We started the week off listening to each other’s fun weekend with broad discussions and we also introduced this week’s theme, Frogs and Ponds, Rivers, and Dams. We spoke about the life cycle of a frog, as well as where we find frogs and what we can find in dams and rivers.

Phonics and Writing

The Squad did a worksheet on the “in” and “ig” family where they had to match the picture to the word. To do so they had to try and spell out the sound of each letter. They then wrote sentences using those words while integrating their sight words using their “cats” head, tummy tail for correct positioning and spacing of the words. We added two new sight words, “have” and “went”.

Maths:

We continued to practise counting from 1-30 as well as count backwards from 30 – 1.  This week we completed a worksheet where you had to count each animal and write the correct number, followed by a graph using the same counting method. The Squad also did a worksheet where they counted in 2’s,5’s and 20’s, followed by filling in the missing number. They really impressed us with this, well done Squad!

Life Skills:

Focusing on our moral conscious theme: “do unto others” we discussed how we should treat others the way we would like to be treated and how our actions and the words we say can affect other people.

Art:

The Squad made a fun art piece where they had to colour the life cycle of a frog and assemble it together followed by drawings of Mystical Creatures, the Squad teamed up in groups of 5-6 and drew their own Mystical Creatures on a big piece of paper, this really brought out their creativity. We have also been working hard on Art Expo pieces.

Afrikaans:

For Afrikaans we did a recap of colours, numbers as well as body parts followed by a worksheet on numbers in afrikaans.

Do you know ... What is a "teenager" frog called?

We created such a beautiful card where the Squad stuck together and created their own bee because they “BEElieve in themselves”. We are also gearing up for our annual Art Expo so we have been putting all of our art together and completing the last few that we need to finish. This week the Squad used their light board to trace over their faces for a “wanted” poster – we cannot wait for you to see it!

The Squad have been counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We have been asking the children to write numbers 1-20 and identify numbers 11-20 (double digit). Focusing that the number “1” comes first. Also recognising that they pronounce “teen” and not “ty” as in “thirt(ty)”.
