Ss – Safety

This year for safety week we did activities and practiced safe rules and although we did some artworks such as making our own safety signboards and mini fire extinguishers, we deemed this week a more practical theme than an arty one. We focused on following rules that keep you safe and we did a fire drill so that we know what to do in the event of a fire. Curious Crew also learnt STOP, DROP, and ROLL. During ring times we discussed general safety, how to keep ourselves and others safe in different areas of our lives and stranger danger.

This week as we prepped the Crew for a fire drill, they were eager to learn and WOW the Crew were all out of the class in under a minute and all the children were calm and collected! Well done, Crew, you did such a wonderful job on this fire drill!

Music and Movement: On Tuesday after break Curious Crew got to do some concert practice and we started learning the lyrics to our concert songs. They did amazing and even learnt some of the steps to our dancing song!

FunFit Sports: The amazing Coach Trevor continued to prepare our little athletes for the upcoming sports day and by the looks of things our Curious Crew kiddies are eager to show off their athletics skills to all the moms and dads.

Cooking: This week we decided to make iced “STOP” sign cookies and while we were making our cookies in the kitchen teachers explained how to work safely in the kitchen, so no accidents happen, and no one gets hurt.

We completed 2 worksheets and 1 colouring sheet this week. The first was a tracing worksheet where the children had to trace the outlines of hexagons and draw a picture in the middle and everyone did so well with this activity and their drawing skills really shined.

The next was a letter “S” worksheet where the Crew traced the letter with rainbow colours to get used to letter formation when writing, it was so good to see their grip and control improving. We finished off with a colouring activity and as they colour we encourage them to colour neatly, slowly and with control, this is not to try put them in a box of colouring in the lines but to help develop their fine motor muscles in their hands.

We also got to have a birthday ring this week for Emily, welcome to the 5-year-old gang Emily! We hope you enjoy every moment. All our Curious Crew enjoyed celebrating Emily’s special day.

What an amazing week with so many fun activities. Have a great weekend parents!

Next week’s theme: My family

Stop, drop and roll into the weekend!

Dinosaurs – Under the Soil

Amongst the many different activities we have completed this week, we did a fossil like Pterodactyl made out of pasta. The Crew had to copy the example, planning where to glue next and how many pieces of pasta they would need. It came out really beautifully.

Space

Space

Space is always such an exciting and interesting theme which we can expand so much on. The Crew have a good understanding of space and it was great to go into the finer detail about space. This week our ring times have been extra-long because there is just so much information on space.

Reptiles

For art this week, we decided it would be a cool idea for the Crew to make their own Reptile booklets. We set out a displayed and instructed the children to draw first in black as the outline and then to colour in the pictures they had drawn. These came out so beautifully and we have decided to keep them for Art Expo.
