Intra-Mural Activities

EcoKids Extras (Included in School Fees)

Our fun, interactive school provides your children with the opportunity to participate in a selection of the following varied activities, all of which are included in the monthly school fees.

Music, Dance, Drums!

Each age group joins in a half hour twice a week of music and rhythm. Learning songs as well as doing a variety of movement to music involving acting out stories and songs.

Incorporating music into the development of good hand-eye and fun gross motor activity, rhythm exercise, focal exercise, group participation and confidence building. Learning about and how to play simple instruments and making instruments of their own.

Green Peace Gardening

In the Spring and Summer, we spend time digging, watering, and getting a bit muddy whilst tending to our little vegetable gardens. Each class has its own veggie patch, where they sow new seeds, watch them grow and then get to harvest and take home the final delicious and nutritious product.

They also learn about recycling and reusing, alternative forms of energy, water conservation, purifying water, taking care of our planet, and what it means to be an EcoKid!

Nature and Ecology

Nature themes will be used to introduce children to the wonder of our natural and beautiful world. From the tiniest insects to the biggest whale; from land to sea.

We farm ants and earthworms, collect leaves, feathers, and stones, grow mushrooms, go on nature walks and enjoy the great outdoors. Teaching a healthy respect for plants and animals and what they mean to the world we live in.

EcoCooking Class

Once a week the children participate in a cooking class where they will get to make something delicious and nutritious! Nutrition will be an important topic in cooking class as well as an emphasis on the method. They are exposed to the science, maths and techniques of cooking; squash it, melt or freeze it, sprinkle a little then pour half, then add 2 spoons and mix!

The children just love taking their treats home to share with Mom and Dad, or sometimes they get to eat them at school with their friends. They also come to appreciate the love and time their parents put into their meals!

Kiddie Yoga

What better way to start the day with a bit of yoga!

Basic moves are incorporated constantly into our daily routine in the form of stretching and relaxing but will also take place weekly in the form of kiddie yoga sessions.

The weekly sessions will revolve around a story that incorporates music and pictures. Yoga is a wonderful exercise for our pupils to take part in – it teaches them to breathe deeply, stretch, relax and focus on themselves.

The children concentrate on the story and focus on their movements.

Emotional Well-Being Course

As a result of the fast-paced lives we lead, children are struggling to use their words and to voice their emotions to express exactly what they are experiencing. This leads to frustration, upset, and tears. Children sometimes resort to expressing themselves physically rather than verbally. We offer a course at school which will guide the children to find their voice in order to communicate more effectively and to learn to process their emotions in a healthy manner. It also offers parents information on how to use the time that you do have with your children to build on their emotional intelligence.

Coding & Robotics

The Full STEAM Ahead Robotics Team joins our Grade R children once a week. Classes follow the principles of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths.

Classes utilise resources such as AmaKhodi (unplugged coding) and LEGO for Education. The hands-on activities encourage children to learn through play, inspiring them to build, code, and explore, preparing them for a future in a world we can only dream to imagine ourselves.

Extra-Murals

EcoKids Extras (Not included in school fees)

Extra murals which are not included in school fees do not take place during school hours but directly after school on their allocated day. Parents are encouraged to spectate quietly but can also take advantage of the extra time and collect children promptly after their extra mural. Any children not collected on time will be taken to after care and after care fees will be charged at a daily rate.
