What a busy and fun week it’s been in Crew! The kiddos have been working really hard, and it’s been so lovely to watch them learning new things while still having lots of fun along the way.

Numeracy

For our numeracy activity this week, we placed number cards around the carpet and had Unifix cubes in the middle. Each learner was given a number and had to find the matching number card and then fill it with the correct number of cubes. The children really enjoyed this activity and it’s such a great way for them to connect the number they see with the actual amount.

We also did a measurement activity where the children had to arrange flowers from smallest to tallest. There was lots of comparing and double-checking which flower was bigger or smaller, and the kiddos did a great job figuring it out.

Art

We had a very busy week with art. The children worked on two special pieces.

One of them is a secret Art Expo piece, so I unfortunately can’t share too much about it just yet… but I promise you are going to be blown away by the amount of effort the kiddos have put into it. They worked incredibly hard and it’s looking amazing.

The second art piece was a geometric house. The learners had to listen carefully to instructions and build their houses using different shapes. It was great to see them recognizing the shapes and following the steps to create their houses.

Phonics and Writing

This week we introduced whiteboard slates for writing, and the children absolutely loved them. I would call out letters, and they would write them on their boards and then hold them up for the very important “thumbs up” check. The kids thought it was a game, but it was such a fun way to practice our handwriting without it feeling too formal.

We also had a special ring time where we practiced our alphabet phonemes — focusing on the sound the letters make instead of the letter names. To make it more fun we added little actions for some of the tricky sounds. We had judo chops for the letter “j” and buzzing hands for the letter “z”, which the children absolutely loved.

It’s been such a lovely week in Crew and I’m proud of all the effort the kiddos are putting into their work. They’re learning so much while still having fun, which is always the goal. 💛

Winter, Temperature, Fire and Ice

We started the week by creating a beautiful winter masterpiece. The children loved rolling cotton balls to make fluffy snow and building a 3D tree using old Checkers packets. It was such a fun way to show the children that even everyday items can be turned into something beautiful with a little imagination.
