Welcome back to Term 3 parents and HAPPY Spring, this warm weather is so lovely and to see all the new green life!
We have had a lovely short week in the Curious Crew class. We started off our week with a colour in Spring worksheet. The Crew display such growth with their work after the August holiday. They sit working carefully not rushing through their work.
In the spirit of Spring we needed to take advantage of all the bright colours that come with Spring. We decided that a pretty Spring flower still life painting would be a great activity as our first art piece for the 3rd term. It was beautiful to see how the Crew used lots of different colours and took their time to create these beautiful masterpieces.
We will be concentrating harder than ever on the alphabet this term as well as getting the Crew to writing their name on their own. We were super impressed with the name writing activity we did, not only are they getting better with tracing over their names but when they write it on their own, they are showing great improvement.
At FunFit Sports this week the Crew got to get back into the swing of things with their ball, hand eye-coordination, with some cricket practice! The Crew are great sportsmans and love to cheer each other on when they up there ready to bat! A lovely sports session as always, thank you Coach Trevor.
Yoga was all about team work! The Crew started off with some Yoga stretches, focusing on core strength and hamstrings. The Crew then did some partner poses; tree, boat and table top. This made the Crew giggle and smile from ear to ear! Definitely a great Yoga session for the beginning of the 3rd Term. Thank you teacher Yoga!
Show and tell this week was pretty and colourful as the Crew brought bunches of flowers to show off to the class! There are some lovely pictures in the blog this week of the Crews Show and Tell. Enjoy.
Gerry is still doing his rounds in the Curious Crew class, let us know if there are any special weekends you would like Gerry.
Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper
This week we kicked off our Puzzle Challenge! I can’t wait to see the graph grow and who will be the reigning champion at the end of this challenge. It is also interest to see who has a competitive streak and how this challenge will bring that out. Let’s get building Crew! Don’t forget that you are more than welcome to bring puzzles from home to swop out with the puzzles in reception, they will be returned once puzzle challenge is over. Don’t forget to record the puzzles built on the Google document so we can keep track of the number of pieces being built.
Keeping in the spirit of Spring we decided to make beautiful sun catches. The Crew got to colour in their little suns with some bright pastel crayons and the pick pieces of coloured cellophane to go into the middle which we then laminated. And just WOW they look amazing. This piece of art is definitely one to treasure for years to come.
We did a challenging perceptual worksheet where the Crew had to colour in different halves of leaves. Once they had completed that, they were then tasked to cut them out, put together to 2 matching halves and then stick them onto a piece of paper.
We also decided to do some name writing again this week. Getting the Crew to practice on there writing/fine motor skills is very important in getting them ready for their reception year. Please practice at home as much as you can as well. And on that note, when practicing name writing at home please use the correct letter formation. Only the first Letter is a capital and then the rest are in low case letters.
We also did a tracing worksheet to go with those very important fine motor skills.
For cooking this week we did worms in the soil. During our morning ringtime sessions we spoke about how there are different layers of soil and which bugs live in the different layers of soil. Combining cooking and ringtime we made this concept more concert when putting together of cooking. Using crushed biscuits as the base with some sour worms and then some more cruched biscuits to cover the worms and then the sprinkled on some bronze sprinkles to add some ‘leaves’ to their ‘topsoil’. They enjoyed their cooking in class the same day.
At FunFit Sports this week the Crew enjoyed a game of T-ball, they used a pool noodle which is nice and light for them to swing but boy could they hit those balls far! It was super impressive.
The Crew were so happy to see Teacher Mo again this week after the holidays and what was the first thing they requested…rock music LOL. Teacher Mo had to give them what they requested before he could carry on with the lesson. So far the Crew have been introduced to, the blues, rock, jazz and classical music genres. Keep up your magical teachings Teacher Mo.
