Vv – Vegetables

This week in Smart Squad, we had an incredible time learning all about fruit and vegetables on the farm. The kids were so excited as we discovered all the assorted colours, shapes, and flavours of fruits and veggies.

For art, we also had a blast doing bubble wrap printing, the kids loved seeing their own colourful patterns come to life. We also had to finish off our bee art for our show we had the bee man.

For mathematics, this week we had to count on a number line and then we had to complete a worksheet about filling in the missing number. Our second worksheet we had to complete a shape pattern and then create their own pattern.

Phonics this week they had to listen to the sound in each word and then circle the correct letters. On the next page the Squad had to blend then read. Match the word with the correct picture.

And on Wednesday, we celebrated World Bee Day with a visit from the Bee Man {James}, who came to explain the importance of bees, and we even got to taste real honey. The kids looked amazing all dressed up in their yellow outfits and beautiful bee Alice bands.

Yoga Monday.

We worked on picture and pose association once again.

There were a variety of pictures with animals and transport.

Some pictures have numbers 1-5, we did various breathwork according to the number.

We matched our poses according to the pictures.

🦁🐘🐵🐊🏍️🚂🐬🦅

Our session finished off with 2 minutes of quiet relaxation.

At Funfit sports with coach Trevor we did a short obstacle course which was so much fun that the kids wanted to do it over and over. They are so funny anything to stay outside on the playground.

It was so special. It’s been a busy week as we also practice for our big concert there’s so much excitement in the air as we learn and grow together. Parents, please, can I ask you to make sure that your child’s homework is completed, as this is particularly important.

Love the Smart Squad Teachers.

This week our theme was The Farm, Fruit and Vegetables, our letter was Vv, our number was 15, and our colour of the week was blue 💙

What a jam packed week of fun filled learning it has been in Crew. There has been so much excitement, creativity and hands on learning happening in our classroom.

We actually started our art preparations last Friday already as we got ready for our very special Bee Day celebrations 🐝. The children had so much fun prepping and painting their corks, and the excitement for Bee Day just kept growing from there.

Monday arrived and in between practising our writing on our whiteboards and even practising our writing on the floor, we managed to squeeze in some very fun FunFit Sports too. Our special Crew have honestly been practising their letters nonstop in preparation for our exciting letter challenge later this term, and their confidence is growing so beautifully.

On Tuesday we completed our adorable bee drawings, and the children were so proud of their work.

For our Bee Day celebrations, we had a fabulous visit from James the Bee Man, which was incredibly exciting. The children were absolutely fascinated and loved learning more about bees and how important they are 🐝

Thursdays are for Numeracy, and this week we introduced the addition of two numbers using our ten frame pop its while also practising the correct mathematical terminology. The children are really starting to grasp the concept and love anything that feels a little bit like a game.

Our week has honestly felt magical. Now that our assessments are done, we can really focus on all the wonderful parts of being in Grade RR because after all, you are only little once 💛

This week our theme was fruit and vegetables.

For our theme discussion this week, we focused on why we need to eat fruit and vegetables and why they are healthy for us. We also discussed the different colours of the fruits and vegetables that we get.

For art this week, we did a group activity where we all painted different coloured egg cartons and cut them to make small little fruits, such as strawberries, lemons, and grapes. We then used all of these fruits to create a small little market that we will be keeping for the art expo! I can proudly say it is a very cute art piece.

This week, we also focused on threading and colour recognition activities. We are currently busy with assessments and concert practice in between all the fun activities.

For FunFit Sports this week, the Bugs enjoyed the wooden jungle gym on the playground, where Coach Trevor helped them build confidence and complete activities independently. They all did amazingly well.

For yoga this week:

Yoga Day!
🐝 Yoga Song
🐝 “Do the Yoga Rap” song

🐝 Activity
Today we focused on our balloon breaths. By using their balloon breaths, the yogis had to blow on a magic windmill to try and make it spin.

🐝 This activity helps develop mouth articulation and deep breathing. 🎈

This week we learned all about on the Farm- Fruit and Vegetables.

We started the week off leaning what a fruit and vegetable is, all the different types we get and why it is so important for us to eat lots of fruit and veggies!

The children did an activity where they coloured in a soup pot and had to look through magazines and cut out fruit and vegetable pictures.

The children then went on a nature walk where we spotted a lemon tree! a very sour fruit!

We did a tear and paste activity where the children had to use orange paper and stick it onto a carrot.

Our Happy Hoppers enjoyed FunFit sports with Coach Trevor, and let out all there energy!

The children were very excited for the Bee Day! They came dressed in the most awesome busy bee outfits!

They had a little talk from the Bee keeper and the children got to taste some yummy honey which they loved!

We practiced for our concert. The excitement is there! And the children are practicing so well!

We did an awesome art activity where the children painted using real fruit,  stamping them on a paper.

We ended a busy week with our favourite Yoga! Yoga day!

Have a beautiful weekend.

Another busy, creative and slightly chilly week in the world of the Playful Pups! This week our theme was all about The Farm, Fruit and Vegetables, with a very important extra celebration added into the mix — World Bee Day. Safe to say, our classroom was buzzing with excitement from start to finish.

We kicked off the week with our usual Monday morning yoga session, which is always a wonderful way to stretch, wiggle and ease ourselves into the week ahead. There is nothing quite like watching a group of determined little Pups attempting yoga poses while also trying to spot what their friends are doing at the same time!

Our creative side was hard at work this week. We finally completed our fabulous paper plate lion heads, which are looking wonderfully wild and fierce. The Pups also enjoyed sponge painting broccoli — proving that even vegetables can become works of art in the right little hands. We spent time practicing our cutting skills using child-friendly scissors as part of our report assessments. Cutting is certainly no easy task at this age and requires plenty of concentration, patience and coordination. We were incredibly proud of our Pups and their determination and perseverance as they tackled this important milestone so bravely.

Our Bark Tree project is also coming along beautifully and is slowly turning into quite the masterpiece. We cannot wait to show off the finished creation once all the final touches have been added.

Wednesday brought much excitement as we celebrated World Bee Day. The Pups created the most adorable little bees, and several children arrived dressed in wonderfully creative bee costumes. A huge round of applause must go to our parents for all the effort put into the black and yellow outfits — our school was absolutely buzzing with colour and excitement.

One of the highlights of the week was a visit from our special Bee Man, who visits us every year to teach the children about the importance of bees and the incredible work they do for our environment. The Pups listened with great interest and, of course, the best part for many was getting to taste some delicious, creamed honey afterwards. Sticky fingers but very happy faces all around!

In between all the fun and creativity, Coach Trevor joined us once again for sports. This week the Pups practiced throwing “soccer” balls into a basket. Besides being lots of fun, these activities help teach important skills such as listening carefully to instructions, waiting patiently in line for a turn and counting the number of goals scored. There was plenty of cheering, excitement and celebration with every successful throw.

With the colder winter mornings making themselves known, there has also been plenty of running around to keep warm and burn off all that Puppy energy.

All in all, it has been a wonderfully productive and fun-filled week at school. We are already looking forward to next week as we continue learning all about The Farm and meet some of the animals that call it home!

IB Principle: Communicators – As part of the IB Principle of being effective Communicators, we discussed with the Squad the value of expressing their feelings and thoughts using words. We emphasized the importance of active listening, using the right tone of voice, and thinking before speaking to ensure their words are kind and respectful to others.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad focused on the “ag” family and then wrote sentences in their workbooks using these words. We are so pleased with how well they are progressing with their handwriting and how they are using the correct pencil grip and pencil control. We also practiced our Time2Read programme where the children have been decoding words using the sound buttons.

Mathematics: This week, our squad mastered the basics of telling time – a challenging but exciting concept! We’re super proud of the kiddies for their efforts and perseverance. They also practiced counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. Keep it up squad!

Creative Art:  This week in art, our squad unleashed their creativity with TWO incredible projects!  First, they carefully observed a vibrant fruit basket and brought it to life on paper, sketching the basket and its juicy contents, then bursting with colour as they added their own flair by colouring them in!

Next, they got inventive with recycled materials, crafting their own 3D fruit masterpieces!  By gluing and shaping the pieces, they created fruit models that were almost good enough to eat!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

The Curious Crew class, assessments are in full swing! All assessment work will be sent home in the Crews portfolio when their reports go out on break up day for Mid-Term break.

This week in ring time, we focused on numbers, colours, shapes and letters. For discussion we spoke about the cycle of a plant from seed to the final product and that we get our fruits and vegetables from a farm and not just from a grocery store. We also learnt some fun facts about bananas and strawberries:

Bananas: Bananas are berries! That’s right!!—according to science, bananas are a kind of berry. They grow on big plants, not trees! Banana “trees” are actually giant herbs. Monkeys love them, and so do lots of kids! Bananas have a natural smile! If you cut one across, you’ll see a smiley shape.

They help you go, go, go! Bananas give you energy to run and play.

Strawberries: Strawberries aren’t berries! Even though “berry” is in the name, they aren’t real berries. They wear their seeds on the outside. Most fruits have seeds inside, but strawberries are different. Each strawberry has about 200 seeds! They grow low to the ground on small green plants with white flowers. They are heart-shaped, sweet, and juicy—perfect for snack time!

Art: We did 2 lovely activities this week! First was a still life of a fruit basket which we can keep for the art expo. The second was a cut and paste exercise creating our own giant carrot. This activity worked on our fine motor skills

In Fun Fit Sports this week we did assessment work and had fun focusing on our cricket skills catching a ball and of course batting.

Concert practice is in full swing where we sing songs wherever we find a gap. Let’s keep up that Great Spirit!

Yoga: This week we did Vegetable yoga! We spoke about how to start and grow a veggie garden whilst doing various yoga poses. Each yogi-seed got “watered” and grew big and strong. We finished off with basic stretches and quiet time.

Next week’s theme: Farming: Animals

Wow another week that has just flown by so quickly. We learnt all about farm produce. What an interesting theme to learn about. Fruit and vegetables and how they are grown and looked after on the farm. The Hoppers were quite surprised to learn how much work goes into looking after the fruit and vegetables on the farm.

We told the Hoppers that it is super important to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. We heard a lot of stories about what their favourite fruit and vegetables are. For art, this week we did some tearing and sticking of a watermelon which is so important to strengthen their finger muscles.

Today we did Vegetable yoga! We spoke about how to start and grow a veggie garden whilst doing various yoga poses.

Each yogi-seed got “watered” and grew big and strong.

We finished off with basic stretches and quiet time.

We have had a very busy week with assessments still happening and practising for our concert.

This week has brought chilly mornings, but that has not stopped our Bugs from enjoying their days to the MAX! We had a jam packed week learning all about The Farm: Fruit and Vegetables!

This is a theme close to our hearts at EcoKids as it is everything we stand for and believe in. Healthy kids and healthy food.

Our Bugs had so much fun discussing the different fruits and veggies and we were very surprised at how many different fruits and veggies our Bugs actually know including the less common ones like Kiwi, Cherries, Cauliflower and Spring Onion. When we asked our Bugs if they enjoyed fruits, we had a very collective YES!!! When we asked if our Bugs enjoyed vegetables… well, not so much! Haha!

We also got to discuss what the differences were between fruits and vegetables. Fruits usually grow on trees or vines, and veggies usually grow on or in the ground. As well as that fruits are better to eat raw and veggies are better to eat cooked, although technically you can eat them any way you choose.

For Art this week, the Bugs made an adorable fruit and veggie basket by stamping our handprints to make strawberries, our little feet to make carrots and a cork to make grapes, then imprint colouring on our classroom wall to make an awesome pattern for a basket, and sticking it all together!

Our first show and tell was amazing, and the Bugs had so much fun showing of the goodies that they brought!

Have a lovely weekend, keep warm and we will see you all next week.

Oh, what a delightful week we’ve had learning about fruits and vegetables! The Pups were absolutely thrilled! During free play, we had a blast washing the fruits and veggies while chatting about why it’s so important to clean them before eating or cooking. The little ones were so engaged and curious!

For art this week, we made adorable watermelons out of paper plates. The Pups worked on their fine motor skills and did such a fantastic job. Most of them knew exactly what we were making and could identify all the colours perfectly. It made my heart swell with pride!

We also put a lot of effort into our art expo pieces. The Pups are working so hard to make everything look just right for our mommies and daddies. This art expo is going to be a hit for sure!

And, of course, we practiced our concert songs throughout the week. The Pups are bursting with excitement to show off their moves and sing their hearts out!

It’s been a week filled with joy, creativity, and so much love. I couldn’t be prouder of our little ones!

IB Principle: Communicators – We explained to the Squad the importance of communicating and expressing how they feel by using their words and that they must try their best to listen actively to others. We also explained that they need to make sure they are using the correct tone of voice and think about what they want to say to others before saying it as their words can sometimes hurt others.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad wrote their next 9 sight words using the cat method. We are so pleased with how well they are progressing with their handwriting and how they are using the correct pencil grip and pencil control. We also practiced our Time2Read programme where the children have been decoding words using the sound buttons.

Mathematics: This week we focused on the concept “before and after up to 10 and ordering numbers up to 10. The Squad did a worksheet where they had to put the numbers in the correct order by seeing which numbers come before and after.

Creative Art: For art this week the children made their own “pumpkin men” they added “clothing” and drew their faces on the pumpkins as well as added arms and legs. They enjoyed this art activity and were impressed with their creations.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

This week in the Curious Crew class, assessments are still in full swing! All assessment work will be sent home in the Crews portfolio when their reports go out on break up day for Mid-Term break.

This week in ring time, we discussed the difference between fruits and vegetables. We discussed that a fruit comes from a flower that dies and a fruit will start to grow when the flower died. Fruit also have pips whereas vegetables don’t. So here are some interesting facts, a lot of the foods we call vegetables are actually fruitsAll ‘vegetables’ with seeds are actually fruits! And these vegetables have been classified as vegetables by the culinary world, your chefs, because these fruits are not sweet like all the fruits we know.

We did two lovely activities this week! The first we a little garden made from egg cartons. The Crew coloured in their little barns and planted kidney beans in some cotton to grow. They made their own little farms.

The second activity was a guided drawing of a farm. This activity worked on a few different skills. Following instructions is such an important aspect of our Curious Crew year! Spatial awareness also plays a role in this activity and last but not least the importance of fine motor skills and drawing. They came out beautifully! I was super proud of the work the Crew did in this guided drawing.

In Fun Fit Sports this week we did assessment work, setting up different exercises for the Crew to complete.

For cooking this week, we got some small ice-cream cones and they were put together with yoghurt and fruit! This was a delicious light and sweet snack the Curious Crew enjoyed so much. Yum Yum!

Concert practice is in full swing where we sing songs wherever we find a gap. It was so rewarding when the Crew started singing one of our songs randomly while we were in ring time and the way they had the tune right and the words. It made out teacher hearts very happy in that special moment. Let’s keep up that great spirit!

Just a reminder parents to please buy concert clothes, the due date in drawing nearer.
