During ring time, we discussed the difference between hot and cold and spoke about the importance of staying safe around things that are hot.

For Numeracy, we enjoyed some fun counting activities. The Bugs counted the blocks and matched them to the correct colour. We also completed an activity where they had to circle the correct number that was given to them. They all did an amazing job, and we are so proud of their hard work!

In Art, we had a wonderful messy play activity where the Bugs painted a fire underneath a ziplock bag, using their tiny fingers to blend the colours together. We then went on a nature walk to collect pieces of bark, which we glued onto our artwork to make our fires look warm and cosy.

Throughout the week, we also enjoyed a cutting activity and had lots of fun with playdough. The Bugs rolled little worms and practised their scissor skills by cutting them into smaller pieces.

Yoga

Getting ready for our yoga session, we started with a side plank (leg down) warm-up pose, which helps to:

  • Strengthen the core
  • Stabilise the shoulders
  • Activate the hip muscles

Our yoga song included seven different poses, all combined with breathwork to encourage focus and relaxation.

For our group pose, we sat together in a circle with our feet touching in the centre. Using our tummy muscles, we lifted our feet together into Boat Pose and held it for 10 seconds. The Bugs did so well!

We ended our session with some peaceful quiet time.

It has been a week filled with fun, learning, creativity, and exciting activities. We hope you all have a wonderful mid-term break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school refreshed and ready for another exciting term!

Have a safe and happy holiday!

🐾 Playful Pups Blog – Winter Fire & Ice 🔥❄️

Brrr… what a chilly week we’ve had! Our Winter Fire & Ice theme couldn’t have been more fitting as we chatted about the cold winter weather and why it’s so important to wrap up warm. We spoke about wearing beanies, gloves, scarves and warm jackets to keep our little bodies nice and cozy when we head outside.

We got our week off to a fantastic start with a fun yoga session that helped warm up our muscles and get everyone moving. Later in the week, Coach Trevor put our energetic Pups through a lively FunFit session filled with star jumps, push-ups, running on the spot and balancing challenges on the beams. There were plenty of smiles, lots of determination and, of course, a few rosy cheeks by the end!

Our creative activity this week was a favourite. The Pups painted a campfire using vibrant reds, oranges and yellows, but with a fun twist! We introduced a new painting technique where watered-down acrylic paint was dropped onto the paper and the children used straws to blow the paint upwards, creating beautiful flickering flames. When I told the class we were going to make a fire, several little voices immediately asked, “Will it be hot?” 😄 Their wonderful curiosity never fails to make us smile!

It has been another busy and exciting week filled with learning, laughter and creativity. As we finish today, we also begin our Winter mid-term break. We wish all our Playful Pups and their families a wonderful, restful week. To those lucky enough to be travelling—hopefully somewhere a little warmer—we wish you safe travels and a fantastic holiday.

We can’t wait to welcome all our Pups back on 6th July, refreshed and ready for another term of fun and adventure!

Have a wonderful break, everyone! 💙

Rr – Recycling

Another busy and meaningful week has flown by. This week our Smart Squad learned all about caring for our world and the importance of looking after the planet we call home. We discussed ways we can help protect the environment and learned about recycling, why we recycle, and how even small actions can make an enormous difference.

For our art activity, we painted beautiful ocean scenes. On one side of our pictures, we added various pieces of paper, bottle lids, and other recycled materials to represent pollution in our oceans. This helped the children see the impact that litter and waste can have on marine life and the environment.

This topic is especially close to our hearts, as caring for our world reflects the true values and vision of our school. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic about finding ways to help keep our planet clean, healthy, and beautiful for future generations.

This week we played lots of games because many of our friends were absent due to illness. We enjoyed a variety of number matching games and phonics games, which helped us learn while having fun. On Friday, we had the opportunity to view all the wonderful projects that our classmates had worked so hard on. We are so proud of each and every child for the effort, creativity, and dedication that went into these projects.

A special thank you to Teacher Anita for treating us to pizza for lunch. It was such a kind and thoughtful surprise, and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.

Please remember that next week is a short week, and we look forward to another fun-filled week of learning together.

Have a wonderful long weekend.

Rr – Recycling

Hi and welcome back to this week’s Playful Pups blog.

Our week started bright and early on Monday morning with the Pups enjoying their yoga session with Teacher Nicole. As always, it was a wonderful way to begin the week, stretching our bodies, practicing balance and having lots of fun along the way.

Sadly, Coach Trevor was unavailable for FunFit Sports on Wednesday, but he has promised the Pups that he will make his much-anticipated return next week and put them through another exciting and energetic session. We know they will be thrilled to see him back!

Our theme this week was all about Recycling and looking after our planet. We spent time chatting about how important it is to care for the world around us and how every little bit helps. It is never too early to start learning about being kind to our environment.

We changed things up a little this week and got busy creating a fabulous piece of process art. Taking advantage of the beautiful sunshine, the Pups headed outdoors where they were free to paint and explore their creativity. Using a board made entirely from recycled and reused materials, including toilet roll tubes, egg cartons, bottle caps and pieces from long-forgotten puzzle sets, they enthusiastically splashed, dabbed and layered bright colours to create a truly unique masterpiece. They had an absolute blast and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

In another creative endeavour, the Pups also got started on their special Father’s Day cards. There has been lots of concentration, creativity and excitement involved, so watch this space as they continue working on them next week.

We have another long weekend ahead of us, with Youth Day being celebrated on Tuesday, 16th June, and Monday being observed as a public holiday. We hope all our families enjoy the extended break, have a wonderful time together and stay safe.

We look forward to welcoming all our Pups back on Wednesday for another week of learning, laughter and fun.

Shjoe! What a week we’ve had in Crew!

Our theme this week was Recycling, and we have been busy little bees from start to finish. Between all the fun activities, art projects and literacy work, there has hardly been a dull moment.

On Monday, we started the week by working on our early writing skills. Instead of pencils, we used tweezers and pom poms, carefully picking them up and placing them into an egg tray. What the kiddos thought was a fun game was actually a fantastic way to strengthen those little finger muscles that are so important for writing.

On Tuesday, we got stuck into a very important job… cleaning up our ocean!

For our messy play activity, we filled the water table with “rubbish” made up of tin, paper, plastic and glass (represented by beads). Our busy little Crew rolled up their sleeves and got straight to work sorting and cleaning. It was wonderful to watch them apply the recycling rules we’ve been discussing in class.

As our theme this week was recycling, we also got cracking on making our very own Recycled Rangers. The children absolutely loved threading bottle tops onto wires and creating their little characters. There was lots of concentration, problem solving and creativity happening around the art tables.

We also created a spectacular recycled art piece showing the importance of cleaning up and recycling. The children worked so hard on this project and were incredibly proud of the final result.

Of course, amongst all the fun, we still made time for the serious stuff too!

We have continued practising our decoding skills in preparation for our exciting Time 2 Read books coming in Term 3. I am honestly so impressed with how well the children are blending and sounding out words. They are making wonderful progress.

We also learnt how to write and correctly form the letter “r”. Every week I see more confidence developing in their writing, and it is such a lovely thing to watch.

This week was full of learning, creating, exploring and a little bit of getting messy along the way. Just the way we like it in Crew!

Hello Moms and Dads!

This week we learned all about Caring for our Environment and Recycling.

We started off our week asking the children if they knew what recycling was, and they really impressed me! We spoke about the different bins that we have for recycling, paper, plastic, metal and glass. The Happy Hoppers then went for a walk to see our Eco Kids Recycling station with real different colour bins! They were so interested to see what was in the different bins. We then took them on a nature walk, looking around to see if we could see any litter.

We did an activity with 3 bins where the children had to paste paper, plastic and metal on the correct bin. This was fun!

We danced to some action songs to warm our bodies up in this chilly weather and on Tuesday we also had a fun day. We watched a clip called A Whale’s Tale which taught the Happy hoppers all about how rubbish and litter effect the environment.

For out numeracy activity each child got a number 6 that they coloured in and then had to paste 6 objects on the number. We then had Funfit sports with Coach Trevor where our Hoppers practiced throwing a ball and did batting.

On Wednesday we started the morning with testing our balancing skills. The children walked zig zag through cones balancing a bean bag on their heads. For art the Hoppers made a recycled piggy bank made out of a plastic bottle.

On Thursday we had a very exciting morning, where we got an opportunity to sit in the kitchen and watch and observe Chef Thembi. She showed the children how to make scrambled eggs and took us through the process. The Hoppers each had a turn to even crack the eggs themselves and thoroughly enjoyed this activity!

On Friday we started off with much loved library. The children then did show and tell and we took them to the recycling station where they each got a chance to weigh their recycling materials.

Another Fun week!

A friendly reminder next week Monday is a school holiday and Tuesday a public holiday.

Have a lovely long weekend!
