This week has been lovely, with our Hoppers settling into routine, and forming those very important bonds with their friends and teachers.  We have enjoyed getting to know all of the children and their little individual personality quirks.

This week our theme was “My body”! We have had so much fun learning about our bodies and loved doing the activities for this theme. We have been focusing a lot on fine motor skills this week, with exercises such as; gluing buttons, finger painting and drawing self portraits.

Our activities this week included a finger dot painting where the children created ants for our letter of the week. This activity helped our learners with letter recognition and pronunciation. They also put their fine motor skills to work where they glued little buttons onto a worksheet which displayed our number of the week, number one! Last but not least, our self portraits! Our kiddies completed a “I Can Draw Myself” worksheet where they drew their interpretations of themselves. We love self portraits from our kiddies as it gives us the perfect opportunity to see the children’s drawing development over the year!

We also did some gross motor stretching exercises and had fun learning songs and following a clap rhythm. We especially enjoyed “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”. We spoke about the abilities of our body parts. Hands can throw and feed us, feet help us walk, mouths help us talk. We also spoke about our organs inside our bodies, our hearts, brains and many different body functions.

It has been such a fun week of learning!

Have a safe and lovely weekend!

Next week’s theme: My Senses

Wiggle The Sillies Away!

Our Hoppers sure do love their music and movement sessions on the mat! This is the perfect time to wiggle all those sillies out and have a good giggle with friends!

The fun continued this week! We are really settling into a nice routine now and our Bugs are getting into the swing of things! We started with some fun art activities and extra mural demos this week and it is starting to feel like the holidays are well and truly behind us and that the new year has officially begun! We are seeing great things from our Bugs, and we are very proud of them.

As a fun learning activity this week, the Bugs were each given a label from our theme board and asked to find and label the correct parts of Teacher Gemma. They of course thought this was the funniest thing ever and seeing Teacher Gemma at the end with labels stuck all the way from her hair to her toes made everyone laugh even more!

We chatted about our moral theme, respecting other people’s personal space, and we all drew bubbles around us in the air. Our teachers explained that no one is allowed into your bubble if you don’t allow it. We then did an activity where we asked our friends for hugs. If they said it was okay, we moved into their space to give a hug. If they said no, we respected their choice. We also chatted about things like “What happens when your body gets hungry?” and then “Where does food go when you eat it?” Also, “What happens if you don’t brush your teeth?” We had a great time engaging their existing knowledge of the topic and then building onto it.

Even though our number for the week was 1, we can happily report that most of our Bugs can count up to 10. We played a game at ring time where each of them had to go find ONE RED thing in the class. What a fun game! We had red shoes, blocks and books! Well done, Busy Bugs!

For our art activity this week, we traced the outline of one of the Bugs body, painted it wild and wonderful colours, and then went searching through magazines to find pictures of different body parts, which we then stuck all over the painted body. We asked the Bugs to tell us which body part they were about to stick down before they did.

We enjoyed a lot of “firsts” this week and the Bugs LOVED them all!

We look forward to spending many more, happy weeks with these awesome Bugs!

Have a great weekend and we will see you next week for one of our favourite themes!

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

“Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Knees and Toes!” What a fun week with an exciting theme to go along with it! We are very proud to say that our Bugs know all of their body parts, including some of the trickier ones like ankle, elbow and chest! We just love how practical and hands on this theme can be and we love the excited looks on our Bugs faces when they point excitedly to a body part they know!n

I can’t believe it’s already the second week of school. Time sure does fly when you are having fun!

The Pups are starting to settle down more and more, some slowly but surely.

We are all getting to know more about each other which is so wonderful! The Pups loved learning about this week’s theme: My Body. It was so much fun counting our body parts. We focused mainly on our eyes, ears, nose and mouth.  We spoke about being kind to each other and respecting other people’s space. We also reminded the Pups how important it is to say please and thank you.

For this week’s Art activity we painted the Pups’ hands and made handprints on RED paper which was our colour of the week. I can’t wait to see these tiny hands grow in the future! On Thursday the Pups went to yoga with Teacher Nicole and, oh my goodness, this was such a treat and so much fun!

Overall we had a busy week playing, learning and dancing. Wow, we all had such a wonderful time!

I hope you all have a wonderful, happy and exciting weekend. See you all next week.

Next week’s theme is: Our Senses

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

We sang a song called Head Shoulders Knees and Toes. This singing activity was so cute, seeing these little bodies moving from one way to another. Oh and let me tell you, some of their facial expressions were just too precious!
