Term 3. Week 1
Welcome back to Term 3 Parents and HAPPY Spring, this warm weather and to see all the new green life is so lovely!
We have had a lovely full week in the Curious Crew class. We started off our week with a colour by numbers Spring worksheet. The Crew have truly impressed us with how well they ‘read’ their numbers and colours as well as the beautiful colouring in they did. They have grown and matured so much over this holiday.
On our first day back we went on a nature walk to collect some goodies for a pretty Spring ornament, which we will be saving for the art expo (20th of October-Save the date!) but it will be worth the wait!
We will be concentrating harder than ever on the alphabet this term as well as getting the Crew to write their names on their own. We were super impressed with the name writing activity we did, not only are the Crew getting better with tracing over their names but when they write it on their own, they are showing great improvement.
For numeracy this week, the Crew did a symmetry worksheet where they had to draw the other side of a tree and then they were instructed to draw 10 apples on their tree. It was an interesting activity which challenged them. Great work Crew!
We did a super cool activity on the carpet. The kiddies had their white boards in one hand and a marker in the other. I asked the Crew to draw shapes, numbers 1-10 and to write their names. They loved this activity and did so well!
Letter Challenge is still underway, don’t give up now! We just have a couple of weeks left!
AND this weekend we introduced the PUZZLE CHALLENGE! All details will be sent on the Curious Crew group. It’s exciting and fun!
Gerry is still doing his rounds in the Curious Crew class, let us know if there are any special weekends you would like Gerry.
Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper
Another successful week in the Curious Crew class! This week we have been super busy with a few different projects and activities. We are getting creative as we prepare for our annual Art Expo, such excitement! As well as working on some very important skills.
Ringtime is one of my favourite class activities! So much learning is done during ringtime and doing it all together encourages everyone to listen as well as learn from each other. This week we introduced counting in 2’s (from 2-10) and we counted in odd numbers (from1-9). Using a number chart, pointing to the numbers we grasped these new concepts. Please try this at home and see how well your child does.
We did quite a complex worksheet this week that had a few different steps for the Crew to follow as well as different skill sets used to complete this task. It makes me so proud to see how far these little people have come since the beginning of the year. They were able to sit for the duration of the activity without getting tired AND the outcome was great! I’m such a proud teacher!
Each week we will be completing fun activities to help the Crew learn their letters. This week during ringtime we went around in the circle and each child has to tell us what the first letter of their name was, almost every child got this correct. YAY! Another fun activity we did: Holding up an alphabet chart, I called up the Crew one by one and I chose a random letter for them to recognise, this was a little more difficult but I was so happy to see the confidence each Crew member had when coming up and finding the letter.
This will be the last week our Letter Challenge books will go out. We have finally come to the end of our fun learning Letter Challenge exercises. Please continue with fun games and talking to your child about letters in general conversation. The best kind of learning is incidental learning. Get creative with this parents.
We apologise for no art for another week but with Art Expo around the corner, we want to really put on a show with many displays of their beautiful artwork.
Lately we have been struggling with some rough play and the children not keeping their hands to themselves. The children know that our number one rule in the class is ‘Keep your hands to yourself!’ If you could please reiterate this at home, especially before school. It just helps to avoid unnecessary fights and unhappy kids.
Congratulations on your first week of the puzzle challenge!! Keep going! Once the kids see a climbing graph it motivates them to get out those puzzles and build. With this little challenge it is so interesting to see what it brings out, some thrive to win and become quite competitive where others refuse point blank to touch a puzzle. All the best parents and don’t forget to update puzzle pieces on the Google Doc.
