Last week was filled with so much fun! We learnt all about keeping healthy and hygienic.

Writing and Phonics: Last week we reiterated the previous letters but also introduced three brand new letters of the alphabet – ‘’Gg’’, ‘’Hh’’ and ‘’Ii’’. We practiced writing these letters on our white boards first and then we moved onto our handwriting skills in our lined books. The Smart Squad are impressing us each week with their handwriting skills! We added two new sight words this week, ‘’in’’ and ‘’here’’ – which formed our first sentence ‘’look at me in here’’. The children were beyond chuffed that they could read a whole sentence! Congratulations Squad! We made ‘’look’’ glasses and then the children found and circled their sight words! Lastly, they wrote the sentence in their lined books.

Maths: In Maths we worked through basic addition concepts and focused on adding more and more objects. We then had our very own quilt to make using our shape of the week, a triangle! The Squad had to maneuver their triangles into the squares to form their quilt. We also emphasised the colour of the week by cutting out green triangles.

Life Skills: The concept of an apology is always a lovely life skill to learn; the Squad have been practising apologising to those that we may hurt. As teachers, we may sometimes forget to do something and then we demonstrate to the children that we too can apologise. We used different scenarios and worked through ways that we might need to apologise to others.

Art: During ring-time Teacher Amber showed the children how quickly germs spread. She used glitter and the Squad absolutely adored seeing how glitter (germs) spread from their hands to their friends’ arms when they hug each other or how the glitter sprinkles all over when someone sneezes! After this explanation the children created their very own germ monsters using brown paper bags and other bits and bobs! This art activity will be kept for the art expo – we cannot wait for you to see their beautiful and ‘scary’ germ monsters!

 It was an awesome week!

The Crew loved singing our theme song!

Brush, brush, brush your teeth. Brush them every day!

We put toothpaste on our brush to help stop tooth decay!

Floss, floss, floss your teeth. Floss them every day!

Using the string between the teeth, helps keep plaque away!

Clean, clean, clean your teeth. Clean them every day!

Your teeth will sparkle for many years, in the most beautiful way!

Last week we had so much fun! We started off the week by discussing the importance of health and hygiene. We demonstrated to the children how far a sneeze can travel if you don’t cover your mouth. We also did an experiment with three pieces of bread. One piece of bread that wasn’t touched by anyone, one piece of bread that was touched by everyone and one piece of bread that we sprayed with sanitizer. We observed how the touched piece of bread full of germs grew the most mould on it.

The first group of Crew had lots of fun making their very own soap with teacher Clarissa while the others worked on their ‘I brushed my teeth!’ worksheet which they completed so well!

One of our favourite activities this week was creating a germ! The children had so much fun creating it with strips of paper and glue. The little germs were all so cute!

We did various other activities that just showed us teachers how clever these children are! We are super proud of how they are absorbing everything we are teaching them!

Below are two of the poems we did last week, please repeat them at home to see how much of it your clever little ones know! We are sure they will actually be surprised if they hear you saying them too!

This week’s theme: Valentine’s Day and Emotions.

Have a wonderful week!

Dear Hopper Parents

We had such a jam-packed week learning about Health and Hygiene and doing such fun activities!

Our first activity focused on our Number and Shape of the week. The Hoppers finger painted green dots around 3 triangles. Before painting, we counted the triangles and practiced number recognition.

Our second activity was a progressive artwork. We started off by “bubble blowing” blue paint onto our cardboard to give it a soapy background effect. Next we stamped blue handprints onto the cardboard, which resulted in the perfect handwashing activity! Our artwork’s topic was “Don’t forget to wash the germs away.” We pretended that the paint was germs which needed to be washed away and we painted “germs” on the handprints and glued on a sponge and styrofoam balls as bubbles.

Our last activity for the week focused on our letter and colour of the week.

Before hand we read two stories, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘The Crunching Munching Caterpillar’. Both these stories focus on healthy and unhealthy eating, as well as emphasising “C” for Caterpillar. After the stories we jumped straight into our activity where the kiddies stuck green objects onto their C letter. This fine motor activity included crumpling tissue paper into balls.

Our theme this week is: My Emotions and Valentine’s Day

We hope that you have a lovely week!

Little Scientists!

On Wednesday during Ring Time, we did a germ experiment to convey the importance of washing hands!

We poured pepper on the surface of water and then put dishwashing liquid on the tip of an earbud. The pepper represented germs. Once the earbud was placed in the water, the soap spread the water and pepper, showing the Hoppers that soap chases away the germs!

The Hoppers really enjoyed this experiment!

What a clean, healthy week we had last week. We learnt all about the different ways to stay healthy and hygienic! Covering your mouth when you sneeze and cough (but not with your hand, with the inside of your elbow instead), how to wash our hands properly after playing outside and going to the toilet, how to properly your body properly in the bath and shower and the most fun activity this week… brushing our teeth! Our Bugs loved the practical, hands on lessons we had this week and are definitely a healthy bunch of kids!

We sang lots of health and hygiene songs and performed all the actions to them, and we also carried out all of the ways to stay clean. We washed our hands with soap and water every day before snack and lunch, we practiced brushing our hair in the mornings and of course on Thursday, we brushed our teeth after snack! This was a HUGE hit and the Bugs absolutely loved it! We are very proud to say that most of our Bugs can brush their teeth by themselves, some even taking it to the next level and brushing their tongues as well!

For art this week, we made a few things:

  1. We used paint blowing technique to create awesome colourful germs. We dripped blobs of paint onto our page, then used our own little straws to blow the paint all over (with a little help from Teacher Gemma).
  2. We used playdough, pipe cleaners and googly eyes to create a Reggio Emilia germ. The Bugs had so much fun squishing, poking and decorating these germs!

We hope you all have a lovely week!

Last week our theme was Health and Hygiene.

We spoke about eating healthy food and what it means to be healthy. We took a look at a few healthy veggies that we found in the kitchen. We had fun washing our hands, brushing our hair and we did a gorgeous painting with toothbrushes!

Our toothbrush painting was a huge success and we are happy to say that the children did it 100% on their own. The pictures are all so different and beautiful – just how we love our art to be! Some children love to mix colours, others keep the colours very separate. Some prefer only 2 or 3 colours while others wanted all of them! Amazing to see their creative processes.

We learnt about the concept of an apology and I am happy to see that all of our children say sorry with no problem if they need to. This is wonderful and makes classroom life a lot more pleasant and happy!

Our last experiment was glitter germs! We used this experiment to show the children that even though you can see the glitter, there are lots of germs on hands and skin that you can’t see! They have been told to wash their hands until they can’t see any more glitter.

I have loved spending time with your little busy bodies.  Enjoy looking at all the photos from the week!

Another reminder to label as much as you possibly can.

This week’s Theme: My Emotions; Valentine’s Day.

We are so proud of our Pups!

The children are really settling in now and are becoming much more confident in the classroom space!

It is amazing how quickly they have learnt their new daily routine and have adjusted their little schedules to fit in a more demanding day!
