The Squad have been absolutely fascinated by the “Under the Sea” theme! They have been learning about all sorts of amazing ocean creatures, like colourful fish, vibrant coral reefs, playful dolphins, gentle sea turtles, and majestic octopuses🐠🐳🌊.

We have also discussed why it’s super important to keep our oceans clean and protect these incredible creatures and their habitats🌎 💚.

IB Principle: Reflective – This week the Squad learnt all about completing a project and then being able to reflect on what they could have fixed or what they could have changed. This is an important lesson to learn as all things in our lives can be corrected and mistakes are how we learn.

Writing and Phonics: Over the past weeks the Squad focused on beginning and end sounds of words, as well as completed a worksheet on the “ub” family. They wrote sentences with these words in their workbooks using the cat method, we are so pleased with how well they are progressing with their handwriting, focusing on finger spacing and placing the letters in the correct part of the “cat”. They also decoded words using sound buttons in their Time2Read books. Great work Squad! We then recapped letter sounds, sight words and dividing words in syllables by clapping.

Mathematics: Over the past weeks, the squad practiced witing the numbers that come before and after up to 10. We also recapped writing the numbers 1-20, 3D and 2D shapes recognition, practiced counting in ordinal numbers (1st to 10th), counting to 30 and backwards, as well as in multiples of 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Creative Art: The Squad created transparent sparkly turtles, they added green glitter to an outline of a turtle and used tape to give it a transparent effect. You can stick them on windows and watch them shimmer in the sunlight. They were so chuffed with their beautiful masterpieces! We also worked hard on Art Expo Art, we hope you all enjoyed the wonderful evening.

Music: We are currently practicing graduation songs, and the squad is singing with all their heart. It is a bittersweet time of the year filled with excitement!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

There’s always something new and exciting to discover when exploring the world under the sea! 🌊

We learned that there are many different kinds of sharks — from Bullhead sharks to Lemon sharks — how fascinating is that! The children were captivated by facts about the coral reef and how each little piece of coral is actually a living animal. Together, these tiny creatures build the reef using pieces of bone from fish and other sea animals that have died.

We had a giggle learning that parrotfish eat the coral and then poop out what we know as sea sand! The children loved that fact. We also discussed how important it is to protect our oceans — the Crew learned that they may only collect shells and coral that have washed up on the beach, never take them directly from the sea. 🌍🐚

Over the past two weeks, we’ve been busy exploring the ocean and other fun sub-themes. We started our activities with some under the sea painting. The Crew painted outlines of different sea creatures and, once dry, coloured them in beautifully.

During story time, we focused on rhyming words. I would read a rhyming book, emphasising the first rhyming word, and the Crew had to guess the next one. At first, they were a little unsure, but they quickly caught on and impressed me with how well they recognised that rhyming words need to sound the same. They truly amaze me every year!

We also practised some sight words — these stay the same for now as they serve as an introduction.

For cooking this week, the Crew made pretzel stick wands for you moms and dads to take home at the art expo. We hope you enjoy them! The children learned how to melt chocolate safely by placing a bowl over hot water. Once melted, they each added sprinkles to decorate their magical creations. 🍫✨

🧘‍♀️ Mind Ninjas Fun!

This week we shook out all our jiggles and found our calm with some kids’ Qi Gong exercises! We moved like animals — the strong tiger and the happy dog wagging its tail 🐯🐶. We made a fire to warm our bodies 🔥 and stretched up tall like trees to pick cherries 🍒, boosting our immune systems and keeping ourselves healthy and strong.

We also stretched the muscles we use for writing and released extra energy before slowing down with Cloudy Hands  — gentle, flowing movements to calm our minds and bodies. We ended with deep breathing to feel centred and peaceful. It was such a fun and relaxing session! 😁

🌟 Curious Crew Yoga!

Our Under the Sea yoga adventure took us diving deep into the ocean. We even got chased by a big shark 🦈 but managed to hide by transforming ourselves into different sea creatures — a starfish, a fish 🐠, a dolphin 🐬, a whale 🐳, and a turtle 🐢!

We ended our session with quiet time and pufferfish breathing 🐡 to help us feel calm and refreshed.

Next week marks our final week of the Puzzle Challenge! The last graph will be shared on Friday along with certificates for everyone who participated and special recognition for our top three winners. 🧩🏅

We are so excited for the upcoming Art Expo — the children cannot wait to show you all the beautiful work they’ve created. I am incredibly proud of every single Curious Crew member and all they’ve achieved this year. 💙

What a fun two weeks we had learning all about the creatures under the sea. All with a well-deserved break in-between.

The Happy Hoppers were remarkably busy this week with all fine and gross motor activities. They did so well with their pencil control with the fun under the sea matching activity. They loved moving their body to the jelly fish song. For art we made two pieces the first one we made was a fish we used broken CD’s pieces to represent shiny fish scales and then painted the rest of the fish. The second art piece we made a beautiful jelly fish out of a paper plate which we coloured in and for the tentacles we threaded some ribbon.

For yoga, this week Our Under the Sea adventure took us diving to the bottom of the ocean. We got chased by a big shark🦈 but we were able to hide away from him by turning ourselves into various sea animals …. a starfish, fish 🐠, dolphin🐬, whale🐳and a turtle 🐢

Ending off with quiet time and pufferfish🐡 breath

(P.S. can you believe there are no starfish and turtle emojis?) 🤔

FunFit sports this week Coach Trevor continued with Assessments.

We are looking so forward to our amazing art show tonight please remember to join us as its going to be amazing evening.

We are looking forward to our outing on Monday! The Happy Hoppers are going to have so much fun. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

This week was such a fun-filled and productive week for our Busy Bugs! 🐞✨

We mainly focused on educational activities such as cutting, drawing, shapes, colours, and counting. The Bugs also worked hard on following instructions and showed great improvement in their concentration and fine motor skills. In between our lessons, we made sure to enjoy some free play, giving the Bugs time to explore, build friendships, and express themselves creatively.

We also worked on our assessments this week, and I’m so proud to say that every single Bug did an amazing job! 🌟 It’s hard to believe the year is almost over — time has truly flown by, and seeing how much each child has grown fills my heart with pride. 💛

For art, we had some free time and decided to start our special Christmas projects! 🎄✨ The Bugs were so excited, and we can’t wait to surprise you with their wonderful creations when the reports go out at the end of the year — so no peeking until then! 😉

In yoga, we celebrated Yoga Day in style! 🥳🤩
Our morning routine included:
🐞 Warm-up stretches
🐞 Yoga songs
🐞 Relaxing quiet time
🐞 Breathing exercises

Our yoga song for the week was “Clap It Right,” which focuses on stretching left and right — a great way to strengthen our oblique muscles while having fun! During our quiet relaxation time, we listened to the gentle sound of bubbles popping 🫧, which helped everyone feel calm and peaceful.

For FunFit Sports, we continued with our gross motor assessments, and oh boy — this is where our Bugs truly shine! 💪 They showed off their balance, coordination, and strength with big smiles on their faces. We are so proud of their progress and confidence!

🌊 Under the Ocean Adventures with the Playful Pups!

The past two weeks have been quite the whirlwind under the waves! Our Playful Pups have been exploring the mysterious depths of the ocean, discovering fascinating creatures, marvelling at colourful coral reefs, and learning a few          “fin-tastic” facts along the way. From stealthy sharks to clever octopuses, dazzling clownfish (yes, Finding Nemo made an appearance!), and lobsters with their impressive claws — our little ocean explorers have been completely hooked! 🦈🐙🐠

Between watching educational ocean clips and chatting about the wonders of sea life, the children’s imaginations have truly dived deep. Some are now quite convinced they could spot a jellyfish or two if they looked hard enough in the school’s water play tub!

Of course, our Under the Ocean adventures were happening alongside some very big happenings above sea level! These past two weeks have also been all about Art Expo fever adding final touches, painting, gluing, and glittering our way through Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole. The evening was a tremendous success — the creativity, colour, and effort displayed by every class was nothing short of spectacular. Hats off to our incredible teachers, assistants, and little artists who helped bring the magic to life! 🎨🐇💫

And as if that wasn’t enough excitement, we’ve also been busy with end-of-year assessments, preparing for our reports. It’s been a real mixed bag of activity, part ocean adventure, part art show, part paperwork!

We’re all looking forward to a calmer tide next week as we return to our normal rhythm, complete with our much-loved Monday Yoga with Teacher Nicole and FunFit Sports sessions. And of course, we’re gearing up for a very special event on the horizon, our mom’s and dad’s Yoga morning!

From ocean depths to rabbit holes, we’ve certainly been busy, but as always, the Playful Pups have handled it all with big smiles, curious minds, and a whole lot of heart. 💙🌊

Parrot fish eat the coral and poop out what we now know as sea sand, we had a good laugh at that fact! We also told the kiddies that they are only allowed to pick up shells and coral if it has been washed up on the beach and not pick it out of the sea. Something different we discussed, using your 5 senses while you are at the beach.

We have had two weeks of many activities and assessments exploring oceans and the other themes of the week. We started the week’s activities with a little under the sea colouring sheet and it was so awesome to see their imaginations runs wild. Even though we are hard at work with assessments, I have tried to make these activities fun for the Crew.

The Crew also got to see real shark eggs! How awesome. Each of the Crew will be bringing home a shark egg to keep.

We have also started name writing with the proper letter formation to grow on previous weeks lessons. This is very important for next year in Grade R! Please practice the SOUND of the letters at home as well as letter recognition putting emphasis on the sound.

During FFS last week the Crew had been doing assessments with Coach Trevor and WOW I am so impressed with how far the Crew has come over the course of the year. Keep up the hard work Crew!

At yoga with Teacher Nicole the Crew worked on picture and pose association using a variety of pictures ranging from animals to transport. They also practiced breathwork using numbers and they just LOVE their 3 minutes of relax time at the end of their lesson.

This was our last week of puzzle challenge, well done to all of our Crew! Certificates and prizes will go out next week to our top 3 Puzzle Challenge winners.

The Happy Hoppers was very busy this week with all fine and gross motor activities. They did so well with their pencil control with the fun under the sea activity. The amazement the showed when the saw how the salt lets the food colouring spread was so fun to watch.

We were so proud of the Hoppers showing patience with the tortoise race. And the great posture they displayed. The picked up the instructions of the activity very quickly and understood that slow and steady wins the race!

For yoga, this week The Happy Hoppers worked on picture and pose association once again. There were a variety of pictures with animals and transport. Some pictures have numbers 1-5; we did various breath work according to the number. The Hoppers matched or poses according to the pictures, lion, elephant, monkey, crocodile, motorcycle, train, dolphin, and eagle. We ended our session with 3 minutes of relaxing time.

We are looking forward Mommy/Daddy and Me Yoga next week … see you there!

This is definitely one of our favorite themes of the year!

We spoke about the different animals that live “under the sea”, as well as on the shore and were pleasantly surprised to learn just how much our Bugs know about sea creatures. We covered everything from the teeniest tiniest little organism all the way up to the largest mammal on earth! We spoke about sharks and covered quite a few of the different species of sharks including the Great White Shark, the Hammerhead Shark, the Whale Shark and the Tiger Shark, that they are cold blooded and eat other sea creatures. We spoke about whales, like the Blue Whale and the Killer Whale, we spoke about the blowhole and what they use it for, as well as what they eat. We learned that turtles come to the shore to lay their eggs and bury them in the sand, and that they have a hard shell on the back to protect them from predators such as sharks and killer whales. We learned that the proper names for “Nemo” and “Dory” are a clown fish and a blue tang. We learned that Seahorses wrap their tails around seaweed to hold on and that the daddy seahorse carries the babies in his tummy rather than the mommy seahorse! We learned about Crabs and what they use their shell and pincers for, Sea Anemone’s that have poisonous spikes to protect them and Starfish that can regrow their limbs if they happen to lose one.

We discussed the importance of marine conservation and why plastic is so dangerous for marine animals. We also got to play with our Ocean Sensory Table, which had blue fabric “water”, sand, shells, sands and plastic sea creatures in. The Bugs absolutely loved this activity and where so excited to go “hunting” for things on the table.

For art for this theme, we made the most scary and adorable sharks. We did this by painting scrap paper blue, cutting a half-oval shape out of newspaper, 4 options of mouth shapes and lots of little paper triangles. The Bugs got to stick everything on exactly where they wanted it to go and create their awesome sharks.

We also made a collaborative art piece for our amazing student teacher, Teboho’s, assignments. The Bugs each got a turn to paint a giant sheet of paper blue, they leafed through magazines to find pictures of sea creatures and cut them out, coloured in little sea creature pictures, sponge painted white for the clouds and dipped pieces of tissue paper into green paint to make seaweed. This piece was absolutely stunning!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, rest well and we will see you back next week for another exciting theme!

These past two weeks have been splash-tastic under the sea! The Pups surprised me with all they knew about sea animals—big and small, and so many colors! We had so much fun making art too, dipping corks in paint to create a spotty little starfish and fishy friends. The corks made the cutest little dots!

Of course, we had to sing our favorites, Baby Shark and the Jellyfish Song!  For Yoga, we practiced matching poses to picture cards of animals and different transport symbols—think lions, elephants, and even trains! Our morning tunes included Silly to Calm and Fly Like a Butterfly, which helped us start the day with big smiles.

Our group project was a hit! We painted together on a giant paper spread on the floor using paint rollers, and the Pups had the best time making big, colorful strokes.

We’ve been busy with assessments too, getting ready for report time, and I’m thrilled with everyone’s progress! Plus, potty training is coming along beautifully, and saying goodbye to bottles has been much easier than expected. I couldn’t be prouder of each and every Pup!

Wishing everyone a joyful weekend, and see you all on Monday!

What a full and fun two weeks we have had. This is such a wonderful theme to learn about especially for the EcoKids as this theme is close to what we represent. There is so much unnecessary trash and plastic that finds its way into our oceans every day and we need to all find a way to stop this problem as it is killing our marine life, polluting the waters and slowly killing our home. We focused a lot on our moral conscious theme this week of ocean environmental awareness. We sure hope the message has sunk in!

We spoke about all the animals we find in the oceans! We learnt about turtles and sea horses – did you know the daddy sea horse looks after all the babies? So interesting! We learnt about Clown fish (Nemo!) and Blue Tangs (Dori!) and about star fish. Sea snails, octopi and jelly fish! We learnt that jelly fish have quite a sting! And not to be scared to go swimming in the ocean because of sharks. Sharks are not monsters – they do not like to eat people! We learnt about seals and sea lions, whales, and crabs! What a lot to learn about! Some of these animals have stings or spikes, some have sharp teeth, and some have claws and pincers!  What a lot to learn about!

We made a lovely jelly fish with a paper plate and some ribbon and string, and the Pups really loved painting this art piece. Well done!

Have a wonderful and peaceful weekend! Next week is going to so much fun cooking and eating fun in our classroom! We will send things home as we make them.

We love our Oceans, and our Hopper’s do too.  Over the past two weeks, we learned and discussed many facts and concerns about our oceans.

Here are some “did you know facts” about our awesome oceans.

– The majority of life on earth is aquatic.

– Less than 5% of the planet’s oceans have been explored.

– The world’s longest mountain chain is underwater.

– Plastic is the most common pollutant found in our Oceans.

It is up to us to protect our oceans and the sea life that occupies our oceans. We are so proud of how much our Hoppers care about our planet, and they enjoyed the art activities we had planned.

What a fun, jam-packed two-week we have had with this theme.

We put our fine motor, visual perceptual and creative skills to the test with all the fun activities we did.

The Hoppers loved creating their jellyfish. They decorated a paper plate cut in half with finger painting. The hoppers then practised their fine motor skills, threading wool into punched holes to make the legs of the jellyfish and googly eyes to finish him off. They are super cute! For our next art activity, we created amazing shark sensory bottles. The children added some glitter, orbees, some seaweed (green material), water and a foam shark to a plastic bottle and shook it all up. Our Hoppers loved this activity and put their fine motor skills to the test by scooping the glitter and putting it into the bottle.

Assessments for year-end have been going well. We are so proud of all our Hoppers!

At FunFit Sports, Coach Trevor assessed the kiddos in different activities …  running, jumping, throwing and catching… The Hoppers did an amazing job in each activity. Well done!

At yoga this week, using the hands and feet cards, we focused on problem-solving. This activity stimulates the Prefrontal cortex part of the brain and the Anterior cingulate cortex, which manages potential solutions to the challenge. The object is similar to Twister. The highlight of today’s yoga class was that I had a hole in my sock! 🤣🧦

For cooking, we made delicious fish cupcakes. We decorated vanilla cupcakes with icing and then lay smarties on them to look like scales. Our Hoppers could not wait to gobble them all up J

Our theme next week will be Shops and Shopping.

Please can we have your 5 shopping items no later than Monday.

Have a safe and lovely Weekend.
