IB Principle: Communicators – We explained to the Squad the importance of communicating and expressing how they feel by using their words and that they must try their best to listen actively to others. We also explained that they need to make sure they are using the correct tone of voice and think about what they want to say to others before saying it as their words can sometimes hurt others.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad wrote their next 9 sight words using the cat method. We are so pleased with how well they are progressing with their handwriting and how they are using the correct pencil grip and pencil control. We also practiced our Time2Read programme where the children have been decoding words using the sound buttons.

Mathematics: This week we focused on the concept “before and after up to 10 and ordering numbers up to 10. The Squad did a worksheet where they had to put the numbers in the correct order by seeing which numbers come before and after.

Creative Art: For art this week the children made their own “pumpkin men” they added “clothing” and drew their faces on the pumpkins as well as added arms and legs. They enjoyed this art activity and were impressed with their creations.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

This week in the Curious Crew class, assessments are still in full swing! All assessment work will be sent home in the Crews portfolio when their reports go out on break up day for Mid-Term break.

This week in ring time, we discussed the difference between fruits and vegetables. We discussed that a fruit comes from a flower that dies and a fruit will start to grow when the flower died. Fruit also have pips whereas vegetables don’t. So here are some interesting facts, a lot of the foods we call vegetables are actually fruitsAll ‘vegetables’ with seeds are actually fruits! And these vegetables have been classified as vegetables by the culinary world, your chefs, because these fruits are not sweet like all the fruits we know.

We did two lovely activities this week! The first we a little garden made from egg cartons. The Crew coloured in their little barns and planted kidney beans in some cotton to grow. They made their own little farms.

The second activity was a guided drawing of a farm. This activity worked on a few different skills. Following instructions is such an important aspect of our Curious Crew year! Spatial awareness also plays a role in this activity and last but not least the importance of fine motor skills and drawing. They came out beautifully! I was super proud of the work the Crew did in this guided drawing.

In Fun Fit Sports this week we did assessment work, setting up different exercises for the Crew to complete.

For cooking this week, we got some small ice-cream cones and they were put together with yoghurt and fruit! This was a delicious light and sweet snack the Curious Crew enjoyed so much. Yum Yum!

Concert practice is in full swing where we sing songs wherever we find a gap. It was so rewarding when the Crew started singing one of our songs randomly while we were in ring time and the way they had the tune right and the words. It made out teacher hearts very happy in that special moment. Let’s keep up that great spirit!

Just a reminder parents to please buy concert clothes, the due date in drawing nearer.

Wow another week that has just flown by so quickly. We learnt all about farm produce. What an important fruit and vegetable s are and how they are grown and looked after on the farm. The Hoppers were quite surprised to learn how much work goes into looking after the fruit and vegetables on the farm.

We told the Hoppers that it is super important to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. We heard a lot of stories about what their favourite fruit and vegetables are. For art, this week we did some tearing and sticking of an apple which is so important to strengthen their finger muscles.

Cooking we concentrated on the skill on stirring we made some delicious strawberry Nesquick milkshakes. The Hoppers just loved this, and it was so cute to see their milky moustaches.

At yoga, this week we worked on picture and pose association. There were a variety of pictures with animals and numbers. We matched our poses according to the pictures according to the number of breaths according to the numbers on the picture. We also listened to a new song called “I am a mountain tall and strong.

At FunFit Sports with coach Trevor with carried on with our assessments. The Hoppers had to practise hopping on one leg and standing on one leg for more than 2 seconds. We also practised catching a bouncing ball and throwing a ball overhand.

PLEASE can we ask that you label all water bottles as we don’t always know whose bottle is whose when we are outside as there are so many kids all together.

Remember to give your Hoppers lots of Vitamins and NOT to send sick kids to school.

Have a wonderful weekend!

This week has brought chilly mornings, but that has not stopped our Bugs from enjoying their days to the MAX! We had a jam packed week learning all about The Farm: Fruit and Vegetables!

This is a theme close to our hearts at EcoKids as it is everything we stand for and believe in. Healthy kids and healthy food.

Our Bugs had so much fun discussing the different fruits and veggies and we were very surprised at how many different fruits and veggies our Bugs actually know including the less common ones like Kiwi, Cherries, Cauliflower and Spring Onion. When we asked our Bugs if they enjoyed fruits, we had a very collective YES!!! When we asked if our Bugs enjoyed vegetables… well, not so much! Haha!

We also got to discuss what the differences were between fruits and vegetables. Fruits usually grow on trees or vines, and veggies usually grow on or in the ground. As well as that fruits are better to eat raw and veggies are better to eat cooked, although technically you can eat them any way you choose.

For Art this week, the Bugs did a free drawing, still-life of Fruits. Teacher Gemma held up the different fruits and the Bugs had to draw their interpretation of it.

We also made the cutest group art piece, by stamping our handprints and adding leaves to make a fruit page and vegetable page.

Have a lovely weekend, keep warm and we will see you all next week.

Oh, what a delightful week we’ve had learning about fruits and vegetables! The Pups were absolutely thrilled! During free play, we had a blast washing the fruits and veggies while chatting about why it’s so important to clean them before eating or cooking them. The little ones were so engaged and curious!

For art this week, we made adorable watermelons out of paper plates. The Pups worked on their fine motor skills and did such a fantastic job. Most of them knew exactly what we were making and could identify all the colours perfectly. It made my heart swell with pride!

We also put a lot of effort into our art expo pieces. The Pups are working so hard to make everything look just right for our mommies and daddies. This art expo is going to be a hit for sure!

And, of course, we practiced our concert songs throughout the week. The Pups are bursting with excitement to show off their moves and sing their hearts out!

It’s been a week filled with joy, creativity, and so much love. I couldn’t be prouder of our little ones!

Peace Out Folks!

Writing and Phonics: This week we completed our new set of CVC family words: “at”. The children are getting the hang of sounding these words out using the sound button method. We encourage you to assist your child when completing their weekly homework, it is important for them to sound the letters out one by one and then read the word out. As well as write them out using the cat method independently without tracing. They can do it! Keep it up Squad.

Maths: Our mathematics lesson this week was focused on addition. The Squad had to circle how many items in each group and then add them altogether to get the answer. We also focused on writing the number ‘9’ the correct way around.

Life Skills: “Decision Makers”- This week we recapped over what it means to be a decision maker and how important it is to be able to have an opinion. Often, we are indecisive, and we are too scared to let our voice be heard. We then went on to discuss that we have freedom of speech, and we can say what we feel, and we should not be scared to do so. Making decisions even if they are the wrong ones – help us to grow and learn from those mistakes.

Art: During art this week we drew a still-life, the Squad looked at a fruit basket and the drew the basket at the angle that they viewed the basket. We had a lot of fun with this, and the children tried to be very precise with their fruit. Well done guys!

Afrikaans: For Afrikaans we went over prepositions (voorsetsels), we also went over colours, counting to twenty and body parts.

Cooking & Music: For cooking this week, we peeled our very own sweet potatoes so that we could add them to our chicken nugget dish. How delicious! Music this week was concert based – we are also learning some moves with the songs.

It has been a great week. Assessments are in full swing so please could we ask that your child attend school every day.

See you at Sports Day tomorrow!

The Pups had another great week at school playing, learning and having fun!

This week we learnt about The Farm – Fruits and Vegetables. The Pups got to taste all different kinds of fruit. We played: Guess what this fruit and veg is? And to our surprise our Pups did so well, they could name mostly everything; from the simple names such as apples, grapes, potato to the more difficult such as spinach and broccoli, well done Pups! This is an awesome game to play with your Pup at home, while you are cooking up a storm!

We also spoke about how our fruit and vegetables grow with seeds, soil, water and love!

For art this week, we did some fruit and vegetable stamping. They are just too ADORABLE and we know they are trying their best. We also did some string painting which a good fine motor skill

We concentrated a lot on concert practice this week, listening to and learning our songs.

It’s getting much cooler here and we can definitely feel the icy air here at Ecokids and with Winter being here, along with it comes all the sickies. We are doing whatever we can to teach our Pups that they need to cough in their elbows, not lick their toys and to wash hands as often as possible so that we don’t spread germs! Our Pups are still so tiny so they are the first ones to catch anything flying around in the air which is out of our control. We just need to help them fight against it and let their bodies immune system fight against the germs. Thank you all for keeping your babies at home and sticking to our sick policy, we appreciate it and it helps us fight the spreading of germs. We hope all our Pups who were at home this week are recovering nicely and that they are ready to be back at school next week, we’ve missed them so much!

We are still finding that a lot of clothing hasn’t been labelled, please, PLEASE label everything as we can’t always keep track of who wore what! Items that are not labelled will be put into the lost property box.

We hope you and our Pups have a lovely weekend, keep warm and we will see you back at school on Monday.

Theme discussions this week in the Curious crew consisted of discussion the difference between fruits and vegetables, we watched videos on this discovering that fruits come from the flower of the plant and vegetables come from the root. We focused on counting to 15 and stopping , this has become so easy for the class , they have been enjoying the challenge. We took some time to focus on our alphabet, practicing the name and the sound of the letters.

During morning ring we practiced our concert songs as well as war cry’s for our upcoming sports day !

For art this week , we did a still life painting , each child had a turn to sit and look at the basket of fruit and paint what they saw. The end result of these art pieces were nothing short of amazing ! We were very proud of our very Arty and creative Curious crew kiddies.

We also did a fun activity where the children had to copy a picture that was out on the board for them , we call this guided drawing , and this was a fun challenge that the class tackled like champs !!

These pictures came out so amazing , the class tried so hard.

We did fun little worksheets too , the one was based on our shape of the week ; circle , the worksheet had circles on it , and their job was to create things out of the circles eg ; ball , apple , sun , flower etc.

The worksheet was based on our number 15; their job was to draw only 15 apples on the tree and then complete the colouring of the picture.

FUNFIT SPORTS

This week we focused on our races that will be in our upcoming sports day tomorrow , we tackled balancing , obstacle courses and so much more Overall it was a very energetic and super busy sports lesson !

HEART MATTERS

This week in heart matters , teacher Hela focused on us being in control of our actions and behaviour , we did a fun little activity where teacher Hela would call out a scenario and if it was a bad scenario you had to shout “hold your horses” emphasising that you need to control what you feel and what you do.

Reminder : Tomorrow is our SPORTS DAY !

May everyone have a blessed weekend.

Dear Hopper Parents

This week we learnt about fruits and vegetables on the farm. What a great theme in encouraging our little ones to eat healthily, especially with winter around the corner! We started this week off with a theme discussion about fruits and vegetables; we spoke about our favourite fruits and vegetables as well as the difference between them.

This week our kiddies made a progressive art piece of a Fruit and Vegetable Farm. First they sponge painted a beautiful blue sky with clouds and then glued on some soil, which they had collected on their nature walk! For their fruit and veggies, they used their handprints and fingers to paint such unique fruit and veg shapes!

in Cooking Class with Chef Nombuso, the children put their cooking and artistic skills to the test when they made a delicious fruit and veggie caterpillar, using strawberries for the head, cucumber slices for the body, carrot sticks for the legs and green beans for the grass!

It has been a very busy week with assessments, building puzzles, counting and reassessing.

Remember to dose up your little ones with extra vitamins, it is getting a lot colder out there!
