This week , we really took the time to explain our theme thoroughly in our morning theme discussions, we spoke about the importance of Recycling , we also discussed what materials can be recycled and how they get divided into 4 different bins  we also sang our recycling song too. we also in our morning rings , counted , went over our colour of the week , number and shape too.

We practiced our concert songs and dances , and boy everyone is doing it so well.

For art this week , we did a very cute “Reduce , Reuse , Recycle colouring in work sheet. And this came out so cute as everyone tried their best to colour in so so well

We also did a crossing midline worksheet as well as a counting and cutting worksheet.

FUNFIT SPORTS
This week we had a super busy and funfilled lesson with Coach Trevor , this week we had to show coach Trevor just what we made of , we had to climb , skip , kick , hop and so much more !!!

 YOGA :

Curious Crew Yoga:
Today we focused on hand coordination and strengthening by using our wooden stick and rolling it between our hands (making a fire)
This basic exercise reduces feelings of stress and helps improve motor control and aids in motor memory for learning movements involved in fine motor tasks. Using both hands together in a coordinated movement is a skill required for writing and using scissors

In addition, our yogis had to use their core muscles aswell as their upper body strength to grab hold of the wooden stick by using the superman pose. Using their core and upper body, the yogis then had to grab hold of the stick and keep their tummy tight and body straight, and arms and elbows off the ground for 10 seconds. This exercise aids in strengthing the muscles around the spine as well as inner core.

BAKING :

For baking this week , we used recycled cups , and we made worms in dirt , using oreos for the soil and gummy worms for the earth worms , the class loved this idea and were all looking so forward to enjoying their little snack.

FAREWELL TO DAMON

Today we say goodbye to our very special Damon , as him and his family embark on their new adventure in Australia, we wish them the best of luck with the journeys that lay ahead , we pray you have a safe flight and that you and your family get settled soon.

We are going to miss Damon’s cute smile , Dinosaur stories , and cute head of curls , he will always have a special place in the Curious Crew class.*

Overall it was a busy week in the curious crew class.

May everyone have a blessed weekend.

Moral conscious theme: Responsibilities: For our moral conscious this week we explained to the Squad the importance of putting away their belongings as well as looking after them. We also explained that they need to take accountability for their actions as well as take class jobs and duties seriously.

Writing and Phonics: This week Squad worked hard on remembering their sight words and received three new sight words for this week “to”, and “do” and “the”. The children then did a worksheet on the “am” family where they had to rewrite the words until the end of line followed by sentences using the “am” family words. They have really impressed us with their handwriting which is improving every week! Great work!

Mathematics: The children practiced counting to 20 and back as well as counted in 2’s. They then completed a fun worksheet on ordinal numbers. They had to circle the correct insect, such as circle the “third” butterfly. They understood this concept well, we are so proud!

Creative Art: We worked together in groups to make beautiful abstract art pieces using paint and recycled materials, we cant wait for you to see these at Art Expo!

Music and Cooking: On Tuesday for Music, Teacher Katy came and sang concert songs with the Squad, she taught them how to sing in tune and keep the beat.

Afrikaans: For Afrikaans the Squad practiced counting to 20 in afrikaans as well as body parts and colours in afrikaans. They then completed a comprehension on “Ben se Hond”, we read the lovely story together and then answered the questions.

FunFit Sport: The Squad played soccer at FunFit sports, they dribbled between the cones, aiming for the target using the inside of their feet and scoring, they had so much fun!

We are completing assessments over the next week; please could we ask that your child attends school every day.

Being an eco-friendly school, this is a theme that we are very passionate about. We had a lot of serious theme discussions this week, and it warms our hearts to see our young Hoppers so enthusiastic about preserving our planet. Their passion really showed in their artwork!

For our art this week, we did a class piece. We just loved how this came out. We found a big piece of recycled wood and then painted it. We then found red bottle lids to create a heart. The hoppers each had a turn to choose a different piece of recycled material, and then we glued it to the wood in the heart. (All the recycled materials represent plastic, paper, tin, and glass).  Each child got to do their handprint, and each handprint was named and stuck to our recycled masterpiece. We will be keeping this piece for the Art Expo, so all the children that were absent this week will still have a chance to add their handprints.

The hoppers worked on their ball skills this week at Fun Fit Sport with Coach Trevor. They dribbled a ball in and out of cones with enthusiasm and skill. The hoppers did an amazing job and seemed to enjoy the activity. Coach Trevor was very proud of them. It was a great session, and everyone had a great time.

At cooking, our Hoppers got to watch an educational video that explained to them what compost is and how we make it; after watching the video, we had a little discussion about how and why compost is good for our plants. We explained to them that our plants also need veggies to help them grow big and strong!

Our Hoppers are hard and work learning concert songs and are all doing well with learning the words. We are super proud of them! Thank you to those that have already brought concert clothes. Just a reminder for those who haven’t yet, we would like to have them in by mid-term break, please – 23 June.

We really hope to have all our Hoppers back Monday morning, hope all our sick Hoppers feel better over the weekend. Remember to take vitamins and keep warm!

It has been a great week filled with fun and creativity!

Have a safe and lovely weekend.

Our theme next week is: Father’s Day and Sport

“Stamp, Stamp Clap! (X4)

We love animals, plants and birds! We love snails and slugs!

Large and small, we love them all! And we never ever step on bugs!

Because… we’re the children of Ecokids

We love nature, the sun and the trees! The rain that helps plants grow!

Paper, Plastic, Glass and tin our recycling rules we know!

Because… we’re the children of Ecokids”

What you have just read is our school song. It is such a fun song to sing and really shows everything that we as a school stand for.

What an informative and exciting week we have had! We learned all about recycling and the different materials we use to recycle. We got to feel glass bottles, plastic, paper and tin and see different variations of products made from these materials. Bags, bottles, lids and plugs made from plastic. Toilet paper, toilet rolls and the books we read made from paper. Bottles, windows, bowls made of glass and formula tins, food tins, coldrink cans and the container where all this cool stuff is kept made from tin/metal.

Art this week was slightly challenging as most of our art we send home is recycled art. So we thought, what could be better for recycled art then… recyclable material sculptures!!! We used all bits and bobs that have been sent in by students and parents over the years to create these amazing sculptures. The Bugs got to select from a large quantity of recyclable materials that we had poked holes in, and thread them onto a stick stuck on an egg carton base. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to see these beautiful creations just yet… You’re going to have to wait for Art Expo!

Our favorite songs for the week was “Reduce, reuse, recycle”

“Reduce, reuse, recycle, recycle, recycle.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, it’s easy to do.

‘Cos your trash and my trash make up way too much trash.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, it’s easy to do!”

Please keep in mind the beautiful words of Dr. Seuss.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to change, it’s not.”

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay warm!

Next week’s theme:

Father’s Day and Sports

Next week’s show and tell (on Thursday):

Everyone can bring something that belongs to Dad, to show off our awesome EcoDads!

Rr- Recycling

What an important theme this is to all of us at EcoKids Preschool!  This is what we are all about!  This is who we are!  We had a wonderful and informative week, learning all about recycling and reusing instead of just throwing things away.  We learnt an awesome new song:

“Reduce, reuse, recycle

Recycle, Recycle,

Reduce, reuse, recycle,

It’s easy to do!

Coz your trash and my trash

Make up way too much trash!

Reduce, reuse, recycle

It’s easy to do!”

And our Pups have been heard singing it all week!  We learnt that there are four main types of things that are recycled.  Paper, plastic, glass and tins.  And, a lot of the rubbish that we don’t recycle lands up in the oceans where it hurts sea creatures and pollutes the water!

We chatted about all the art that we do and the children saw that every week, we use recycled materials to make our beautiful art pieces!  We took a walk to the recycling station and saw the different containers and the BIG, BIG truck that comes to fetch the recycling when we have filled all the bins!

We played lots of sorting games, too, making sure the children knew which dustbin in our classroom was the right one for the paper or tin or plastic we gave them.  We done, Pups!

For art this week the Pups and teachers worked together. We got them to sprinkle grated wax crayon on wax paper, we then took old plastic bags that say RECYCLE and we cut them out so they could go in the middle of the wax paper with the wax crayons. Teacher Thandy  and Teacher Pearl then took an iron and ironed the wax paper and it created this stunning mix of colours which we have placed on formula tins creating an upcycled “dustbin“ for your bread plastics and bread tags to go in. Once you and your Pup/Pup’s fill the tin, please bring it to school so that we can use them for our nappy changing stations for our little ones – we are always REDUCING, REUSING, AND RECYCLING!

We explored a lot this week with all sorts of recycling materials and let the Pups have some free range and choices to make their own creations. This was so interesting to see all the different outcomes

We are also in process of doing reports so you can read all about your precious Pups when we break-up.

Another amazing event that happened this week is that two more Pups joined our class, which is so wonderful!

Please have a wonderful and blessed weekend.

Keep warm! Take your vitamins and extra vitamin C!
