Jj – Jet
This week our theme was Land, Air and Sea Transport, our colour was blue, our shape was the diamond, and our letter of the week was Jj.
What a lovely week it has been in Crew! The children have been busy learning, creating and sharing, and there has been plenty of excitement in the classroom.
Our focus letter this week was Jj. The children have become absolute experts at their judo chops as we practice our “j” sound, and it has been wonderful to see how confidently they are recalling their phonemes.
We also continue to practice our CVC words (consonant vowel consonant words), and the progress the children are making is fantastic. It is so rewarding to watch them become more confident with blending sounds and recognizing simple words.
I have also loved listening to all the stories about the exciting homework activities the children have been completing at home. Their enthusiasm has been so special.
For numeracy this week, we worked on something a little different. The children completed an activity where they had to roll a die, count the dots, and then colour the corresponding car. This was a wonderful way to combine counting, number recognition and following instructions, all while having fun.
For a bit of a change this week, we combined handwriting and creativity. Instead of simply practicing the letter J, the children completed a directed drawing of a jellyfish. This activity helped reinforce letter recognition while also encouraging listening skills, concentration and creativity.
We have been incredibly busy with art this week and completed another two beautiful pieces for Art Expo. The children have been putting so much effort into their work, and we cannot wait to share these masterpieces with you later in the year.
Messy play was definitely a highlight this week! We explored different types of transport by sieving flour over them and then lifting them up to reveal the silhouettes underneath. The children were fascinated by the different shapes and outlines that appeared and loved the sensory experience of working with the flour.
It has been another wonderful week of learning, creativity and discovery in Crew. We are so proud of how hard the children are working and how much confidence they are gaining each day.
Have a HAPPY weekend!
