Dd – Dinosaurs

Over the past two weeks, our theme has been dinosaurs, and wow, what an exciting adventure it has been! The Busy Bugs had an absolutely fantastic time learning all about these incredible prehistoric creatures.

During ring time, we spoke about different types of dinosaurs and shared lots of interesting facts about each one. We learned about the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex), the gentle Brontosaurus, and the strong Triceratops. The Bugs were so engaged and could confidently answer many of the questions being asked. They have remembered so many fun facts, so please ask them at home what they know about these amazing dinosaurs—I am sure they will be excited to tell you everything they have learned!

Our art activities over the past two weeks were filled with creativity and lots of messy fun. We made adorable dinosaur footprints by dipping toy dinosaurs into paint and letting them “walk” across the paper. This was definitely a class favourite! The Bugs also created their very own paper plate dinosaurs, where they could let their imaginations run wild by choosing and mixing any colours they liked. Each dinosaur turned out unique and absolutely beautiful.

We also spent time practising our colouring skills by working on colouring neatly inside the lines. The Bugs did an amazing job and have shown wonderful improvement in their pencil control and concentration. Over the past two weeks, we also worked very hard on developing our cutting skills, and it has been wonderful to see how much confidence the Bugs are gaining with using scissors. We also enjoyed some fun playdough activities, which helped strengthen the little muscles in their hands while encouraging creativity and imaginative play.

One of the most exciting sensory activities was our dinosaur excavation! We buried toy dinosaurs in the sandpit, and the Bugs became little paleontologists, carefully searching for them and using paintbrushes to gently brush away the sand. They absolutely loved discovering each hidden dinosaur and were so proud of their finds.

Our practical activities were just as much fun! We used our imaginations and pretended to be giant dinosaurs, stomping around the playground and letting out the biggest, loudest ROOOAAARRRRS! The laughter and excitement filled the classroom, making it such a memorable experience. We also enjoyed moving like different dinosaurs, pretending to be tall Brontosauruses reaching for leaves, fast T-Rexes chasing their friends, and strong Triceratopses charging through the jungle.

For our maths activity, each of the Bugs was given a collection of coloured cubes. They had to listen carefully to instructions and collect the correct number of cubes in the correct colours. They all did an amazing job by following directions so well and showed fantastic listening and counting skills.

At FunFit Sports this week, the Bugs had so much fun playing cricket with Coach Trevor. They loved learning some basic cricket skills and enjoyed cheering one another on while taking turns.

During yoga this week, our theme was Dinosaur Yoga. We began with dinosaur-inspired stretches and warm-ups before completing a basic yoga sequence of six poses. We also enjoyed the fun song “Do Yoga Like a Dinosaur,” which had everyone moving and smiling. The poses we practised included Aeroplane, Crescent Moon, Child’s Pose, Snake, and Lion Breath. We finished our session with some quiet time, relaxing our bodies and minds while practising calming breathing techniques.

What a wonderful two weeks of learning, creating, exploring, and using our imaginations! We are so proud of all our Busy Bugs for their enthusiasm, participation, and willingness to try every activity. We can’t wait to see what exciting adventures our next theme will bring!

I hope you enjoy using this in your newsletter! It keeps the same warm, parent-friendly style as your previous updates while including all the activities from the past two weeks.

Keep warm!

Art, we had a wonderful messy play activity where the Bugs painted a fire underneath a ziplock bag, using their tiny fingers to blend the colours together. We then went on a nature walk to collect pieces of bark, which we glued onto our artwork to make our fires look warm and cosy.
