This theme got us thinking of warm seas, ocean breeze and holiday vibes, by the end of the week we were all itching to go on holiday!

During ring time we spoke about our favourite travel destinations. We also spoke about the 7 continents and named them. This is a tricky thing to understand but by the end of the week, the children started to get the idea.

We spoke about all the necessary things that we need to take on holiday.  We also explained the use of a passport. We created our own passports and did a role-play travel excursion. We told all the children that we were traveling from South Africa to Mauritius to visit the beautiful white beaches.  We then flew to Europe to visit Italy and Paris… so beautiful! After Paris, we then went to New Zealand to see the hot air balloon show in Waikato…so amazing! From there we landed in Australia to visit the Kangaroos and Koala Bears, then back to South Africa. We would need our passports to go out of South Africa and get into another country and we would have to wait in line to go through border control. Once we were through border control. In order to get to these places, we of course had to fly, so we all strapped in and “flew” around the school until we reached our destinations. The children loved this role-play activity and were able to understand why a passport is important.

We also worked on our fine motor skills and pencil grip by writing our own names in the passports and our cutting and pasting skills to make our suitcases, for the suitcases the children painted a folder, and we looked through magazines for pictures of things we would pack for holiday and pasted them onto our painted suitcases.

Our Hoppers have been working on their drawing skills this week, they drew holiday pictures on the back of their passports and pictures of whatever they liked on their suitcases, we are so impressed with these hoppers drawing skills. Keep up the good work!

It has been a great week.

Our theme next week will be: Christmas

Have a safe and lovely weekend.

What a busy week this was! However, the Squad enjoyed every single second of it! From visiting the BIG school for orientation day, to graduating and even going on an awesome Smart Squad only outing. We just know that they are more than ready for Stage 1!

Writing, Phonics & Maths: The Squad worked through their ‘depicta books’ which allows them to recap their letters and the corresponding formation. Whilst completing those, the children sounded out each letter and also drew a picture relating to that letter. Well done, Squad!

Life Skills: Loyalty is such an important moral theme to teach, we discussed being loyal to our friends and families. The Squad really understood this concept well.

Art: We have been continuing with our Christmas art but we also prepared the last minute Book of Me and the kiddies were so excited to help set-up for graduation. They are always more than willing to assist their teachers, thank you Squad!

FunFit Sports: During Funfit Sports, Coach Dave completed assessments on the Squad and we are sure that they did amazingly!

First and foremost I want to congratulate each and every one for an amazing Market Day! We raised R6, 600 WOW!!! This is amazing!  We are going to have a blast at our outing in celebration of this successful market day.

As we approach the holidays it was very interesting to hear when all the Crew would like to go. We had Scotland, Cape Town, the Bird and Monkey park, Durban, Kenya, South America, the Kurger, and a few kids want to go to Sun City. I think the Crew are ready for their December holidays now.

On Thursday it was Principal Anita’s birthday and we made a lovely card for her, were each child drew a picture of themselves and teacher Anita. It was beautiful and made us so proud.

The Crew renewed their passports (LOL!) And they drew, on film, all the pictures that they took while on holiday. They turned out so cute! WE worked as a class on this one, bouncing ideas back and forth. We sat as a class to draw and colour in.

Learning the alphabet is still one of top priorities. This week we practiced writing our letters on the white boards but we added in numbers 1-20. Can you believe it, these little ones are writing numbers 1-20 now! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone.

We have completed a few different perceptual activities recently but this week’s one is extra cute …  a little Reindeer and a 6 piece puzzle to challenge these clever little kiddies. Well done my Crew I’m so proud of your hard work.

The Crew had so much fun decorating plain brown bags for our charity drive. We free painted Christmas pictures and added the most important detail of all…GLITTER! I don’t know if you have noticed that every day the Crew are covered in glitter LOL it is their favourite!

Next week’s theme  Christmas and we are going to make sure it’s celebrated fully! Us teachers will be dressing up each day with Christmas accessories and Christmas clothing if you and your children would also like to. It has been an amazing year together and it needs to be celebrated so dress your child up each day too. Lets make these last few days extra special and extra magical.

Christmas is on the way and that means summer holidays, road trips, braai’s every day and spending all day out at the pool, or even better – at the BEACH! This week was all about holidays and travelling. We had fun learning about the different ways you can get to your holiday destination, like cars, airplanes and even trains! And we had even more fun talking about and hearing about all of the fantastic holiday destinations your Pups are expected to visit this December! I hope you are all prepared for the crocodiles and sharks, all the animals at the Kruger Park and the hours of “Baby Shark” and “Wheels on the Bus” you are going to get in the car on route to your holiday!

We are busily preparing for our end of the year routine – reports are coming in to be checked and with that comes assessments. Our Pups are observed closely all year long and we know them and their capabilities very well by now but this week, we dedicated a bit of time every day to double check some of their skills and knowledge. We also weighed and measured them for their reports.

For art this week we created our very own beach, we painted the background blue with water paint and we went to the sandpit to sprinkle on some sand for our beach. This was so much fun!!

It is so important for us to be real at Ecokids. Christmas is a fun and happy time and of course we should all spoil our kids with presents and be a little “extra” at this time of year, but it is really about so much more than that and we have a responsibility to teach our children how to appreciate the season, and how to give of themselves to the needy, as that is where the true joy of Christmas and giving can be found.

Have a wonderful weekend.
