LETTER
Tt – Trees
This week we began with ring time discussions about trees and all the wonderful things they give us such as fruit, nuts, flowers and seeds. We also continued working on our 3D shapes and carried on with our counting, pushing ourselves all the way to 50.
During one of our ring times we played a fun letter recognition game where I placed letters of the alphabet on the mat and called out a letter for the Crew to find. Each time we play they get quicker and more confident, and it is amazing to see how much progress they are making.
Monday’s FunFit Sport was a highlight with Coach Trevor. The Crew could not wait to see him again and they had so much fun playing cricket together. There was plenty of cheering and encouragement as they took turns.
Keeping with the theme of trees and wood, the children made the sweetest pinecone hedgehogs. They coloured in little hedgehog faces and then decorated their pinecones with treasures they collected on a nature walk. These turned out beautifully. We will be keeping these for our upcoming art expo.
Cooking time was especially interesting this week as we explored the different methods of preparing food and the importance of staying safe around hot things in the kitchen. We spoke about boiling, simmering, steaming, smoking, frying, baking, grilling and roasting. The Crew loved sharing how they cook at home and comparing their answers.
We also played a quick-thinking game where the Crew named as many brown objects as they could and then came up with words starting with the letter “t.” They are becoming more attentive to the sounds at the start of words and it is wonderful to see their listening skills growing.
To explore our 3D shape of the week, the kiddies decorated their own cones by drawing outlines on them and then colouring them in. Alongside this, we also practiced our name writing. Developing these writing and fine motor skills is so important, so I encourage you to continue practicing at home. Please remember when helping your child to write their name that only the first letter is capital and the rest are lower case.
Later in the week we completed some workbook activities focusing on the letter “t.” The Crew traced the letter and drew four objects starting with “t.” During ring time we extended our discussions by learning about the life cycle of a tree, how paper is made, why trees are so important and even where cinnamon comes from.
Music with Teacher Tegan was lively as we worked with tambourines to practice beats. The Crew had to listen carefully to follow the instructions and keep the correct rhythm. We also continued with our Jolly Phonics and letter sounds song which they are really enjoying.
Mind Ninjas with Teacher Avril was another highlight. The Crew started with tapping and clapping to help focus their minds before moving into wiggling activities to shake away any worries. They learned about crossing the midline and how this helps our brains and bodies work together. The children practiced slowing down, being gentle and peaceful to help regulate their big emotions.
Yoga this week was all about balance as we moved through a sequence of poses. We began with Mountain, then flowed into Tree, Aeroplane, Peacock, and Prayer before reversing the sequence back to Mountain. Balancing on one leg was a challenge, but the Crew tried their best and did so well. We ended with calming breathwork and relaxation – From Teacher Nicole
Next week we are very excited to begin our Puzzle Challenge and cannot wait to see how the Crew enjoy this new step in their learning journey. Have a wonderful weekend moms and dads.
