A Week of Learning, Hygiene & Hands-On Fun

This week our theme was Hygiene, and our Curious Crew had a busy and productive week filled with meaningful learning experiences. From numeracy and language to art and movement, the children explored important skills in a hands-on and engaging way.

Numeracy

In numeracy, we continued practising addition and subtraction, using links as our new maths manipulative.

The children enjoyed building, joining, and breaking apart numbers, which helped them develop a clearer understanding of number relationships. Using concrete materials supports number sense, problem-solving skills, and confidence while making learning interactive and enjoyable.

Language & Literacy

For language, we focused on the formation of the letter “c” using playdough. This activity strengthened fine-motor muscles while reinforcing correct letter formation in a playful and accessible way.

We also completed a sequencing activity based on the correct steps for washing hands, linking directly to our hygiene theme. Sequencing supports children’s ability to follow instructions, understand order, and develop early comprehension skills.

The children practised writing twice — first using guided lines, and then independently. We are very proud of the effort, focus, and perseverance shown as they challenged themselves to write on their own.

Art

Art was a highlight this week. The children drew detailed and expressive stick figures, each showing wonderful individuality.

We also created a germ-themed painting connected to our hygiene topic. This artwork will be kept for our upcoming Art Expo — we know it’s hard to wait, but it will be worth it.

Movement & Fun Fit Sport

To end off the week, we enjoyed Fun Fit Sport, where the children completed an obstacle course. This helped develop balance, coordination, strength, and overall body awareness while having fun through movement.

It has been a wonderful week of learning, growth, and creativity. We are very proud of the Curious Crew and look forward to continuing this exciting learning journey together.

This week our theme was health and hygiene.

During ring time, we discussed how keeping ourselves clean goes hand in hand with staying healthy. We talked about the correct way to brush our teeth and also did a hands-on practical on how to wash our hands properly. The Bugs did so well and were very eager to take part.

For art this week, we enjoyed making little germ models using paint and googly eyes that the Bugs had to stick on. We will be keeping this art piece for our art expo. We also focused on the colour green this week. The Bugs looked through magazines to find green pictures, which we then stuck onto paper. They did an amazing job.

For Busy Bugs Yoga Day, our theme was hygiene. Our theme song for the week was “Wash, wash, wash your hands,” where we did all the actions while incorporating yoga poses. Our yoga song was “If you love yoga and you know it,” followed by different yoga poses.

The poses we practiced were tree, mountain, warrior and child’s pose. For breath work, we practiced lion, bunny, flower and balloon breathing.

We ended off with a relaxing quiet time and sang our goodbye yoga song.

For FunFit sports, we worked on building confidence by hanging on the monkey bars and confidently sliding down the big slide. The Bugs did so amazing.

Health and Hygiene & Happy Little Humans! 🦷💧

What a wonderfully busy (and slightly sweaty!) week it’s been in Playful Pups as we focused on our theme: Health and Hygiene, a topic our little ones tackled with enthusiasm.

We kicked things off, as always, with our Monday morning yoga session led by the ever calm and bendy Teacher Nicole. The Pups stretched, balanced, breathed deeply and showed off some impressive poses — who knew downward dog could be so adorable?

Tuesday brought along FunFit Sports with Coach Trevor, who wasted no time putting the Pups through their paces! They zig-zagged around cones like mini athletes in training before conquering the wooden jungle gym, climbing ladders, braving heights and zooming down the big slide with squeals of delight, and sometimes big eyes.

With the weather being exceptionally hot this week, hydration has been our top priority. After outdoor play and sporty sessions, the Pups made sure to refuel with plenty of water, sip, sip, hooray!  And speaking of outside time… we continue to enforce our very important rule: “No hats, no play!”
Now, keeping hats on a lively bunch of toddlers is… let’s say… a work in progress. But we persevere — sun safety is serious business, even when hats mysteriously fall off every five minutes!

During our cosy morning tea chats, the Pups have been learning all about keeping their bodies clean and healthy, from taking regular baths and washing their hair, to brushing their teeth every single day.

These chats also double as learning time, where we practise counting from 1 to 10 and revisit different colours throughout the week. The progress in just four weeks back at school has been remarkable, many of our little ones are adding new words to their vocabulary daily, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Handwashing before meals has become part of our routine too, and we’re hopeful that these small but mighty habits will stick with them for years to come.

To top off our week, we’ve started creating some very sweet Valentine’s artwork in preparation for next week’s theme: My Emotions. We’ll be exploring and naming feelings such as happy, sad, mad and scared, helping our Pups build their emotional intelligence in fun, age-appropriate ways.

It’s shaping up to be another fun-filled and meaningful week ahead!
