“Cos’ we are flying in an airplane, looking out the window, watching the clouds go by. Flying in an airplane, looking out the window, up so very high!”

This week we learned all about the places you can go for a holiday, and how we get there. We spoke about bush holidays, beach holidays and overseas holidays, what we can see when we go to these places and the different ways we can get there. There are local places you can go that are nice and close like Haarties, Sun City, the Kruger or the Vaal, these are place that we drive to. Then there are places that are a little bit further away but can still be reached by car (or airplane) like Durban and Cape Town, and then there are the places that you have to take an airplane to, these places are very far and are mostly in other countries like Disney World, Paris and so many more.

We asked all of the Bugs if they knew which type of car their Mommy’s and Daddy’s drove and were very impressed to hear that most of them not only new if it was “a big car or small car” but also what make and model they are! We asked them who usually drove the car when they went on holiday and most of them answered “Daddy.” We then spoke about airplanes and if any of our Bugs have ever been on an airplane before. Most of them answered yes, but of course we weren’t 100% sure. We spoke about the man or lady who flies the airplane and learned that they are called the Pilot and the people who help us find our seats, bring us food and keep us safe are called flight attendants.

We also discussed what items we take on holiday. A suitcase filled with clothes, our toothbrush and toothpaste and of course, a camera to take lots of awesome pictures to show everyone.

Which brings us to our art this week. Our Bugs coloured in cameras and then went on a nature walk to “take photos” of everything they could see. We then “printed” these photos by asking them what type of holiday is their favourite and used magazines to find pictures of those types of holidays and cut them out to stick under their camera. The Bugs had so much fun doing this activity and it was also an amazing fine motor skill builder for them.

Thank you to everyone who sent items for show and tell, we loved seeing all of the exciting things your Bugs brought to share.

We hope you all have a lovely, relaxed weekend and we look forward to seeing all of our Bugs at school next week.

IB Principle: Risk Takers – We explained to the Squad that being a risk taker is like being a brave adventurer! It means trying new things, even if they might not work out. When you take risks, you learn and grow, and sometimes you discover amazing things about yourself and the world around you. Imagine if you never tried riding a bike or swimming because you were afraid of falling or getting wet? You would miss out on so much fun! Taking risks helps you build confidence, make new friends, and find new passions. It’s okay to make mistakes – that’s how we learn! So, don’t be afraid to take a chance, try something new, and see where it takes you. You might just discover something amazing!

Writing and Phonics: This week, the Squad completed their last handwriting and worksheets for the year. They focused on the ‘ub’ and ‘ut’ word families. The Squad demonstrated their understanding by matching the words to corresponding pictures, making use of their ‘sounds buttons’ and then writing sentences in their workbooks applying the “cat” method. It’s impressive to see how their handwriting skills have improved, with noticeable advancements in letter formation and finger spacing. They’re also showing a great understanding of word structure such as placing them in the correct part of the “cats”. Keep up the excellent work, squad!

Mathematics: This week we practiced counting in multiples of 2, 5, and 10, as well as counting backwards from 30-0. Squad also completed a worksheet where they had completed a data handling worksheet by counting the amount of shapes and colouring in the correct amount of blocks.

Creative Art: The Squad put their creative minds to work this week and have been working hard on some lovely Christmas art to take home.

This week was full of adventure and learning about holidays and traveling.

We had some fun discussions and role-play activities about traveling. The Happy Hoppers used their imagination to go in a Holiday with an aeroplane. We re-enacted how to book our tickets, pack our bags, drive to the airport, and check in with our tickets. Lastly, we had a fun fly around with our arms stretched out wide! It truly was so much fun watching the children emerge themselves into the activity.

The Hoppers enjoyed some gross motor activities by throwing and catching a ball. Its impressive how well they have advanced during the year. You are all superstars!

We have started our 12 days before Christmas. The kids did a wonderful job painting our Christmas tree and creating all their Christmas art. Thank you to all the Hoppers who have donated, keep up the good work.

All the teachers in the Happy Hopper class wishes you a wonderful weekend, let us give the last stretch our all!

Dear Parents,

First and foremost, I want to congratulate each and every one for an amazing Market Day! We raised R5 632 WOW!!! This is amazing!  We are going to have a blast at our outing in celebration of this successful market day.

As we approach the holidays it was very interesting to hear where all the Crew would like to go. There was Scotland, Cape Town, the Bird and Monkey Park, Durban, Kenya, South America, the Kruger, and a few kids want to go to Sun City. I think the Crew are more than ready for their December holidays.

This week The Crew renewed their passports. Each one got a special passport and the opportunity to stamp them with all sorts of different pictures. They came out so cute! We even decided as a class to use our passports for our outing on Friday.

Learning the alphabet is still one of our top priorities. This week we practiced writing our letters and we are continuing to sing our Jolly Phonics whenever we get the chance. The Crew really shine when doing these activities.

We have been working on our Christmas art this week and The Crew are beyond excited to share these special pieces with their parents. I love hearing the stories that come up during these activities of the different traditions each family has over Christmas time. It seems that Elf on the Shelf is the most awaited visitor!

Teacher Lexi made some banana and apple planes with The Crew this week for cooking. They practiced peeling their banana and spreading the jam with their own knife. I was very pleased to see how far their skills have progressed throughout the year.

Next week’s theme is Christmas, and I am just as excited as The Crew to get into Christmas spirit! Let’s make these last few days extra special and extra magical!

Weekly Update: Travel Adventures with the Playful Pups

This week, we embarked on an exciting travel-themed journey, exploring different holiday destinations and dreaming about where we’d like to travel one day. We discussed the various ways we can get there—by car, train, or airplane—and shared stories of places we’d love to visit.

Creative Arts

For art, the Pups had the opportunity to express their travel preferences by painting the outline of their chosen mode of transport—a train or an airplane. They added their own imaginative touches to the artwork and then had fun mimicking the sounds and movements of the vehicles. Their enthusiasm was contagious as they chugged like trains and soared like airplanes!

Water Play

Midweek, we had a refreshing water play session where the Pups helped Teacher Monette clean all the classroom blocks using soap, water, and cloths. It was a delightful activity that combined teamwork with sensory play, and the Pups had as much fun as Teacher Monette did—lots of giggles all around!

Guessing Game: Animals Edition

We also enjoyed a lively guessing game. The Pups took turns pulling animals out of a box, identifying their colors, and making their corresponding sounds. Their ability to recall and imitate the animals was fantastic, and their enthusiasm made it a highlight of the week!

Yoga Yayness

Our yoga sessions focused on listening skills as we explored the sounds of 20 different animals. Each sound was matched with a corresponding pose, and while some sounds were a bit tricky, our little yogis rose to the challenge. Here’s a list of the poses we practiced:
🐵🐶🐱🦁🐯🐴🫏🐮🐷🐑🐪🐘🐁🐻🦃🐔🦅🦆🦉🐸🐬.

The Pups impressed me with their focus and effort—well done, little yogis!

Little Kickers Fun

This week in Little Kickers, we worked on hitting and catching skills using pool noodles and colorful balls. The Pups thoroughly enjoyed the activity, showing off their coordination and cheering each other on. It was a wonderful way to strengthen gross motor skills while having a blast!

Reminder

Please remember to bring your decorated Christmas boxes by next Wednesday. We can’t wait to see everyone’s creative designs!

I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable weekend. Thank you for making this week so much fun! 🌟

Moral conscious theme: Loyalty

We explained to the Squad that being loyal is to be committed to keeping promises. We need to stand up for the people we care about such as friends and family as well as showing love and respect to others even if you do not agree with them.

Writing and Phonics: This week we focused on recapping what we have learnt about this year. We went over our letters (names and sounds). We went over our sight words and blending sounds. Lastly, we played a rhyming game whereby we would say a word and we would see how many rhyming words we could match. They have truly blown us away with how far they have come and how much they have learnt!

Mathematics: We played a fun game during the week whereby the Squad were given a number that they needed to trace and remember – they would then be given a few other numbers, and they would need to remember which one was their first number. This game focuses on their memory. We also went over counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Creative Art: We have been in a jolly mood this week, creating lovely Christmas art. We made Christmas trees using recycled materials (egg cartons, cardboard, sticks and beads). The other art pieces are going to be a surprise.

Music and Cooking: This week we practiced for our Graduation. They truly stunned us with their performances, and we were filled with pride. Thank you for attending and we are going to be so sad to say goodbye to these Squad members, but we know that they are ready!

FunFit Sports: This week we played cricket with Coach Trevor; they learnt the correct way to hold a cricket bat and having hand-eye coordination. Well done!

This week in the Curious Crew class we had a blast discussing our best holiday memories. We spoke about the different ways we can travel as well as what is needed from us when entering a different country. We focused on our shape of the week too, which the class has done a phenomenal job in recognizing so great job there!! We sang our colour of the week song as well as counted to 19 and stopped.

Overall it was a very exciting and educational time during ring time this week in the Curious Crew.

ART

For art this week , we started doing some Christmas art. Which is hands down the best art we do all year. We know the parents are going to treasure these art pieces forever.

To go with our exciting theme, we made the cutest post cards. Each child has to draw their most fondest memory of a family holiday on the postcard. Once they has completed that they were tasked with writing (copying) an address onto the card and pasting a stamp on too. It was a hit, everyone gave this activity their all.

 FunFit Sports

This week coach Trevor took the time to complete his annual assessments with the children, he assessed all the important gross motor milestones. The kids still enjoyed the challenges that were set out for them.

YOGA

Yoga day!!

With the help of a basketball, we worked on our core strength and pelvic floor activation. It was a morning of Yoglates(yoga and pilates)

This theme got us thinking of warm seas, ocean breeze and holiday vibes, by the end of the week we were all itching to go on holiday!

During ring time we spoke about our favourite travel destinations. We also spoke about the 7 continents and named them. This is a tricky thing to understand but by the end of the week, the children started to get the idea.

We spoke about all the necessary things that we need to take on holiday.  We also explained the use of a passport. We created our own passports and did a role-play travel excursion. We told all the children that we were traveling from South Africa to Mauritius to visit the beautiful white beaches.  We then flew to Europe to visit Italy and Paris… so beautiful! After Paris, we then went to New Zealand to see the hot air balloon show in Waikato…so amazing! From there we landed in Australia to visit the Kangaroos and Koala Bears, then back to South Africa. We would need our passports to go out of South Africa and get into another country and we would have to wait in line to go through border control. Once we were through border control. In order to get to these places, we of course had to fly, so we all strapped in and “flew” around the school until we reached our destinations. The children loved this role-play activity and were able to understand why a passport is important.

We also worked on our fine motor skills and pencil grip by writing our own names in the passports and our cutting and pasting skills to make our suitcases, for the suitcases the children painted a folder, and we looked through magazines for pictures of things we would pack for holiday and pasted them onto our painted suitcases.

Our Hoppers have been working on their drawing skills this week, they drew holiday pictures on the back of their passports, we are so impressed with these hoppers drawing skills. Keep up the good work!

For FunFit sport these week, the hoppers worked on matching colours. There were green, red and blue tubs and the hoppers at to match the balls to the tubs and throw the ball into the tub, well done Hoppers you all did an amazing job!

Yoga this week, The Hoppers worked on their core strength and pelvic floor activation with the help of a basketball. The concentration on their faces was just too cute!

Friday was our picnic from around the world, thank you for all the treats, our Hoppers enjoyed every minute of our picnic.

Reminder: Please don’t forget to send Christmas boxes and USB’s for reports.

It has been a great week.

Our theme next week will be: Christmas

We learnt all about travelling and going on holiday.

We spoke about the most popular holiday places in South Africa, and a few overseas too. We learned about Sun City, Durban, Cape Town and camping sites. We studied pictures and spoke about adventures. A few Pups entertained us with their holiday stories. I also shared some photos with the Pups from my very recent holiday in Italy two weeks ago that I got to enjoy for my 50th birthday.

We named the items that we would need to take on holiday: sunglasses, sunblock, towels, clothes, umbrellas and everything in between. We pack all of this in our suitcase and bags. We fly to our destination by airplane, or we travel by road in our cars. We then used a free painting method to paint a large piece of paper, and then helped Teacher Cecilia fold it into an airplane so that we could throw it into the air and make it fly.

We also built a beach which is everyone’s favorite holiday destination! {This was our sandpit.} We pretended to be on holiday and after that we sat and ate ice-lollies which were so welcomed in this very hot weather.

On Friday we had Teacher Anita’s birthday and it was AMAZING! We decorated some plates with birthday messages and broke a few in a good Greek way of celebrating it was so amazing. Thank you to everyone who contributed towards spoiling our special Teacher Anita in the way she deserves to be spoilt!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and have a good rest before the excitement of the final 2 weeks of school!

For art this week , we did a follow the number aeroplane worksheet , that the kiddos had to colour , the kids put in so so so much effort and this was completed beautifully.

We also made our very own maps, we used this as a guided activity where the kids had to follow the simple instructions given to complete the map accordingly

FUNFIT SPORTS

This week we had our sports lessons with coach Trevor indoors because of the super chilly weather we had on Thursday. coach Trevor had the most amazing obstacles set up for the class.

This week we enjoyed our delicious baking Thursday ! We made cars out of finger biscuits and smarties , each child was over the moon excited to eat their yummy cars !!

Our focus on this activity was learning to spread icing with a knife and stuck small goodies on too.

Our Friday was filled with a super fun show and tell , where each child was just filled with so much excitement telling their friends about their cars and transports

We also ended our day off with sending Gerry home with our special lucky friend of the week …. Who will it be ??? ….

Writing and Phonics: This week we completed our new set of CVC family words: “an”. We completed a worksheet which required the children to use their sound buttons and sound out each word along with matching the correct image. We then wrote sentences in our thin lined books, and they did so wonderfully using the cat method. Keep it up!

Maths: Our mathematics lesson this week was focused on our 2D and 3D shapes. We had a discussion on the different shapes, where we can find objects with that same shape (in the shops, or in the classroom) and the properties of that shape. We are beginning to use terms such as vertices (for corners) and edges for (sides). Lastly, we drew 2D shapes and the Squad are coming along nicely.

Life Skills: “Risk Takers”- This week we discussed the different types of risks that we can take. That every day we are faced with risks but it is how we handle them that makes the situation good or bad.

Art: During art this week we made our very own cars. Firstly, we drew ourselves as if we were driving a vehicle and then we chose our very own wheels that we could stick on. It is adorable watching them get so creative by choosing different colour bottle lids or being precise and using all of the same size bottle caps.

Afrikaans: For Afrikaans we completed a comprehension about Ben die Hond.

Cooking & Music: For cooking this week, the squad made their very own healthy trucks using bread, oranges, cheese and banana. The children buttered their own bread and cut their own cheese. Working on their fine motor skills. Well done!

FunFit Sports: The children played an aiming game where they had to grab a ball and throw it into a bucket. The game increased by difficulty by the bucket moving further back each round. Well done!

It has been a great week. Assessments are in full swing so please could we ask that your child attend school every day.
