t mind at all, and others look really concerned and say “Ooh ooh” with sweet little expressions on their faces!

Have a beautiful and blessed weekend.

Next weeks theme is:  Construction, Buildings and Factories

Teacher Cecelia's Favourite Quotes ...

1. You are the artist of your own life. Don’t hand the brush to anybody else.

2. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is GREAT WORK and the only way to do GREAT work is to LOVE what you do.

This week has been filled with so much excitement!

The Crew returned and had so much to say about their long weekend. We love hearing what they get up to!

We completed a worksheet that was a three-part activity. It allowed the children to really use the left and right sides of their little brain. First they had to colour a picture in, then they cut it out along the lines (as closely as they could) and lastly they had to build their puzzle/picture again by sticking it all together.

We were really proud of the Crew this week – they have grown immensely! During ring time we discussed all the different types of jobs that we get. Teacher Clarissa taught the Crew about the BIG word ‘occupations’. – Ask your child what the word ‘occupations’ means? This week’s theme was a real hit with all the children, they absolutely loved the topic of conversation.

For art this week the girls made their own little nail salon where they had to paint nails – they loved this! The boys enjoyed making a laptop, they coloured in the keys of their name for letter recognition. They all had so much fun!

Home Tip: Work through counting from 0-10 with your little one. In class we really try to get them to STOP on the specific number so that they learn to follow instructions. By the end of the week they really conquered this!

Little Imaginations!

The teachers loved listening to what jobs the parents do …

It is always such a treat to be able to hear and listen to children’s plans for the future… they always have the most open minds and innocent thoughts and ideas and when you listen close enough, they may just alter the way you think about and process life and its decisions.

And this is exactly what we did this week!  We sat down to ask our Bugs who and what they wanted to be when they grow up, and the answers we got were priceless! From Pilots to Princesses, Vets to Teachers, Firemen to Policemen, and Mommies and Daddies too. We discussed EVERYTHING!!  From what the different occupations do during the day, to what they wear to work, the different protection needed for different jobs and how different people help our everyday lives.

Friday dress-up day was so much fun! Thank you for dressing so beautifully Bugs!  You little people are such a huge inspiration to your teachers and we can’t wait to see how your future turns out and what you really grow up to be!

For our art piece this week, the Bugs got to choose between being a policeman or a fireman and then painted a paper cup either blue or red and coloured in the corresponding badges for those professions. We put that all together and made the most adorable siren hats that our Bugs just loved to wear, making siren noises at the same time!

Just a reminder of our Sports Day on Saturday the 9th of April. Busy Bugs must please wear something Green. We have been “training” very hard with Coach Brad every Tuesday and our sports skills are really shaping up!

Have a lovely weekend!
