Moral conscious theme: Love Tanks – This week we spoke to the Squad about how important it is to use love words and not sandpaper words. We discussed how we are able to FILL our friends’ tanks instead of empty them because when we empty them, we are very sad. We also played a game where the Squad complimented each other.

Writing and Phonics: We went over our “J, K, L” letters (capital and lower-case) this included the Squad writing the letters with white board markers first and then writing the letters in their books. We encourage you to continue to practice writing using this method at home.

Mathematics: We went over our 3D shapes song on Thursday and then went through each of the shapes in detail. The squad had a worksheet to complete by matching the pictures and then we practiced counting in 10s. Keep it up!

Creative Art: This was a fun-filled week with both Valentines Day art and Emotions art. The children created their very own emotions CD by drawing and decorating with glitter. They were very creative with this and had so much fun! For Valentines Day – they created their own card “I love you to pieces” – very sweet!

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor and the Squad practiced for our annual Sports Day. We are getting very excited for this, and we cannot wait to show you what the Squad can do!

Music: We have been working on our melody and keeping with the beat (a four beat). We are very proud of how courageous the Squad are to stand up and sing impromptu songs.

Cooking: This week we created our very own pink cookies which were sent home. They were drizzled with chocolate and were scrumptious! Thank you, Squad!

It has been a great week!

Have a wonderful weekend!

We just LOVE this theme! Lol, well isn’t that ironic! At this age the Crew are more aware of the feelings that they have and what makes them feel certain ways. But it is still very important to help them manage these feelings and to help them understand that others have the same feeling as they do.

We had a few things going on in the Curious Crew class this week. We welcomed a new friend into the Curious Crew class, we had so many fun activities… where to start!

For our Valentine’s Day art piece we decided to make little love bugs. I’m sure you have noticed, almost each day the Crew have left school covered in glitter …  Our love bugs are just the cutest!

For our Valentine’s Day gift, what better than to make something cool… heart shaped soap! Taking the Crew in small groups, we melted down plain soap in the microwave. But you can’t make soap without making it smell nice. First letting the Crew have a smell and guess what fragrance they are smelling, most of them smelt lemon which was really close. We added the essential oil Tangerine. So once our soap was scented and melted down, the heart shape moulds were filled, everyone had a chance to decorate their soap with some glitter and it was just the best! Each Crew member couldn’t be more proud of the little soap they were a part of making.

Music and Movement this week is no surprise… DISCO ON THE DECK. What fun everyone had with our beautifully decorated deck, bubble blowing machine and awesome music (thank you Teacher Gemma or should I say DJ Gemma) LOL. All the children looked fabulous in their little oufits, what a wonderful time of the year filled with so much love and excitement.

When practicing this week’s shape, number and letter of the week, the Crew did some water painting on our outside steps. It’s important when teaching, to be practical and fun. Think out the box and remember Pinterest can be your best friend.

Another fun little activity the Crew did was a letter hunt. Teacher Tegan made hearts with all the letters of the alphabet on it. The Crew went around our outside playground to find all the letters and came back to match them with the alphabet letters displayed. Same same, matchy matchy LOL! This was a wonderful game to play and it might be fun for you to play at home. Remember to write small letters not capitals and make sure they are in the correct letter formation.

Mind Ninja’s this week was focused on ‘Bucket Filling’ and ‘Bucket Dipping.’ This concept is to teach children about their actions and how it can make others feel. We went over a few examples of situations that happened in class. These moments are great tools to use to teach. A situation they have just experienced is one of the best ways to use as an example. Bucket fillers make us feel loved and joyful. Bucket dippers make us feel sad or frustrated. I used examples like when the Crew arrive in the morning and greeting them with a big hug and a big smile fills my bucket full of love. When someone doesn’t share or hurts one another these are the things that dip a bucket. So lets be Bucket Fillers!

For Yoga this week the songs for the week incorporated core strength and exercises. ‘If you love yoga and you know it’ they did tree, warrior, lion and tortoise. ‘Sitting on the floor’ is a song about fun movements to do whilst sitting on the floor. Finishing off with some quiet time. Boy do the Crew love these yoga songs!

Cooking this week was done today and we made Heart Shaped little pizza’s this was such a lovely practical activity and food is always enjoyed more when it’s made by the Crew themselves.

Have a great love filled weekend everyone!

This week we spread the love with our theme “My Emotions,” especially with-it being Valentine’s Day on Wednesday!

Our Hoppers had a fun week speaking about love and why we love our mommies, daddies, our families, and friends and even our pets. We also spoke about our feelings and the different emotions we may feel from time to time. We coloured in happy, sad, and angry faces, which we made mood charts, these came out amazing and we encourage you to please use them at home, hang them up somewhere and let your Hoppers show you how they are feeling, this is a fantastic way for children to express their feelings.

On Wednesday we celebrated Valentine’s Day with our Valentine’s Disco. Our Hoppers had so much fun dancing and showing off their great dance moves!

Happy Hoppers Yoga Day on Friday was so much fun.

Our songs for the week:

🐰If You Love Yoga And You Know It (If You Are Happy And You Know It)  and we did tree, warrior, lion, and tortoise poses.

🐰Sitting On The Floor – which is a song about fun movements to do whilst sitting on the floor.

We finished off with quiet time

Our Hoppers just LOVE our songs 🎵

For our Art, this week we made a beautiful card and a special present for Valentines Day, the Hoppers put a lot of love and hard work into this activity.

Please remember not to send any toys to school from home.

Remember to label all belongings.

It has been a wonderful week filled with lots of love, laughs and happiness.

Next week our theme is Health Hygiene Manners and Etiquette.

Love is in the air!

This is always a very exciting theme and it’s always very well received. All of the children from the smallest Pups all the way up to our Smart Squad have so much fun with this theme and the teachers love all the enthusiasm!

Our week was spent full of fun activities and discussions. It is amazing how much these young children know about their emotions. They are such sensitive, intuitive and “connected” little humans! We discussed an array of emotions from Anger to Happiness. We had loads of fun practicing the facial expressions that go with these various emotions and had a good giggle at some of their “sad” and “angry” faces – which are too cute when they are “putting it on” … We also used all of the emoji faces (that are so familiar to children these days) and played all sorts of awesome matching games – we would put them on the carpet and then ask the children to find the “loving face” or the “bored face” etc… They were really very good at this!

The excitement this week was real, especially on Wednesday, when we had our annual Valentines Boogey on the deck! It was so beautiful to see how the children really embraced this. We had so much fun and the children really made us proud with their awesome dance moves. We have some natural Casanovas and some incredible dancers in this class!

Thank you for all of the sweet spoils we got! Our highlights were definitely watching how the children love each other, giving sweet little gifts and plenty of love and hugs!  I read somewhere this week, “If you want to really feel loved, work at a preschool on Valentine’s Day” – and this was so true.

For Art this week, we concentrated on making a special Valentine’s Day card for mommy and daddy. We made red handprints, added black spots all over to create the cutest little strawberries, because we love our parents “berry” much.

As a Valentines gift, we made beautiful Valentine’s photo frames by taking old CD cases and modge-podging torn up red, white and pink paper on the back (which we used our “pinchy fingers to tear) and posing for the cutest photo to stick inside.

Our moral conscience theme this week was “Love Tanks” – rather an obscure concept for our little people to understand all about keeping your love tank full to share with other people, by being kind and loving to yourself. We explained that giving love makes that person have extra love to give, it’s always a good idea to hug, give kisses and cuddles, and make people feel valued and cared for. They most certainly understood this!

Just a few more points to remember:

  • Please remember to cut nails on a weekly basis.
  • Please do not send toys from home with your child to school. We know how tempting it is when you can avoid a fight or tears by letting them bring their favourite toy to school, but they cause problems in class when other children want to play with these new toys and we have to take them away. We love encouraging children to share but when it is their toy and they have a strong sense of ownership over it, we can’t really expect them to share it, and then if it breaks, we really don’t want to have that situation happening. As from after mid-term break next week, we will no longer be allowing teddies/toys inside the classroom. If your Bugs requires one for sleeping time, they will be kept in their bags until then.
  • Please send children to school in suitable footwear for sport on Funfit Sport days- Tuesday. Please also put shorts on under any dresses – important!
  • Please label everything folks! Even just initials on the bottom of shoes and inside hoodies and tracksuit tops. We have had a few items mysteriously vanish and we can’t do anything if it’s not labelled!
  • Please remember “no juice allowed”. This encourages sharing of bottles and therefore, germs. We try our best to keep our kiddies germ free and this is very difficult if there is yummy juice that everyone wants to taste.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day and all things CHOCOLATE, we decided to check who has been reading the blog with a secret question. This week, the question is: Are you a Ferrero Rocher kind of person, or are you on Team Lindor Ball? Please post just your answer on the WhatsApp group with no other explanation, so we know that you read our blog! Haha! Teacher Gemma is Team Lindor ball, and Teacher Thandi and Teacher Michelle are firmly on the Ferrero Rocher side of the fence, but at the end of the day…. CHOCOLATE IS CHOCOLATE!

This is such a sweet theme. All the children give hugs all week and Wednesday was just so special – seeing them all in their pink, red and white outfits.

The Pups have been adorable this week, learning about the BIG emotions – HAPPY, SAD, EXCITED, ANGRY, SCARED. We spoke about each of these feelings and about situations when we would be likely to feel them. We sang “If you’re happy and you know it!” more times than we can say, making the faces as we went along. When we are sad in the song, we say “Oh no!” When we are angry, we stamp feet. When we are excited, we shout “HOORAYYYY!” We had a lot of fun making faces! These children are young but so perceptive – it is amazing to see how much they are learning.

For art this week we made you a beautiful Valentine’s Day card – we hope you love it! It was made with loads of love from your Pup to you. Then we made you some delicious cookies dipped in icing with sprinkles. This was a lot of fun and it kept the Pups and myself very busy. The kids made a paper plate heart with a bag full of washing soap on the inside and we also added some decorations for inside the bag, to make it all squishy and fun for the Pups to use!

Each week just gets more exciting, working with the Pups and seeing them try new things!

Have a stunning weekend, keep safe and see you next week!

For FunFit Sport this week, Coach Dave created a mini obstacle course for the Pups. With coach Dave’s watchful eye the children climbed up the jungle gym, crossed two bridges and then slid down the slides! Awesome job Pups!

Yoga Thursday this week the Pups did their warm up stretches and did an upper body and core strengthening activity. After that they did skateboard pulls. The benefits of this activity is to balance and control and to try noy fall off the skateboard. Working their core and back muscles by keeping their backs straight and their heads up, this has the same concept as tummy time. Well done Pups you did a great job!

This week in the Curious Crew class we focused a lot on discussing our emotions and finding the right way to handle certain ways that we are feeling.

We also spoke about what makes us feel angry and sad , and what makes us feel happy and loved , and it was so lovely hearing some of the responses.

Each day we practiced our jolly phonic songs and it made us so proud to hear the class identifying and singing along.

For art this week , we made the most beautiful valentines art , we experimented with red and white paint , mixing them together making a beautiful pink heart, we also made the cutest little heart envelopes , that have a little cute surprise in for everyone.

On Friday , we made very cute strawberry hearts ,we used this activity to practice our cutting skills , and we used pretzels as arms and legs, the class enjoyed this little activity so much!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

After two weeks of rain, the sun came out just in time for this theme. The sun was shining and love was in the air!  We love this theme and the children have been so excited for our much-awaited disco on the deck. We had a lot of fun making our Valentine’s Day art and had an absolute blast at the disco with our guest DJ.

Writing and Phonics:  This week we recapped our 3 letters from last week and then introduced the next three letters for the week. We introduced J,K and L. We spoke about objects that begin with those letters; we sang our phonics song and used left over clay to form these letters. We also played a game – blue vs red team, to see who could identify the letters and their sounds. We love the Squad’s enthusiasm to learn! For our handwriting lesson we did some finger warm up activities and then went over the correct formation of those letters on our white boards. Once the children had grasped the concept of the correct formation, we moved onto our writing books where the children traced those three letters using our writing cats.

Maths: During our maths lesson we recapped our numbers 1 – 20 and did a counting activity where the children had to point and count out objects up to 20. We then did a 20-block frame worksheet with paint and an ear bud. Each 20 frame had a number given above. The children had to count carefully and use the ear buds to place a dot of paint in each block based on the number that was given.

Art & Life Skills: We spoke about our emotions and the different types of emotions we can experience in a day. Emotions change constantly and we have to find the things that fill our love tanks and make us happy. Having said that, we also spoke about how each emotion we feel is valid.
For our Valentine’s Day art piece, we made love key rings. Each child was given clay and had to make our shape of the week using the clay. Once their hearts were dry they used their fine motor skills to thread beads onto gut. We attached the beads onto the heart and added a key ring. We also made a Valentine’s Day card. The children first coloured in and cut out an outline of an owl. They then traced over the words “Hoo loves you? Owl always love you” and traced over their hands to use as the wings for the owl.  The children worked very hard on their Valentine’s Day art and we are sure you are going to you love it!

It has been a great week.

Ah what a wonderful week we had learning about our emotions, love and Valentine’s Day. We had a very busy week as we had a student teacher (teacher Carla) visiting us. The children loved her and she had some lovely activities planned.

We started learning about all the kinds of emotions one can experience. The children had to search the classroom for hidden little faces that expressed each emotion. We read the story “Inside Out” which is a great lesson on emotions. The children were all tasked with making their own ‘emoji’ face. They had all kinds of expressions to choose from to make up their own unique feeling. While some were working on this, others were working on a “Brain Gym”. This activity really challenged them but we were very impressed with how they managed.

We started working on our Valentine’s Day art and crafts. A tricky task that they were given was to cut out little hearts to add to their Valentine’s Day card. This really challenged their fine motor and coordination skills. We are sure you are going to love their efforts 😊

Heart Matters was another great reinforcement on the importance of emotions this week. They learnt about the feeling of being scared and had to colour in particular things that scared them.

Cooking was a hit this week where they made eggs in toast with a heart shape cut out. They loved this fun activity with Chef Buso.

We continued to challenge the Crew this week by starting with our ‘class jobs’. Each child will be given the chance to have a little class job. They all love this and can’t wait to have a turn to be line leader, snack/lunch helper and plant waterer.

Have a wonderful weekend all!
