Writing and Phonics: This week we added two brand new sight words – “she” and “he”. We also completed handwriting on our next three letters “S”, “T” and “U”. The Squad are getting the hang of writing in their lined books and are also doing well with keeping finger spaces between their letters. We also practiced writing our sight words on white boards and letter formation from A-Z.

Maths: Our mathematics lesson this week we reiterated addition to 10. We also had a jumping frog worksheet where the children had to show how the frog jumps along the number line – they comprehended this very well and we were so pleased to see how they are grasping this concept. We have also been practicing counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s.

Life Skills: “open-minded”- we practiced allowing the children to think up different ways that we all think. We are unique and it is important to see that we are all beautiful in our own ways. By being open-minded we are able to see others for who they are and not by what they look like.

Art: For Art this week we prepared a special piece that we will be keeping for the Art Expo. The Squad made their very own home and drew the different rooms along with decorating their houses.

Afrikaans: For Afrikaans this week went over farm animals and the different sounds that certain letters make in Afrikaans in comparison to English such as the ‘v’ and ‘f’.

Cooking & Music: For cooking this week, we took the Squad to the kitchen, and they cracked eggs, whisked them, and also dipped their bread in order to make French toast which they had for snack. They love visiting the kitchen and seeing Chef Thembi, along with being responsible for making food. Well done! For Music this week, we have introduced two brand new songs which will be used for concert.

It has been a great week.

Hh – House

This week in the Curious Crew class , we enjoyed our daily theme discussions , we spoke about different kind of houses , and we also took the time to discuss the different rooms we get in our homes. We discussed as well what we do in each room and what we can find in those rooms too.

We emphasised that each house is different, in some way or another , and we explained that that’s okay. In our discussion we covered that everyone’s home will have something different to the friend next to us , and we emphasised that it’s not the size of the home it’s the amount of love that’s inside it. We focused quite a lot on our number letter and colour of the week too , practicing rhymes and counting everyday. We took the time and practiced counting and stopping at number 8

For Art this week , we made a very unique , and original Art piece using cereal boxes , cork painting and pictures from magazines . The class used the corks to stamp heads, and they had to do one for each member in their home. We then divided the board into four ( demonstrating rooms) one for kitchen , bedroom , bathroom and lounge. The class had to then page through magazines finding a picture for each room.

We also did a colouring in work sheet of a very messy bedroom. And that the Tidy Up Elf was an Elf that comes to all the messy bedrooms and he starts taking toys one by one and before we know it the tidy up elf has taken all the toys you didn’t want to clean up – so we used this to emphasis the importance of cleaning up your room and after yourself.

FUNFIT SPORTS

Hh – House

It’s been a jam-packed week with lots of fun activities and much excitement working on our 3D artwork!

We discussed houses, how each of our houses is different, and what kinds of rooms are found in our house. We also spoke about gardens and what kind of rooms could be found in the garden, such as a tool shed or garage.

We started off our week by colouring in the letter “h” and turned it into a house by adding green triangles for the roof and blue squares for the windows. While doing this activity we also discussed other words that begin with the “h” sound… Hungry, house, home, holiday, heart!

Next, we carried on with our integrated theme art project, last week we coloured in our family members and painted triangles with bubble wrap, this week we painted a square with some very cool sand-textured paint that we made by adding sand to our paint. The square has a rough texture that will be used for the walls of our house. We painted a big A3 cardboard with some fun painting techniques, our Hoppers sponge painted the sky and used a fork to paint grass, after they were dry the Hoppers pasted our squares and triangles to make the house and then stuck the family members to the picture, we added a door and windows to the house. These are looking amazing and will finish them with the final touches with next week’s theme “Pets”.

For our number this week, we counted up to 8 and counted 8 different objects in the classroom. The Hoppers then worked on the colouring and tracing skills by colouring in the number 8 and tracing over number 8. Well done Hoppers, you all did a great job! After the colouring and tracing, we spoke about spiders and how many legs spiders have. The Hoppers then had to count out 8 pieces of black cardboard strips and stick them to the number 8, creating a very cute spider!

On Wednesday for cooking the Hoppers got to help Chef Thembi in the kitchen. The chopped-up carrots and potatoes with a bit of help from Teacher Katy. We also spoke about knife safety and when wanting to cut something with a knife, they need help from Mommy or Daddy.

Happy Hoppers Yoga they worked very hard as it was a weight-bearing activity called the wheelbarrow walk. The benefits of this activity are core strengthening, helping with regulating proprioception, shoulder strength, and hand-eye coordination. Well done, Hoppers, they did very well!

It’s been a jam-packed week with lots of fun activities and much excitement working on our artwork!

Our theme next week is: My Pets

If you would like to bring your pet to school next week, please send us a private message so that we can arrange a day and a time slot!

Hh – House

This week we learned all about “My House”! It is a fun theme as children get to tell us all about their homes, their favourite rooms, all about what their room looks like, what they have inside it, and who lives in their homes. We spent a lot of time talking about what makes a house – walls, doors and windows, a roof. The walls are made with bricks and cement and then we paint the walls in nice colours that we like. Then we fill the house with furniture. We put a nice couch in the lounge to sit on and watch tv (and NOT to jump on or off of… haha). We set a table in the kitchen or the dining room to eat at. We have a bed in our bedrooms to sleep on and in the bathroom, there is a shower or a bath or maybe both, where we can wash our bodies after a long and happy day at school!

Then we had a chat about what makes a home… mommies and/or daddies (even if they don’t live in the same house) who love us, brothers and sisters to play with, food to eat together at night while we talk to each other about our days, pets to look after and fun to be had, a place to always feel safe and looked after and happy – this makes a house a home!

Any building can be used as a house and some houses are very, very big! They are called mansions. Other houses are very small and made with wood or tin or boards. Those are called shacks or cabins. Some houses have two levels, or even three! Some only have one. Some have lots and lots of rooms and windows and others only have one or two! This doesn’t matter. Any building can be a house but it is most important to fill that house with love and happiness and call it a home! Our very clever Bugs definitely understood this concept and we are very proud of them.

For art this week, we continued with our collaborative art piece from last week. You don’t get any details on that yet, you will have to wait until Art Expo to see them!

We also made “shape houses”, the Bugs got given a big square, small squares, rectangles, and triangles, and a “pre-built house” made by the teachers to reference off, and were asked to build their own house out of shapes. This was a completely independent activity, and other than putting the glue on the shapes, the teachers had absolutely nothing to do with it. It is so incredible to observe the spatial and observation skills of these Bugs, some of them knew that the big square is the building, and the tringle roof goes on top of that. The rectangle door goes in the middle and the small windows go on the front.

Just a few reminders…

Keep nails short, so we don’t have any scratching accidents!

Please, please, please, NO TOYS ARE ALLOWED AT SCHOOL!

No juice in water bottles. This encourages sharing and we want to keep “our own germs to ourselves”.

If you have any exciting pets at home, please PRIVATE MESSAGE Teacher Gemma and we can organise a day where your Bug could bring their pet in (for a few minutes in the morning) and show them off to the class next week.

This week’s secret question: If you could have a holiday home anywhere, where would it be?

Thank you for another lovely week of fun!

This has been a beautiful week playing and exploring with the Pups. When I look back at photos of the Pups from just a few weeks ago, I can see so many changes already! Our Pups are reaching more and more milestones. There are many little ones starting to talk more and understand more language concepts. Often during the day we hear new words pop out of these little ones mouths and myself and the Playful Pups assistants are so proud and happy to experience these very special moments!

It’s been an eventful busy week talking about our different homes and that we get different kinds of homes. I truly believe home is where the heart is, as the saying goes. This week’s art activity the Pups painted a ready cut out cardboard house and we used some ice-cream sticks to make a door and two windows. We however are not sending this activity home as we decided to keep it for out art expo.

As the Pups do most week’s they totally enjoyed yoga with teacher Nicole.

Coach Dave is busy practicing a few activities for our sports day on the 25th of March.

I hope you all have a lovely, relaxed weekend.

See you on Monday!
