Who knows what a group of giraffe is called? Let us know on the class WhatsApp group!

Another happy week of learning and discovery has left us feeling fulfilled, tired and ready for a weekend! This week has been full of roaring lions and stomping elephants! Our children simply LOVE this theme and know so much about it! Well done, Busy Bugs!

We spent every day having very intense and long ring times, discussing animals from all over Africa and other wild animals from around the world such as tigers and kangaroos! We learnt so many cool and fun facts about these animals and the children were hanging on to our every word! It is amazing to watch their little faces while they are engaged with a topic that really excites them! Too sweet to see! We listened to the sounds these animals make, thanks to the wonder of technology, and watched many little video clips of them! It has taken some effort this week to remind them that they are indeed little people and not really monkeys and lions! Haha! What a special time.

For art this week, we made the cutest recycled Pringle tin Giraffe hand puppets. The Bugs got to stick little pieces of paper that they used their fine motor skills to tear up onto the Pringle tins. They painted cut up egg cartons and paper cups to make the head and horns of the Giraffe. We then took a walk to find a tall tree to “feed” our Giraffes. The Bugs thought this was hilarious and loved every second of it!

We also did a messy play sensory activity using cooked spaghetti coloured with food colouring, feeling it, squishing, smelling it and even tasting it, before we laid it around a drawn lion face to make his mane!

The weather is really getting cold now that we are truly into winter, but most days after playing in the warm sun at playtime, the children are warm. So please opt for layers when dressing your child in the morning as opposed to overly thick jackets that hinder movement and tend to get lost. We are also noticing a lot of snotty noses. Please keep the vitamin intake and nose spray going so we can keep the winter germs at bay, and please keep any sick Bugs at home until they have been given the all clear from a doctor.

Have a wonderful weekend and keep safe, warm and happy until Monday!

This week was eventful and full of wonderful moments. The Squad even had the chance to go on a tractor ride! They were buzzing with excitement and could not stop talking about how bumpy it was. So much fun! We are busy completing assessments and will be doing so over the next three weeks. Please could we ask that your child is only absent if they are sick because we complete these assessment activities throughout the school day. We thank you in advance. The concert is around the corner, and we have also been practicing so that we are ready to sing our hearts out!

Writing and Phonics: We started simple sentence reading and writing this week. It was unbelievable to see how confident these little Squad members were. We are so proud of how much they have learned and how quickly they are able to recognise the words, and then read them out loud. Great work, everybody! We also completed an ‘ag’ word family worksheet where the children had to match the word with the picture, they are getting good with this!

Maths: In Maths this week, we practiced counting and recapping our addition and subtraction methods. We then took these skills and applied them by completing sums in our workbooks. Well done Smart Squad, you are super stars with this!

Life Skills: What a lovely moral-conscious theme to discuss this week. We introduced this by showing kindness to each other and having manners. We then branched off and said that when we help others, we are showing them love and therefore filling their buckets up with love. They really loved the analogy and then practiced helping each other for the remainder of the week.

Art: The art activity this week is a surprise. We will be revealing these lovely group creations at the Art Expo. A little hint: the creations are simply out of this world and ‘’ROARsome”.

It has been a great week!

See you all next week.

We started off the week with a bang and continued assessing our brilliant Curious Crew. They are doing so well and we are very proud of each child for progressing thus far. Keep up the good work boys and girls!

We completed our art work on Thursday after doing a little each day. We painted our chameleons in water colours which turned out beautifully! Whilst some were completing their art pieces, others were completing independent number formation.

On Tuesday the children cut out their cactus ovals and this allowed them to practice their cutting skills. We were so pleased with how the children have grasped the concept of holding the paper with one hand and cutting with the other. On Wednesday, the Crew had some fun in the sun with Teacher Emma. They sprinkled some sand onto their calendar paper to form the base of their desert. So much fun! On Thursday we finally stuck all of the art elements together to form our desert setting. They turned out so beautifully!

We had such fun during our ring time sessions this week. Our Crew know all about African animals so we decided to learn all about other kinds of wild animals from all over the world! First, we learnt all about the wild animals of the Amazon Rain Forest. The Crew were amazed to learn just how big an Anaconda snake gets, yikes! We then learnt all about the wild animals of the Tongass National Forest, home to many bears! We then discovered all about the wild animals of Antarctica followed by the wild animals of the desert – where we find our chameleon, hehe! We showed the Crew where each place can be found on our globe – they found this very fascinating!

We introduced the Crew to the concept of 2D vs 3D shapes. We made a beautiful cube to bring the shape of the week to life. The Crew loved seeing the end product and seemed very chuffed that they had learnt about a new complex shape.

During cooking the Crew had loads of fun making a little Porcupine out of fruit and chocolate chips. They were very excited to eat their master piece for morning snack, hehe! At Fun Fit Sport we had a challenge to see who could hang from the monkey bars for the longest – wow we were really impressed with some of the Crews strength!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend! On a side note, could we please ask that you practice the months of the year with your child over the weekend and specifically focus on the month that they were born. Thank you! We would also like to thank you for all of your effort with the letter challenge books, so far, they are looking awesome!

Have a wonderful and warm weekend!

Who knows what a group of giraffe is called? Let us know on the class WhatsApp group!

Wow, what a jam-packed week we have had. We have had so much excitement this week with lots of fun activities!

During ring time we spoke about wild animals and what makes them “wild”; we also spoke about our Big 5 and birds of prey which are hunters and carnivores. Some of our Hoppers wanted to share their own experiences about being in the bush and seeing wild animals – we heard some very interesting stories!

We also spoke about the letter “Z”, the Hoppers loved the story about “Zig Zag Zebra” and the “zzzzzzz” sound that woke her up from her nap. Please ask your Hopper what the “zzzzzzzz” was and if they remember the words we did with the “Z” sound.

On Wednesday during playtime, we had tractor rides. Our Happy Hoppers were so excited when they heard the tractor. The eager Hoppers all waited so patiently for their turn!

For our art, we focused on birds of prey. We made an Eagle and this was a process piece of art which we did during the week.  At the beginning of the week we went for a nature walk to search for feathers and bark.  Our Happy Hoppers showed us their colouring skills and coloured in a picture of an eagle. We then stuck the eagle onto a black piece of paper and added some bark and feathers. For the finishing touch, we flicked some white paint on the black paper to make some stars and added a sponge painted moon with a little bit of glitter to add some sparkle!

We played an audio game, where we played the sounds that various wild animals make and the Hoppers had to guess the name of the animal. Some animals like the lion, were quite easy to identify, but other sounds like a Buffalo and Rhino were a bit trickier! This was such a fun guessing game and our children enjoyed it thoroughly!

It has been a great week!

Remember to dose up your little ones with extra vitamins, it is getting a lot colder and there are lots of germs going around.

Our theme next week is: Land, Air and Sea Transport

Have a safe and lovely weekend!

Who knows what a group of giraffe is called? Let us know on the class WhatsApp group!

We sure have had a ton of fun at school this week! There was so much to learn about! Wow! This Wild Animal theme is such a fun and interesting one.

We began our art piece by talking about the tallest animal – the giraffe – and all about it! What colour it is, how many legs it has, what’s on its head… we sponge painted a picture of a giraffe. We also made a paper plate lion … this was a lot of fun and we have decided to keep it for our Art Expo.

We did a lot of puzzle building this week and the Pups are really getting good at this activity.

The high light of the week must have been the tractor ride! Each class got to have a turn, where uncle Ryan put all the kiddies in a trailer and then they took a ride around the grounds just outside of the playground. Some Pups were too afraid to go but others thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They didn’t want to get out!

Thank you all for bringing in recycled materials to rebuild our art supplies. Please continue to set aside anything we can use for art. Please also bring us any toys you are throwing out. We can always find a home for them, if not with us, then with one of our charities.

Have a wonderful weekend. Please remember to do a weekly nail trim, there’s just not enough time in the day for us teachers to do nail trims. We look forward to another fun week of learning.
